Default Stolen Visa At Front Desk

Hey,

A warning to all going to Oasis. I used my visa only one time when in Cancun to pay my bill for my lock box at the front desk when I left the hotel the rest of the time it was locked in the lock box in the room.

When I got home to Canada I had 1500.00 USD in random cash advance charges from all over mexico in the 3 days following my return home and I had to cancel my Visa.

The little guy at the front desk is the only person that had his hands on my visa so I pretty conviced it was him.

BE WARNED

Has anyone stayed at the Oasis Cancun recently. We are getting very nervous. We read some reviews on the Grand Oasis Cancun before booking and realized later that we're staying at the Oasis Cancun. We are a group of 6 in the 60+ age group. We don't expect luxury, but the reviews about mold, bugs, uncleanliness, are making us nervous. How can such a hotel be rated 4 star? Anyway, just wondered if anyone had been there lately. Thanks

Regards,
Karen

Hey there....3 of us girls heading down to the Oasis Cancun Feb 10 -17...is there much for activity at this time of the year? Will Cancun be busy at all? Also, just a question for those that have stayed there...what was your experience with the ala cartes and reso's???

Thanks

Default Oasis vs Grand Oasis

Hey there, I got a group of 6-8 people looking to stay at either the Oasis or Grand Oasis resort during Spring Break. I am trying to figure out if there is a real difference in the two. We want to be in the action, which is apparently at the Oasis. But I have heard that people staying at the Oasis has limited bar/restaurant/club access that the GA can. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Apparently a couple of the bars are exclusive to the Grand (blck bracelet) and the Oasis side (purple bracelet) can only use 6 of the 10 restaurants. It's no big deal if people at the Grand stick to their exclusive restaurants but if you have 1000 rooms (usually at least 2 per room) all using 6 restaurants, it may result in some long waits.

as I responded in a different part of these forums, I would not stay at the Grand Oasis again, in my life. it took them 3 hours to find us a room, and if we had known why beforehand, we would have run to the nearest hotel there. their card keys were not working, so we saw many people coming to the check-in place, asking for a different room. that shoudl have been it. when we finally got our room, they could not tell us exactly where it was located!! the people that work there did not help us at all to get to our room, and our luggage arrived three hours later!! and only after we complained many times to the concierge.
first thing we notice, the room is hot and humid. SECOND WARNING. the A/C was not working. we called the concierge again, and they sort of laughed at us, telling us that it was a hotel-wide problem, and that it would be resolved in less than 30 minutes.
so we went to dinner, and stayed a couple of hours walking around the hotel, getting to know it better.
we got back to our room around 1 AM, and the A/C was still not working. they said they were still working on it. so we had to sleep with our windows open, and the A/C on, in the hopes that it would work.
it NEVER did.

How do you ensure you don't get put it phase one (thats the worst building, right??) My friend and I are both 24 years old, been out of college for 3 years (aka we are not on spring break, just going for a vacation)... and do they treat non college kids any better? We look young but we can make it clear we're not college kids if that helps... the bad reviews are starting to worry me!

You can request Phase II upon arrival if they placed you in Phase I. Trust me, don't believe everything you read on Trip Advisor. It is not as bad as people make it seem. Phase I is better anyways trust me..

Okay well, I just want to request whichever will have the better rooms... so I would assume Phase II. Although I hear the plumbing and AC conditions are bad all across the board anyways...

ahh well, should be a blast no matter what! Thanks for responding

I think it's $100 refundable or $25 non-refundable deposit per person. I don't think you can avoid it if you're under 27, even if you're not a student anymore. If you manage to convince them, please let me know how you did it

EDIT: Btw, does anyone know how the laundry service works in Oasis and how much it costs? We'll be coming in directly from jungle training so some of our clothes will need a good wash(or two ) - would we be better off finding a cleaning service downtown? Thanks!

If you ever will visit this place
say "hola" to Sultan Ricardo,
you can ask him anything ,
about Cancun , the Grand Oasis,
and he will give you the answer
with the smile.
However, never, ever ask him about
vacation of Leonardito.
This info you can find right here :

Although I am not going to the Oasis until September, I would appreciate your reviews of the holiday and more importantly, the hotel, when you return!

What are the best things to do around this hotel during the day? Besides just getting wasted, haha.

There are 2 phases, I and II, and then there is the GRAND oasis which is located in the middle of the property. Basically one side is more party than the other, but that doesn't stop you from visiting either phase. This usually only applies during spring break, so I wouldn't worry too much. August is a great time to go, have a blast!

Thanks, man! I appreciate the reply. I also had a question about the mini bar. We aren't staying at the grand, so do we even get a mini bar or fridge? I read that Oasis guests don't even get bottled water. Also, I have read a few posts about extra, unecessary expenses being charged to guests' credit cards without them knowing. Has anybody here had a problem with that? Seems like the place might be a little shady which is worrying me. Thanks in advance!
