Default Golf carts on Isla Mujeres

Hi were planning on going to Isla Mujeres in 2 weeks, on a Sunday...we probably won't get there until about 12 noon at least. Has anyone ever experienced golf cart rentals running out if you arrive too late in the day? We will be needing 3 of them. Someone warned me about this a few months ago, but I figured it was only during high season. Thanks.

You should be ok at that time of year, especially if it's just 3 carts.

We sometimes had problems getting enough carts when we did the golf cart tour as part of the booze cruise, but this was usually when we were looking to hire 7 or 8 carts at 2pm during high season.

Ok thanks, will try to go early, but will be travelling w/ my 20 yo son and his friend, they're late sleepers as it is, but imagine adding alcohol *eyeroll*....
I've done the cart tour 1 or 2 times, and it was SOOO much fun...we will be travelling w/ 3 other couples in addition to my son and his friend, so should be a very fun trip.

I do this a few times each year. Always got my carts at the place adjacent to the Sombrero de Gomar restaurant on Hidalgo. They were out of them two times in a row but referred me to a place at the next corner, taking a left onto Guerrero and it was on the left about half way down toward Playa Norte. 3 times now I talked myself into a "locals" discount.

Going there today for a long weekend and was going to grab another cart but the plans changed and am now taking my car there on the car ferry, a first for me. Helping a friend celebrate the big 4-0. Can't wait.

Actually, I've found it just the opposite. After 1pm or so you can get 24hr rates at a discount if you bargin a bit. You'll get the carts for an afternoon sight seeing run up and down the island. An evening run to whatever destination you have planed. And morning transport to the Turtle Farm or the Point or many of the other sites you found the day before that might like to explore before lunch.

Then turn the carts back in, have a great lunch somewhere downtown and enjoy the rest of the afternoon on the beach.

We ended up renting from PPe's off Hidalgo and Matamoros...it was 600 pesos (about $50 US) for 2 golf carts for 2 hours. It was like 3 pm already once we ate lunch at Posada del Mar (best ceviche and guacamole btw) so we didnt want to get a daily rate...

They aren't running out these days. Construction is making it hard to get to the shops and they all close by 5pm

I'm staying in the hotel zone, can we catch the ferry over to Isla and just rent a golf cart to rip around wherever we want for the day ? Or do you have to follow a big convoy around with a tour guide and everything. Anyone know ?

You can for sure rent one on your own and do as you please. You rent for the day for about 50 USD. Be your own caravan!! That is what we did.

You got it Turpin. You just dont want to bring uneeded attention to yourself.

They do have beer cup holders on those carts so, USE EM!

There are all sorts of spots to stop on Isla, we also brought a cooler with us and stopped at one of the little convienence stores got a 6 pack and some ice then traveled. You will want to get started early there is a lot to see on Isla and you'll wish you started earlier. I'm pretty sure you will have to have the cart back by 5:00 pm. We stayed until the last ferry left at about 10:30 or 11:00, there is a lot to do downtown where you will rent the cart. So do your traveling to the South and West sides in the cart and then after returning the cart you can wander all over downtown.
Have a blast!

I swear their Pina Coloada's are the best I've ever had.. awsome place.
I'm pretty sure that is the name of the place "Beer so cold it will hurt your teeth" we have a picture in our Album.
they don't have a menu, but the owner told us that we could order in, he recommended a place and my god we had the best beef burritos ever. Love it there.

how much do the cart rentals usually cost for the day? Or is it by the hour?

Last time I went 2 years ago it was 50 for the day, and you have to have them back by 5:00 pm.

Went with 3 friends on Sunday and we got a cart for $400. In all fairness we got it for 3 hours with the posted price $180 per hour. But I have rented there often and am certain I could have had it the whole day for that price as I have done it before.

We left Cancun on the 11:30 am ferry and got some food really close to the docks. I had to get the 4:30 ferry back. The place is called Rentadora Cardenas. It is on a street called Guerrero. From the docks go left to where the main road curves to the right. Guerrero is the 3rd street to the right and is down that street on the right. Logo on golf carts is red, white and blue. Bargain hard but don't pay more than $400, which is like $32 US and all taxes are included. They will keep your driver's license as security. Have fun. Watch out for the topes (speed bumps).

A few weeks ago we got to the island about 11:00 and decided to rent a cart around 1:30-2:00. Had no problem getting one for the four of us for $32USD for 2 hours, which was plenty of time to go around the island and stop for quite a few pictures.
