Default nice

I stayed here in 2001. Its a great location for anyone. Fat Tuesdays is right next door, as well as a small mini mart for food. Lots to do around the area! The hotel as a whole was ok. Never had any problem with the staff or the room. The food at the hotel was ok as well, we had their buffet every afternoon, seemed pretty good and clean! In my opinion, good hotel! Smaller, but good!! A good choice if your looking for a good hotel at a cheap price!

Dos Playas was a cozy place but if you are looking for luxury, you would have to look elsewhere. We stayed at one of the kitchenette suites that was owned by people not associated with the property and thus we had our own keys and really only went to the reception (who were very helpful) if we had general questions.

From what I gather, when you stay AI the rooms and their cleanliness vary day to day and staff to staff; in other words, it can be off and on in terms of cleanliness. The pool is of smaller size but the ocean is just steps away. Playa Tortugas was a very nice beach and that water was so calmand of course so light blue. Nearby is a dock that can take you to Isla Mujeres, etc. but it is more expensive than taking it at somewhere like Puerto Juarez. Gray Line tours is practically next door as well so if you come unprepared for a day trip, its very easy to set one up with them. Their prices seem to be standard even though we purchased through Brant, which really just equated to a few dollars off each person. Brant’s card really helped out with meals and clubs though

We only ate once at the restaurant, which is located near the pool, and the food was decent. Breakfast buffet price was $10 per person at that time (April 2004), during Semana Santa (Easter) Week. There is an Oxxo convenience store (and a family owned one) near where Gray Line is, so for those desperate cravings that you need to satisfy at night, there is a place that can help with that.

The best thing to Dos Playas was the location, in my opinion. Being near Fat Tuesday was good, but nothing too spectacular. However, being in between Punta Cancun and Downtown Cancun was perfect for us. Really, just a bus ride away to either fun area. We weren’t overly crowded by neighbouring hotels and/or businesses and the stretch of Playa Tortugas was a great walk and run.

This is a great spot for the budget traveler or spring breaker – you are in between two key spots of Cancun (punta cancun and downtown), near a tour operator and a convenience store, bus stations to and from each direction of the 7, away from the noise where a lot of hotels are crammed together, as well as the pleasantness of a calm beach.

Given all this, we actually are planning our second trip to Cancun staying at this property again

I had a really good time at dos playas, much better then expected. The reviews around are not great at all and it surpassed my expectation. I mean the place is not top of the line by anymeans but for the cash you spend 1000(cnd) it surely get the job done. Rico is a great guy for the animation team and hooked it up on several occasions and Venus at the bar at night is a really cood cat as well. The snack bar guy is awesome too (forgot his name), if you go dont forget about the snack bar its up at the top away from the pool and the hot dogs are pretty good. Overall, id say the food was pretty good but it sucks that its not 24/7 so I ate a lot of pizza. They only give you one key per room which really sucks esp if you sometimes forget it in the room or your buddy with the key is nowhere to be found. Overall though, Dos Playas is def worth the money for a 3 star. If anyone has any questions dont be afraid to reply/pm.

This hotel is my alternative to the Club Carrousel, can anyone tell me what the all inclusive is like?
Is there any good beer, Corona etc on offer and i have heard that spirits are limited and only mixed with Cola.

Any advice on this hotel for a couple of mid 20's guys who are out to have some fun and also chill in the Carib sun

Many thanks

Default Trip report for Dos Playas Jan 7 to the 14th 2006

I'll start out by saying me and three other guys had a great time at this resort.
On that note, Here we go.
On arrival we got are rooms. we all stayed in building C and its still being fixed up .. But the rooms we stayed in where very clean and nice. Better then some of them thats forsure. All the tiles were new and the bathroom was great. "For the money" Don't be shy .. tip the maid service and you will get treated right durning room clean up. It was very easy to meet people at this resort  you just had to open yourself up and say Hi. People where very friendly and from all over the world. The ones we met where from Sweden, France, and From are home town ... Canada. Each having there own personalty and great smiles. It was nice to have girls like that hanging around. Made dinner the first night very fun.

I won't go day by day but it will give you an idea as to what me did .. andwe didn't even break the tip of the ice burge.
Sunday night >>> Club >>> Basic's .. 35 US$ all you can drink .. "GREAT DEAL "
Monday night >>>Club>>>Daddy O's 35 US$ all you can drink Beer only unless you had a girl with you lol .. TIP WELL HERE !!!
Tuesday night >>>>Club>>>> can't remember. You will have to read my buddies review on this one lol
Wednesday night>>>I stay at the resort .. Buddies and a couple of girls went on the Booze cruze and said they had a blast. 50US$ and well worth it they said.
Thursday night >> Club Basic again *smiles .. By fara great club .. worth the second trip " Wet t Shrit contest was fun. HAHAH again 35US $ all you can drink.
Friday .. I went over to the island with a buddy and and to girls we met .. WOW was that ever worth the trip .. The boat ride and company was great .. I'd stay on the island over night again in a heart beat. The rooms are cheep .. Rent a golf cart for 40 US$ for 24 hours .. and stay in a really cheep room. You won't regreat this trip.
Saturday .. stayed by the pool till depart time.
We had really good weather al week and made some really great friends  All got realy dark. The thing with this resort is .. You really have to be able to make your own fun .. If you can't and you need someone to plan your day.. Best go somewhere else. Fun is what you make of it at DosPlayas.
Food was OK .. nothing great . But it seemed to agree with my body all week .. So I enjoyed it .. Breakfast was the best.
The Staff was also pretty friendly. Tip good if you can .. you will get treated better. I think I got 6 bottles of wine back to the room one night. Remember the bar closes @ 11:00 .. so a little extra back at the room is a bonus *wink lol
Staff at the front desk .. in the morning can be a little blunt .. but there busy at this time .. so be nice .. or you will be sitting a while lol
Could have done without the jack hammers and saws turning on at 8:30 in the morning .. But I know they are working hard to get the place ready for March breakers .. Should be ready the way they work.. So if your planing going here in march .. there will be lots of new stuff .. Looking nice. For the MONEY remember .
Overall.. I give the place a 3.5 star
Would I go back >>>??? Maybe. If the price was right . Look at spending 300.00 to 500.00 US ontop of your already payed for trip here. if you wanna keep busy.
And yes the Beach is very nice here.

Hope this helps anyone staying here in the future..
Had a great trip

Jay
P.S. I think a buddie that went down with us is also posting a review .. So read both and compare..

Hi all, I'm booked for a quick vacation in February to stay at the Crown Paradise Hotel. Does anyone know how this hotel is doing or has anyone stayed there in the not too distant past. Any information would be helpful. Thanks...Jaki

Default Recent review ....Just got back from Cancun 2/24/06-03/03/06

Dos Playas is fine for the economy minded traveler. It has a nice beach area. The food is mediocre but edible. The booze is just fine.
I was suprised at the room size( we went with another couple and their room was much smaller) perhaps it was a reward for walking up and down the stairs to the 3rd floor. (no elevators) They don't provide bottled water even though they say "we don't reccomend you drink the tap water"
There is a water cooler at the restaurant that you can refill the water bottles you buy. Bring an alarm clock (none in room) no ironing boards available. ( We brought a travel iron, they only have one iron for the entire hotel) Fat Tuesdays is right next door but if you are over 25 you'll feel out of place. Not enough beach chairs or umbrellas foer guests.(You have to get up before sunrise and stake you claim with beach towels to get a good spot. The cleanliness of the bar is questionable (saw the bar tender washing and reusing drinking straws) Cancun is a beautiful place and we will most likely visit again, but probably not at Dos Playas. It is a 1 1/2 star facility at best but it did the trick this time. You get what you pay for.

Default any pics?

Does anyone have any current pictures of Dos Playas? I have read mixed reviews about the place, but I really think it will be ok. Also, any suggestions on which building or room to stay in? We are going May 20th to May 24th.

Thanks!

Default Dos Playas 24 Feb 06 - 3 Mar 06

http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLan...fromshare&Ux=0

If this link works then there are a couple recent photos of Dos Playas.
Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, if you want a 4 star hotel you'll have to pay probably twice or more than you are paying for DP.
If you are more concerned with the beaches and other activities in Cancun and are looking for a place to eat free(drink free too!) and sleep
then DP is not that bad. As for buildings We had one which a had view of the laggon/bay and the ocean, but it was on the 3rd floor with no elevators.Definetly get an ocean view room.
Enjoy your trip, we really did.

Hey we're staying here in february and I was wondering if anyone has been lately. This hotel was a lot cheaper than anything else and I'm wondering why. On TripAdvisor it doesn't have bad ratings at all. What is the dealio here?
