We were just there, checked out on Friday at noon. We had NO problems at all, and had 2 rooms. The problems seem to center around groups of teens/young adults. After seeing how some of them behave, I almost understand. The hotel is in good condition, the beach is awesome, pools are great, food was fine (nothing spectacular, but I've had far far worse), and drinks were plenty strong. My kids fell in love with this resort and are already planning a return trip for next summer!

Default Drinks

I have been to the Riu Cancun but our group is looking for a little less hotel for less $$. We are thinking of going to the Tucancun. From everything I have read it sounds perfect for us. Few questions if anyone can please help?

What type of beer do they serve? We would like to be able to drink Dos Equis, Tecate etc.

Wine? I love wine but know the varieties are usually one type of red and one type of white in these resorts. Do they have more?

Are you able to wade in the ocean? I know the Carribbean side is very rough. Just wondering if it is best to just sunbathe on the beach or if you can wade out into the water?

About reservations: When you make a reservation at a restaurant do they bring your food out in courses? We made reservations at previous all inclusives and we LOVED how they did this. MUCH better than buffet style.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I scanned through all the posts in this forum and could not find any info on these topics.

Thanks!

Default Water

So, do all rooms have a stocked minibar? And do they stock a couple of bottles of water in it every day?

We are scheduled to arrive in May and are a bit nervous after reading some pretty negative reviews.

I believe it does. You can call Verizon and they can set you up with an international plan for like a month or something to cover when you are there. I believe there are some stickies at the top of the Cancun Info or Breakers forum that also explains some options about using cell phones in Cancun.

I do use Verizon as well and I did recieve a call without the international plan, but I didn't try to dial out.

Hope this helps a bit.

Default Sunshine Club - Barcelo Tucancun. How do u book the villas?

The Barcelo Tucancun has a number of 2 bedroom villas called The Sunshine Club. I've been to a number of travel websites as well as timeshare rental websites. So far everyone I've checked has no villas available for rent, for any timeslot.

Has anybody stayed in one of the villas. I would appreciate any info on how to go about renting one. We really want to stay at this resort, but we need a villa.

Any info appreciated.

Have just got back from this hotel today.

Will look at giving a detailed report on the hotel. But for us 2 and the many others who went out on the same flight from England on the 26th had an excellent time there.

The waiters and service is excellent and fast. The food was pretty good and there was also a good variety.

The rooms were clean and our mini fridge was kept filled up constantly, even with extra beer that we requested.

One thing of note i do have to add. Two entertainers called Angel and Pokomon are by far the funniest people i have met.

They provide entertainment and games down by the pool from 10am till 5pm and give away t-shirts, caps etc.

I cant thank them enough, especially with the fact that every night they were out drinking with us down the clubs and didnt return until the early hours only to go down to the the pool at 10am feeling crap to find them both looking as lively as ever.

Had an excellent time. Am already considering the same place again for next year.

Awesome place....great restaurants (4 if I remember correctly)

Great multi level pools that over look an awesome section of newly restored beach.

The beaches are now so wide, they are amazing.

This resort 'Tucancun' sits directly behind the Kukulcan Plaza Mall.

This mall is amazingly nice. If you want cheaper internet you can get it here.

Attached to this Kukulcan Plaz Mall is a Christie's Steakhouse and Chocolate City etc.

Great high and end lower end products in this Mall.

You are not far from downtown Cancun (by bus) and even closer to La Isla which is an awesome MUST SEE outdoor shopping center with starbuck, McDonald's, Senor Frogs etc...plus lots and lots of shopping and more.

There is nightly entertainment at Tucancun (usually each night is a different theme)
You will become very acquaninted with the entertainment team at this resort which when I was there was Charlie, Tracy, Tony & Gabrielle..

There job is to help you have the best stay possible.

They play games daily, play music poolside and joke around to make you laugh.
A few of them are involved in the nightly entertainment at the resort usually as well which is in the Entertainment Theater in the resort.

Lots of fun and great location..

We booked our villa back in September through RCI. I think we snagged the last one for our date range. Our visit is Dec 24th through 31st. I'm pretty sure you have to be an RCI member to book a villa at the sunshine club. Not avaliable to the public. I could be mistaken though.

If there are any other couples out there with kids during that week staying at Barcelo Tuacancun, and would like to meet up for excursions or to hang out and have drinks at the pool, hit us up. Our boys are 11 and 13. It's always fun to make new friends and hang out with other people.
