![]() You can see the Riu Cancun from almost anywhere in Cancun, it is HUGE. Some of the hotels on the outside have chipped paint and look a little run down and are still rated 4 star hotels. The Riu Cancun is in top notch condition. The lobby is goregous and well air conditioned. They give you tasty fruit juice before taking you to your room. The front desk speaks excellent english and are extremley helpfull. We had trouble dialing the US from our room and they let us call for free from the lobby. But beware it is 3.00 per minute to make long distance phone calls and it adds up quick. The rooms were very nice. The beds were kind of hard, but the pillows were really soft and with the sound of the ocean I had no trouble falling asleep. The bathroom is huge and has a shower cap, shampoo, blow dryer and our room also had a ironing board. Their are ceiling fans above the bed which really help when you have a sunburn. The mini bar was restocked every day with huge bottles of water, 7 up, bottled pepsi and pepsi lite and of course Corona. Their were four types of alcohol in the liquor dispenser. THEY HAD CUERVO 1800 now thats quality. I was too scared and didn't hit the 1800 till the last night. The balcony was my favorite part of the room!!!! ![]() Here is another view ![]() The food at the Riu was very good. The buffet did get repetitive but there were always way too many choices which can be hard for indecisive people. Here is our lunch. ![]() We also tried Kawachi which was the Japanese restaurant. The food was pretty good and the sushi was excellent. This was my first time to try sushi. They also have a brazillan restaurant but we never made reservations but heard it was good. The pools were great they have a quiet pool which I checked out once it was very nice but too quiet. They have an activity pool and we played water volleyball and my brother got in on the belly smacker contest. They have lounge chairs in the pool that are very refreshing to lay out in. Our favorite was the pool bar. ![]() You can take artistic photos at the pool bar ![]() For those that like to people watch their are lots of topless sunbathers on the beach and around the pool. One of the infinity pools, you can see Isla Mujeres very well from this pool. ![]() ![]() This is Ivan at La Punta bar making me a rose. The staff here are excellent they make you feel very welcome. I loved everything about this hotel. The food, pools, entertainment, staff, apperance and rooms were the best. I want to go back so bad!!!!!!

Just got back a few days ago. I enjoyed the Riu Cancun, definitely worth the price. A few observations...the all inclusive is a great deal, especially with the corona, tequila, soda, etc in the room available at all times. The food is very bland, with the exception of the restaurants. Problem is, getting reservations for the restaurants entails you getting up EARLY! The "shows" they have at "La Mision" bar are extremely cheesy, like a Spanish language variety show. However, all in all, the hotel is nice, and would recommend it.

I hope that this will help other travelers... I returned from the RIU Cancun on 2/12/06 and I have to say that it was incredible, probably the best place you can go to in Cancun right now. My friend and I travelled up the hotel zone thinking "Oh my God, I hope our hotel isn't like these." We arrived at the RIU and discovered that we were at one of the best hotels Cancun had to offer. The beaches were amazing and the food was incredible... I have traveled to Mexico three times before and have usually gone back about 10 pounds lighter, but the RIU had the best food and I actually ATE in Mexico!!!! That is almost unheard of! I loved it and I would recommend this place to anyone... Everyone says that the beds are hard as can be, but I can tell you that on my first night there I slept like a baby and was in bed by ten o'clock. Could have been cause I was drunk, but I never had a neck cramp the entire trip. I will definetely go back, and if you are a spring breaker this is absolutely worth the money. I'm no hotel critic, but unless you are, you will love it! Have fun and be safe, Jenni

| There is access to the public beach close by...but security still walks up and down. I had an encounter with security that wasn't the prettiest ![]() The security in the hotel were strict about guests as well. They wanted to charge a day's fee if you took someone back. I think it was 100US they asked for if I remember correctly.

I have no idea what kind of outlets where used. It is a new hotel though so you would think that they would make them compatible to us and europe if that is possible.

We are arriving early (before noon) and will need a spot to lock up valuables while we wait for our room. Is there a hospitality room with lockers? If not what do you recommend?

Yes they will hold your luggage for you. Just bring your swimsuit in your carry on or wear it under your clothes. Its a lot easier that way.

We also have a Riu dedicated forum over at RiuChat.info, heres the link: http://www.riuchat.info/forum/index.php It is a little quiet on posts but there are at least 50 people a day visiting, so I guess they just need something to talk about!

I stopped in to check this place out, easy to walk in during the middle of the day. The lobby looked a little old fashioned and I found there was an older crowd (40's). I went out back to see how much beach they had, and there wasn't much (this might have changed by now). Also, it's not ocean side so I found it didn't compare to the Grand Oasis (where I was staying). The pools were a lot smaller, but this made it more intimate with all the other people there. My friend stayed there 2 weeks after I passed through and was very satisfied with it, but I doubt I would stay there. The pictures up top are from 2004 and when I was no beach in comparison to what's in the pictures. The palm trees in the pictures are gone and the ocean starts before the palm trees now.
