Gran Melia - renovated? golf? beach?

I was member of this site several years ago but lost my login info. So reitroducing myself here = )

My wife and I are looking to head back to Cancun for the 5th time this summer. We have stayed at the Gran Melia about 7 years ago. We were pleased with the hotel. I've noticed that the pics on the hotel's website appear to show that the hotel has been renovated. Does anyone have any feedback on what it is like now?

A few other questions:

1. Also, I've heard golf is free and rental clubs are $25 for the day - is that accurate?

2. Last time I was there, there were volleyball nets set up and the beach was a good size and absolutely beautiful. Any of that changed in the last 7 years?

The last time we were in Cancun was 2009. We're so excited to go back. Our usual hotel preference is the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach....but we have friends going and are trying to stay more economical. We can stay 5 nights with airfare roundtrip for about $530/person from Atlanta. Seems like a great deal...especially if the Gran Melia is as nice as I remember it.
