My husband and I will be staying here April 27-May 1. We switched from Cancun Palace since we didn't like the minimalistic decor. Has anyone stayed here recently or will be staying? Thanks!!

Meg,

We will be there the 7th of May. What room type did you stay in? We are booked in a corner suite, do you have any information on them? I have looked at several pictures online that posters have posted but none are of that view. Do all the rooms have king sized bed?

Thanks in advance.

Karen

All the rooms have a king size bed..or at least it is referred to as a "Royal King" I don't know if it's a true King size but it is plenty large enough.

We were not in a corner suite..sorry. But I have seen pictures of them and they look quite lovely.

Have a great time!

Default Royal Cancun

We just returned from a week at the Royal Playa del Carmen but spent a day visiting the Royal Cancun. I think you will be really happy there - it's gorgeous. The pool area, food and service are great too. The beach is good although we preferred the wide beach at PDC. We didn't see the rooms but from the Trip Advisor website, they look much the same as the Royal PDC rooms. Here are a few pictures we took on April 12.

Kathy,

Thanks so much for the update and the pictures, they are great. The waiting is killing me at this point.

I am seriously counting down now.

Meg,

Did you write a review out on TA and post pictures?

No, I haven't done Trip Reports yet but I will....we just got back at 4am today...I'll do it soon and post more pictures. The last review I read on Trip Advisor was not a great review so I'll be doing a more positive trip report. They mentioned a rocky beach (?!), full of seaweed, and nothing to do at night - it's hard to believe we were at the same place as we found none of that to be true.

Default Beach seating, etc

DH & I are planning a trip to Cancun this summer & are seriously considering the Royal Cancun. Can anyone tell me what is available on the beach as far as seating? Are there palapas with chairs under them? Are the beds I see in the photographs available to everyone, or just if you book certain suites? Are the beds what they are calling cabanas, or is that something else?

Any insight you can give is appreciated. We pretty much plan to sit & stare at the ocean for a week, so beach seating is important. It will be the heat of summer, so shade is also important.

Thanks!

We are at the Royal right now. The place is gorgeous. THere are lots of beach cabannas on the beach and around the pool. There are some that are reserved for the Oceanfront Corner rooms and on up. There will be no problem getting one. The towel game is played here quite a bit, we saw people out claiming loungers at 7:00 this morning around the pool. My boyfriend went down around 8:30 and we have a Cabanna right in front of the pool. The service at the resort is out of this world. You will not regret booking here.

Default Has anyone stayed at this resort recently?

My wife and I will be staying at this resort in Feb. and we are wondering if anyone can give us an update on this resort, such as the quality of the food, rooms, type of atmosphere, etc. Any info we get would be appreciated as we had never heard of this resort and kind of stumbled on it's website and decided to give it a try. thanks.

Default excellent hotel

You will LOVE this hotel, brand new in 2007, rooms are beautiful, all with ocean view, jacuzzis, full balconies, stocked bar, king bed to die for ...
Food is exceptional, with an excellent buffet and several a la cartes
Hotel atmosphere is upscale, not too lively, but great entertainment in the evenings, wonderful oasis from the gogogo downtown.

Default Adults Only

I thought we read that the Royal is for adults only so do they allow discrete topless sunbathing in any of the areas? I know some of the resorts in the area encourage it but we are wanting something a little nicer and upscale

I wonder if they would allow topless down by the beach?

JeffNalisa - Loved the Cabo pics. My wife and I were there about 8 years ago and have talked about going back ever since. We had a blast at Squid Row, or as we called it skid row, as it seemed like everytime we went there one of us would end up falling off either the tables or bleachers. We will be at the Royal Cancun Feb. 14 - 19. can't wait as it's -19 again this morning.

Thanks. We have so many more not so "g"rated ones. Cabo was great but Cancun is just so much more fun.

I'm sure they allow topless on the beach but let us know once you get back. No one on TA.com has really answered the question neither.

I agree, Cancun can be so much more fun. At least the night life anyway. This will be our third time to Cancun. Last year we stayed at Aventura Spa Palace which is in the Riviera Maya, just south of Playa. The resort was fantastic, but you are kind of out there in the middle of nowhere so unless you wanted a long taxi ride you were stuck going to the clubs at the resort. That's why we decided to go back to Cancun this year as there is just so much more to do.

I just returned last night from the Royal. As to the topless question on the beach, I didn't notice anyone topless.

Sorry I didn't post earlier. Would have liked to stay longer as it was -18 when we got back home. The resort was absolutly beautiful, had a great time and would absolutly go back again. To answer the topless question, did notice several topless on the beach but none at the pool.

Default The Royal Cancun

We were here last September and loved everything about it. I'm not sure why people complain so much on TA but it's probably they're older ppl that shouldn't be staying at an adult only resort. We love it sooo much we are coming back May 21-28. There will be 8 of us arriving this time and we can't wait.

Default The Royal topless?

Gosh I wish they allow topless but when we were there last year we didn't see anyone go topless. Maybe some brave soul should do it and see what they would say.

By far, I think the Royal Cancun is the most amazing resort. I have stayed at several resorts in Cancun, including Dreams, Riu, and Gran Caribe and I must say this one is my utmost favorite of them all. It is extremely beautiful and clean and every room is equipped with a jacuzzi for two although we jammed five ppl in one time lol. The great thing about this resort is that you can go to dinner at any of the restaurant without any reservations, just try to get there earlier or later. The pool is gorgeous and Pelicano's is a wonderful casual restaurant to eat at. I don't have anything against kids but when you are on vacation, it's nice not to have them around screaming and yelling. We love it soooo much, we will be coming back for our third visit end of March. Hopefully we can find some beautiful gals this time to entertain us.

I have been to Cancun 4 times and love it! we are thinking about trying to ROYAL but are a little scared that it might be to "snotty" for us. I love how new and clean and big and sexy the rooms look. we dont want a ton of kids running around but we also want a lively pool scene with games, music, fun people etc... will I find that here? also I am a picky eater. as in i like boring buffet food, nothing fancy. Is this the wrong resort for me? should i stick to Cancun Palace (which i love)?
one last question .. do they have a "snack area" for out by the pool during the day where u can get a burger or chips/salsa??? thanks so much for any help..

We stayed last June and will be returning there in the late summer hopefully. We loved it.. Great food and not too fancy especially at Spices the buffet. Chefs Plate and Tapas might be a bit much for you. As for fun around the pool. Stay active with the entertainment staff and you should be able to meet like minded people. Plus they hit a club every night and we had the beswt times with them! FYI we are 31 and 38 and was not bored in the least. Plus no kids running around is a nice plus. We're going to Playa with ours in April, leave them home for "our" vacation.
