Default Riu Cancun

RIU CANCUN

We stayed here in September 2003.

Walked in to a beautiful huge lobby, and we were handed a welcome drink.

We met Maribel at the front desk, and she could not have been sweeter!
She gave us our towel cards, lock for our safe, our wristbands, and a list of the restaurants.

She said our room was ready, and if we were not satisfied to call her, and she would see to it that we'd be moved to a different room.

Now that's customer service with a smile! We were impressed!

The bellboy took our luggage, and we headed to our room on the top floor, room 1512.

We took the elevator up to room 1512, and immediately stepped out on the balcony...........
WOW! ... What a view!

Our room was nice, 2 double beds pushed together, 2 nightstands, a small table with 2 chairs, a dresser with adequate drawer space, a large closet with lots of hangers. There was a clock radio, a t.v., a hairdryer, a safe in the closet, and our very own liquor dispenser.

We had a mini bar filled with Corona, Pepsi, 7 UP, and lots of bottled water.
All of this was included in the all-inclusive price.

The hotel provided soap, shampoo, bath gel and a shower cap.

There was a private balcony with 2 chairs and a small table.
Everything was spotlessly clean.
We never saw a bug or even an iguana the entire time at the hotel.

We were very satisfied with our room, and the view from our balcony was just breathtaking!

We were so pleased with the Riu. The hotel is beautiful.

You never felt "crowded", there were plenty of lounge chairs, we never waited for a drink or a buffet line.

And the service was superb!
Every employee greeted us when we passed by, and they always had a smile on their face.

This hotel is in a great location, the staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and the
food was good, always a big variety.
They had entertainment every night, and they also had a disco.
We would recommend the Riu Cancun!

Default I love the liquor dispenser

My friend and I are going in June for a girl's week. I love the liquor dispenser....we will get a kick out of that now that we are old.

I just talked my hubby into going The first full week of April. we will be staying at the GR Solaris.

I booked the June trip several months ago and I can't wait to see the RIU and those cute little liquor dispensers. I think we can get some funny pictures out of that.

I found in an old forum that if you stay at Rui Cancun you have free access to Senor Frogs and Carlos & Charlies. Is that true??? Also, am I going to have access to the other Riu Resort in Cancun. Any answers would be much appriciated....Thank You in advance!

I dont know for sure with the Riu, but I do know that many hotels include a pass for Senor Frogs on their bracelets, so there is a good chance it is true. But this will only be a 'no cover charge' not open bar so will save you $5 or so. You'll still have to pay for drinks. Carlos N Charlies is free cover anyway, so there is nothing to be saved there.

Hey Hey Hey....

I am planning a trip for my crew of of 10 ( 4 boys / 6 gals ) all in our mid twenties who love to party and have a good time... We are an all smiles no drama crowd who usually end up on top of the bar / tables @ the clubs and wanted to get some opinions of the RIU...

Some are partial to the Oasis / Grand Oasis and others partial to the RIU... We like the style / new feautes of the RIU and figure we can have a good time / start a party anywhere but are also attracted to the party atmosphere of the Oasis/Grand Oasis...

- HAs anyone been to both?
- Any strong recomendations
- Hows the AI package @ RIU
- How many bars / resturaunts does the RIU have and how late are they open?
- Can we ask for doubles @ the bar w/ AI & would they allow my Beer Bong down in the pool area?
- ANy events / shows / activities @ the bar / pool?

Thanks in advance...

You should expect an answer in no time. If you want to browse around in the meantime, do a search using the feature near the top of this page. You can also look around the "unofficial" Riu site for discussions on this resort:

Our price is $1200(usd) per person based on double occupancy. for 8 days 7 nights all inclusive. Air, and hotel transfer included (from Balto-Wash.). We booked through a private travel agent using Apple Vacations. We have access to all other Riu resorts in Cancun and included is cover for a few clubs (can't remember which ones, our agent told us). I can't wait leaving in 12 hours (yes I'm on here at 6am) Unfortunately I'm stuck here at work today working overtime. oh well.

Also....If anyone has stayed in the Annex building recently, I'd like a report. I believe thats the building my room is in. I've heard the rooms are bigger in the Annex.

Me and my friends stayed there March 18-25, 2005 and loved it. Don't think we'll go back, but the reason is that i'd love to check out other resorts. We got a really good deal on-line and left from Halifax. We only paid $1000 taxes included..... for the week. Pretty sweet.
I have nothing but good things to say about the resort and the staff. I had a really great week and look forward to my next trip.

I really liked the Riu Cancun but found it to be much more mellow than other hotels. Food was fine though~ rooms were great and the location can't be beat.

Thats the whole reason we now love staying here....its literally 30 seconds from all of the best clubs/bars in Cancun (no cabs or buses needed). We also had a great time on the resort......we met a ton of people that made spending time there worthwhile. Blondie, when did you stay there last year? Lol, I think I met you.

You can see the Riu Cancun from almost anywhere in Cancun, it is HUGE.
Some of the hotels on the outside have chipped paint and look a little run down and are still rated 4 star hotels. The Riu Cancun is in top notch condition.

The lobby is goregous and well air conditioned. They give you tasty fruit juice before taking you to your room. The front desk speaks excellent english and are extremley helpfull. We had trouble dialing the US from our room and they let us call for free from the lobby. But beware it is 3.00 per minute to make long distance phone calls and it adds up quick.

The rooms were very nice. The beds were kind of hard, but the pillows were really soft and with the sound of the ocean I had no trouble falling
asleep. The bathroom is huge and has a shower cap, shampoo, blow dryer and our room also had a ironing board. Their are ceiling fans above the bed which really help when you have a sunburn. The mini bar was restocked every day with huge bottles of water, 7 up, bottled pepsi and pepsi lite and of course Corona. Their were four types of alcohol in the liquor dispenser. THEY HAD CUERVO 1800 now thats quality. I was too scared and didn't hit the 1800 till the last night.

The balcony was my favorite part of the room!!!!

Here is another view

The food at the Riu was very good. The buffet did get repetitive but there were always way too many choices which can be hard for indecisive people. Here is our lunch.

We also tried Kawachi which was the Japanese restaurant. The food was pretty good and the sushi was excellent. This was my first time to try sushi. They also have a brazillan restaurant but we never made reservations but heard it was good.

The pools were great they have a quiet pool which I checked out once it was very nice but too quiet. They have an activity pool and we played water volleyball and my brother got in on the belly smacker contest. They have lounge chairs in the pool that are very refreshing to lay out in. Our favorite was the pool bar.

You can take artistic photos at the pool bar

For those that like to people watch their are lots of topless sunbathers on the beach and around the pool.

One of the infinity pools, you can see Isla Mujeres very well from this pool.

This is Ivan at La Punta bar making me a rose. The staff here are excellent they make you feel very welcome. I loved everything about this hotel. The food, pools, entertainment, staff, apperance and rooms were the best. I want to go back so bad!!!!!!

Default room service

Strange question I know, but does anyone know if room service is available/included at the Rui Cancun? I'm not lazy(!), it's just something we've noticed that some of the other hotels offer and we are just weighing them all up at the moment..

Thanks!

I have no idea but they do have to go boxes if you want to take food to your room.

Nice pics Liz and great review. From what I saw of the place when we spent an hour there with you it seems perfect. Might well be looking for a long weekend soon and may well try the Riu.... if we can afford it!

And thanks for sneaking us a few beers
