Laura and I stayed here 3 years ago. We loved it. I know I have read
some bad reviews about Avalon since, but the service was good, our
room was oceanfront and beautiful. We have considered staying here
again, we just got better deals elsewhere. Would recommend it to anyone.

We have stayed here twice. It was nice, but I dont' think we would stay there again. It's pretty quiet and their beach is almost non-existant. The service was great and we did get a fabulous beach front room.

Just got back from spending 8 wonderful nights at the Avalon Grand!! This hotel is something that must be seen!! The rooms are big, the beds are huge, and the service is second to none!!! I tell you what, they really know how to treat their guests! This hotel is great for students and great for families! They cater to both!! The room service food wasn't all that great, but their buffet during the morning and night more than made up for it!! Not to mention all the bars located through out the complex!! Out at the pool, they have an entertainment staff that organizes games, music, and activities to get everyone involved, whether you are young or old!! All in all, the Avalon Grand was a GREAT hotel!! Looking for a great deal, the avalon is the way to go! Great location, great staff, great hotel!!

Default Going in Jan

Hello,

Going to Cancun and January for the second time. The first time was like 5 years ago and we loved it. We stayed at the Cancun Palace. This time we are staying at a timeshare my parents bought and it is at Avalon Grand. Last year we stayed at the Avalon Reef Club in Isla Mujeres and loved it (Isla what an amazing place). How is the Avalon Grand? I have seen such mixed stuff. We are not staying AI so not worried too much about the food. What hotels are next to it, so I can try and picture where it is.

Thanks!

Default Avalon Grand

My wife and I bought into this property 3 years ago. If you are looking for a deal on a variable week, we would be willing to sell. It just has not met our expectations.

Default Any new info

Does anyone have any new info or any recent pictures of the Avalon Grand. They claim they'll be open on September 2nd, which going by reports after Wilma, seems a little optimistic. Thanks!

We stayed at the Avalon for 2 weeks in 2004 and it was an awesome experience. One of my favorites but we are trying Adults only this year at BBG. I think the food was incredible and had the best view room in the place too. I can't remember a thing to complain about so service was top notch also.

We own at Grand & just came back from Avalon Reef in Isla on Sat, as the Grand is still being fixed up from hurricane. We spent a day at Avalon Baccara a few doors down from Grand & saw the Grand still being worked on.

Locals keep saying they are planning on opening Labor Day weekend, but from what I saw, that will never happen. October-November is more realistic, unless they open up only parts of the hotel.

As owner in at the Grand, was able to use Baccara for the day. It was very nice, but very quiet & private, only 27 rooms, about 1/2 for timeshares & 1/2 used as hotel. The dinner restaurant, Avanti was very very good & very very empty.

If you want to be away from crowds, Baccara is the place. Avalon, when finished, looks like it will be even better than it was before.

I just returned from Cancun & went to see The Avalon & Beach Palace. The
Avalon hotel section is open, the villas are still under renovation. The whole place has been facelifted, hotel lobby, pool area, etc...Don't know about the rooms. They were filling the pool on thursday. It looks awesome.

The Beach Palace still looks a little while longer. The steel is in place, that's about all. Maybe 3 months??? I will post picture soon. Hope this helps you.

The new and inproved Avalon Grand looks 10 times better than it was before. Only the front portion of the hotel and pool is open. But, I have to say it looks amazing compared to what it was before i was impressed.

Yeah!! They've done it up with a more modern touch. The lobby is now bigger and extends out to where the jacuzzi and pool was in between the property. There's a nice lounge bar in the lobby. Pool looks much nicer with a waterfall like feature. I can't wait to see it all done. It looks really good. Haven't seen the rooms yet, but if they are anything like what I seen it should be awesome!!

Default The Good & Bad

Stayed at the Avalon Grand over Christmas and the improvements are great. The expanded lobby bar and sitting area is really nice and an enjoyable place to relax and have a drink w/friends at night. The new pool and pool deck is also very nice. There is also a new bar by the pool that serves drinks and made to order lunches like quesadillas, hamburgers, sandwiches..... The rooms look pretty much the same, but w/new bedspreads and plasma t.v.'s. Some negative points though - it was quite obvious to us and everyone else that the hotel is shorthanded. Trying to get service in the restaurant upstairs was almost impossible and the same goes for the pool bar w/one bartender trying to serve all the drinks and one guy trying to prepare all of the made to order lunches. So, overall the hotel looks better, but the service is worse!

Default Avalon Grand

Been a while since I have beenon the forum, but am looking to head to Cancun in January. We toured the Avalon Grand about 2 years ago I think it was and thought it looked wonderful..

My question is this.. is this a time share only type of hotel? My travel agent, who uses numberous companies, is unable to locate this hotel anywhere.. so she suggested that maybe you must own time there.

Does anyone know if this is true? If not, wht agency would someone recommend for me to call to book my vacation at the Avalon?

Im a litttle leary of booking thru Expedia or Travelocity.. at least to a destination such as Cancun...

HELP!!!

Avalon Grand is a GREAT place, stayed there about 3 years ago! You do not have to have timeshare, however, you can get the place dirt cheap by renting a "time share" there, plus you get members only free drinks all day at their members bar!!

Default Avalon

We did a "time Share" visit and were, of course, put through hell trying to convince us to buy.. but I am tough.. Haha

It looked like a wonderful place..

I found amazing prices on Travelocity, ect.. but I have not used them to book for Mexico.. in the states yes, but not to Mexico.. Anyone ever used them for travel such as that.. if so.. how was the experience??

We are in Omaha NE and I have called 4 different travel agencies... none of which are able to book at the Avalon Grand. Anyone know of a company such as Funjet or Apple that I could use. I called Funject directly yesterday and they dont use the hotel.

We are coming down alone, my husband and I, for the first time.. thought we would like to get away from all the pain in the ass friends who cant agree what to do or not to do when they are in a big group. We are not necessarily looking for quiet by any means.. we like to have fun and party.. coming home at 4 or 5 am from a nite out in Cancun is perfect for us... Perhaps we should try Blue Bay Getaway instead??

I have booked through travelocity for Avalon Baccara. They did a great job, only we couldn't select which room we wanted.
