Default Cancun in April?

Hi all.

Myself and some friends are thinking of coming to Cancun in April either the week of the 16th or 23rd. We are young guys from the UK.

I have read that April is the quiet time in Cancun.

Are people still partying at this time? We will come later in the year if the clubs are going to be dead. I'm just a bit worried after reading April is quiet that there arn't going to be many young people around?

We are willing to wait until later in the year if the clubs are going to be empty in April.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm going in April as well, the 17th-24th. It's obviously not going to be as crazy as March due to it being spring break for colleges but i'm not sold that it will be extremely dead. The week i'm going is April vacation week for the northeast so many winter weary folks from up my way will be going down, i'm sure. Just curious, do you have any links on where you read that April is a down time. If flight prices are any indication then it will not be dead. Round trip from Boston right now is 750 on orbitz.com.(cheapest flight one layover) I think i paid in the $500's when I booked in late January.

Hey Jay, this is the link where i read about April. Maybe i'm just being pessimistic thinking it will be dead? It just says there are fewer visitors in April....

the only time i ever went in april was 4/10-17/2004. the economy was in a lot better shape.... but it was about 5 times busier than it has been the last 2 years in april. I think its all about the financial issues though.

If you are overly concerned about clubs I might wait it out. I'm in my late 20's so going to a jammed club isn't my top priority, kind of a been there done that. I've looked at a lot of "advisor" sites and April seems to have the least rain with warmer temps. without the opressive humidity of the summer months. One way or another I hope you decide to go and have fun no matter what time of year. Good luck.

I agree, it is hard to tell how busy Cancun will be. Recently numbers have gone down because of the economy.

Historically, the worst period in the area is September, locals refer to September as "Septiambre", which is a play on words, stating that in September we go hungry cause things are dead.

Now, even when the clubs are not packed, they are still lots of people in there. When things start to get too slow, they start offering us locals great promotions, or even free passes to go, helping them "pack" the place.

Just read an article on yahoo! about how Cancun has made a serious rebound after last year's dismal traveler numbers. The country has invested upwards of $80 million on such projects as beach restoration and other maintenance projects. All of the numbers are up from last year, almost double digits (percentages). Still probably no where near the numbers they were seeing when us American's were living the good life 5 years ago.
