I sure hate to hear that...Melia T must have really taken a beating by Wilma....maybe you should consider the RIU Cancun or RIU Caribe????
Check them out on this site, and some of the other travel sites. Have a great time!

We are going to book at the GR Solaris in lieu of the Melia Turquesa. I can hardly wait till it is back up and running and better than ever. In the mean time, I am certain we'll enjoy the new Solaris.

Ok. The GR Solaris is where we've decided! Don't really know anything about it except the reviews I see on sites, which are both good and bad. Anyone know? Any info on the place, beach, etc would be great! Thanks! 118 days and counting WOOHOO!!! And praying for no hurricanes!!!

I would also recommend the OMNI - it is tons of fun, great service, staff, location and the place is beautiful. We had a great time last May and will be there again in 22 days with four kids in tow.

It was so great we bought a timeshare and love having it.

Good luck and I think the best way to have a goodtime no matter where you stay, is attitude and expectation. Just have a good time and be specific, gracious, friendly, and if you're not happy - give them the opportunity to fix it.

Live it up.
Kathy

Default Melia Turquesa Update!

Cozmo, I'll find you some of the information that I have accumulated on the GR Solaris. I'm very excited about our upcoming trip. On the TA board, the best information I got was on a thread by Dangers, giving his review. He answered many questions and was a huge help.

Update on the Melia Turquesa!!

I wrote them and received the following information in email, along with four pictures of the new hotel, from a planning perspective only. They are mock ups, but WOW, the place has taken on a totally new, retro type of look. I'd hardly recognize it.

Once I figure out how to post the pictures I will, until then, here is the email. Feel free to email yourself and I am sure they will forward on the zip file of pictures as well.

Boy is there a big differance in pricing at the Melia from what we paid in Feb 2005 when we lasted stayed there, to our plans to go Feb 2007. Referance: Worryfreevacations.com

I know changes have been made and they need to make up for it, but I think they priced me down the beach to stay somewhere else.

Sorry Melia

K Man...Did it appear to you that all the balconies have been removed from the street side. It sure looked like that to me. Was surprised!

It also appears that the balconies are gone on the sea side also. Tripadvisor.com has a promo link scanning the building on the pool side. There was nothing like a cup of coffee on your balcony in the morning watching the sun come up.

anyone stayed here recently?
My fiance` and I are considering this place for our honeymoon in November. Just wondering what the service was like, on tripadvisor it got some terrible reviews.

Also, wondering if we should upgrade to 'The Level' or if it more of a gimmick.

I've heard that it is not going to be an AI anymore.. does anyone know what the buffet breakfast is worth? and is it any good?

I stayed at Me by Melia from Friday March 23, 2007-March 27, 2007. It was really nice, we rent a bed near the ocean slept all day long there. My sister and I went to do a spa as well, I love the spa and service there. We are planning to go back to Cancun this memorial day weekend and of course we will stay in Me again!

We just got back last week and stayed at the ME. The rooms are beautiful, very modern and sleek, as is the entire hotel. The wall in the room next to windows is full mirrors so the room feels extra large. Our fridge was warm, but we found later in the evening that we shut it off when we flipped a switch next to the dresser...oops. The staff brought water for the fridge every day. Our room was in the middle nearish the elevators facing the ocean.
There is construction on both sides of the hotel so make sure to try and not get a room near the outsides so your view is better. No balconies but great breeze every day coming thru the open windows. There are outside spaces with the rooms on the very outside edges of the hotel with large beds with canopies.

The food was ok. Not sure how to describe it. There are 3 restaurants not including the one serving hamburgs and hotdogs during the day(outside)
We were all inclusive but it was a trip won thru my sisters company, if I was staying there and paying for it I don't think I would go AI. I was tired of the restaurants after the second day. The restaurant is easily within walking distance to other places to eat for dinner.

I agree with the above poster, the spa is wonderful!!!!!! Pools very nice as was the beach.

They have free internet in the e-bar. 8 pc's set up so it was nice to send a quick email to say we arrived safe and sound.

I've been in Cancun 2 other times and the staff at other hotels usually had no problem understanding English.....this was not the case at the ME. I did not meet one staff member who understood us clearly at all. The standard answer was yes  to whatever the question was....but yes almost always meant no!

Overall...it was a great trip. The hotel was very beautiful.

Default ME Cancun 9 Dec 09

The driver that was prearranged took us to the ME Cancun after a long day of flying. When we walked into the lobby I was kind of dissapointed. It was pretty dark inside and almost had a deserted feel to it. There was one clerk at the desk and as there were 3 people in line, it took a bit to get checked in. Finally go checked in and some girl escorted us to the elevator and told us the someone would be calling the room to make sure that everything was working ok. We just barely got into the room and the phone rang. This guy asked if the room was ok (had barely set the bags down) and suggested that we stop by his desk so he could tell us about the hotel and what it had to offer. Ok..

My wife was a bit hungry so we headed for the beach bar to get something to eat. It was about 3 in the afternoon and we hadn't eaten since about 5 that morning. As we got off of the elevator, there was that same girl who had taken us to the elevator. She then took us to the guy that called about the room. All we really wanted to do was get some lunch, but guess what? We were going to get hit with a time share sales pitch!! Hadn't been in the hotel 30 minutes and we are taken by the hotel staff and sat down in front of a time sales pitchman. I was furious!

I tried to be polite and tell him that I was not interested in any timeshares, but polite does not work with these people. I finnaly just told him to piss off and got up and left. Then we walked down to the beach, only to find out that the beach was closed!! Yes, closed!! It seems that there was some sort of construction project going on and access to the water was blocked by some pipeline. All of the beach access points from the hotel were roped off.

Now I understand that the hotel has no control over the governments projects, but the hotel should have told me that this construction was going on!! I had been in contact with the hotel by email up to the morning of my arrival and there had never been any mention of this...

I came to Cancun to go to the beach! Not being able to go to the beach is important info!!

The hotel was quite remiss in not telling me this...

The room itself is OK, nothing special but not bad either. I read on a different post about the lack of english speakers. I did have quite a bit of trouble communicating at the beach bar. My waiter did not have even a basic working knowledge of english. I realize that this is Mexico, but this is not a small local resteraunt, this is a major hotel catering to tourists, the staff should be able to communicate in at least a basic manner. I had to write down my name and room number for the waiter as he did not understand me and I had to point at the menu item that I wished to order as he did not understand "Chcken Sandwich".

All in all I am not impressed with this hotel and will not be returning to this property.

SILK

SILK

The expression “silk route” was first mentioned in Siria during the 11th Century BC. The route already existed. The ancient Mediterraneans already bought Chinese silk but nobody knew about its animal origin nor the secrets of its manufacturing. For its infinite softness, famous finesse and lustrous presence it is called silk.

The style “Latin Asian Bistro” represents the fusion between the traditional Asian cuisine and its perfect mix of latinamerican accents and flavors. Bringing up the encounter flavors sharing the experience of family style service, Silk offers a journey through 3 different sceneries: The magic of the Japanese Teppanyaki, The majesty of the Chinese Wok and a contemporary variety of sushis and sashimis.

Would definitely love to hear someone who has stayed here in 2011 and who can tell us how it really is... Like people have said, reviews are ALL OVER THE PLACE! A lot of people complain on how "All Inclusive" it really is. Im booked here March 8-13!
