We are back to Playa this weekend. Going to a different place than in October, but really nice and great beach.

We already have 2010 set with trips to Playa, Roatan, and Cozumel. I would love to sneak a quick one to the GP, but doubt it happens.

We are set to go to the GP around March 1st, 2011. Probably will go twice in 2011. I hope its remodeled completely by then.

Are they remodeling it? I'd say it's about time. Not that I minded too much,. but that resort screamed cheesy 70s decor, plus pieces of our room were crumbling off of the wall when we were there. I will def return there if/once its remodeled.

We have hope. Seven days, the 7-14 of February, around $3k. Should have booked earlier as we have in the past.

Hoping to find a better deal than that if we book in '10 (last time we stayed at the GP, we paid about $1,700 for 5 nights...and that was for a "Golden" room with ocean view).

How is the beach at Great Parnassus? Is it still rocky?

Probably is, as it has always been rocky. The beach restoration is going well though. Don't know how soon they will be down on that end. Might check some recent resort reports on the great on trip advisor.

We leave in a few weeks. A few questions for repeaters if you dont mind.

1. When we arrive can we book a snorkle excursion at the GP? Any recommendations? We do not want to do a jungle tour, just some decent snorkling with 2-3 stops.

2. I was bored and reading the GP posts. I read a few times that the Club Rooms do not have a balcony? We were assured by out TA when we booked that we did. We booked a Ocean View Club room.

3. It is NEGATIVE -40 in Iowa tonight, I want to leave now.

I believe all the club rooms DO have a balcony, after they redid all the 6th floor rooms.

You can book just about any trip there. We have never done any snorkling in Cancun, but a lot of diving in Playa and Cozumel. I'm sure there are places, and I've heard its pretty good down on the very south end by Club Med, etc....

We are a warm 5 right now!!!!

Its going to warm up to 25 by sunday here, going to feel like a heat wave.

I think I was reading posts from 2004 about the balconies, so that makes sense.

I was thinking of a snorkle tour south of cancun, we will just wait until we arrive to book I guess.

Any need to bring your own beach towel to GP?

No need to bring towels to GP; plenty there at the towel shack next to the pool.

They have gone to towel cards since you were last there Jay. Kinda sucks. Sometimes Betty brings an extra towel or two if we have room just for a pillow, or whatever.

Hate packing extra towels, especially now that I got some new scuba gear for Christmas (regulators, guages, etc.) and suitcase space for a 7-day trip is at a premium. I would much rather pack "toys" than towels....

The GP thread seems to be the busiest by far of all the non temptation hotels.

Do you guys think a separate subforum just for the Golden Parnassus would have enough activity to work?

Steve, it seems the TT forums generate alot of interest in those attending that resort. Maybe promoting the GP forum would be wise. I sure would like to meet peeps before leaving on our trip or future trips.

I am really gratefull for the pointer and tips I recieve on this GP forum.

I noticed we can book the Capt Hook Tour at GP. Has anyone been on this tour, is it worth the 100 pp for the lobster dinner and entertainment?

Default bus stop

I have issues using the bus. Miss my stop every time Rather not use it at all honestly.. but GP is too far from 'party zone' to walk. No fun getting dropped at wrong spot at night when you're traveling solo. Can someone tell me which way to go from GP entrance to get to the bus stop and what marker should I look for to make sure I get dropped off at the right spot when I return to the hotel. Heard something about the Ritz.. GP not being exactly on Kulkulkan so gotta walk.. Thanks

I was going to ask about the bus stop issue at GP as well. We will be there
Jan 22 -28. We too are looking forward to getting out of the cold.

We always say the Ritz Carlton when getting off on the bus, as it stops going south, so you have to cross traffic. The best entrance into the Golden is walking up the road towards the Ritz. If you say the Golden, you sometimes go past that entrance, and end up walking further, as you go up between the Golden and Le Meriden. (sp)

It is quite a long walk if you are drunk, but thats the way it is. We have made that walk at 4am many, many times.

It's that long of a walk, huh? Decided to stay at the Golden after doing the Great last year. For those of you familiar with the Great or the Oasis, is the walk similar to those? First time staying at the Golden P for me this upcoming March...

Its longer than the great, as they just drop you off pretty close. The Golden does not sit on Kuckluckan (sp) road. You walk quite a few blocks in essence. Not that far really, but your not dropped off in front or anything.

Ok, I've added a new sub forum for you all. Which you can find here:

Golden Parnassus - Cancuncare

I dont know much about this hotel having never stayed there myself, so I'll leave it up to you guys to post some threads and keep it going. Hopefully, it will start getting picked up by search engines and new people looking for info will find it soon enough. We'll see how it goes, if it grows to become pretty active then I'll upgrade it to a true forum instead of a subforum.

I'll lock this thread now and ask everyone to continue discussions in the new forum.
