Hey there, we stayed at GR Solaris in March during spring break. Firstly, you should try and book through HOTWIRE because they have some deal for a free room upgrade that we weren't aware of. When we got there, they brought us to a nice room with a jacuzzi which was a very nice surprise. We went knowing that food was bad but we were there to party and drink so we didnt think it would be a big deal. By the third night, we were dying for some good food. The pool area was fun and the swimup bar is pretty legit. I must say that the beach was awesome, water was warm and mostly calm but I didnt see any service so prepare to bring several drinks down. One CON i can remember is that their nightlife wasn't really good, everything was closed down by 1 the latest so be prepared to hit the strip up, 5minute bus ride and you have to take a 8-12 cab ride home.
As far as I know, you CANNOT go topless, were heading to Temptaion in Aug where that is permitted so you may want to check that out. All in all, we had a good time, staff was friendly, place was clean, drinks are good when you tip, food sucked, 24hr room service was nice, we won't head back there again but mainly because we want to try new places out. PM us if you have anymore questions

I just booked the GR Solaris for my gf and I yesterday, Sept. 2-7. I have been there before, so no big deal for us. I would say the food is pretty ok, with the best meals coming at their night time shows, Lobster tail, ect. Great pool and beach, solid place to stay! We are looking forward to september!

we stayed there in 2009....we didnt have anything to compare it to as it was our first time in mexico and at an all inclusive....food was about what we expected, you can find something you like and the breakfast is very good....room service is a good option but the food isnt very good then, seemed old and reheated....the formal restaurant is awesome, we ate there 4 out of our 7 nights....staff is friendly and they do a pretty good job....the hotel dies around 1am so that kinda sucked

my one complaint is that the pool activities are pretty boring

I am sure you will be able to go topless Tom. Curious to know if the girl can though.

Tom I think the gf can handle TTR. She doesn't have to go topless and you know it's just fun. besides with no public nudity now as in tequilla volleyball or in darts. It's now just a resort............right.

GR Solaris is a nice building with terrible food. Spend a little extra and go to Dreams and get great food and a lot better service.

No topless at Dreams. It is an upscale family resort that caters to Americans. It's owned by a Company in Newtown Sq, PA. Part of the Apple Vacations/ USA 3000 family.

I'm not trying to start trouble here, but it's funny how people can complain about the food. Same people who complain on TripAdvisor. The food isn't 5 star dinning, but it is FAR from terrible. I live in Chicago and like to think of myself as a food lover, and the food at the GR Solaris is pretty damn good. Again, just my opinion, and we are going back to the GR Solaris in september.

Thanks Tori!! My friend was asking since she was allowed to go topless in Rivera Maya last Sept. LOL It's all cool! A company in Newtown! Nice! I'm wondering way they didn't use USA3000 for the flights? I'm going Delta and they are about to fold..LOL

Been to Dreams Cancun twice, GR Solaris, and Riu Palace Mexico. As far as the food, Dreams gets a 9, Riu Palace Mexico a 7 and GR Solaris a 4. The food is that much better at Dreams.
As far as topless at Dreams, only saw 1 topless sunbather during the 5 days I was there last week on the Dreams beach. There were a few out at Riu Cancun and Riu palace Los Americas dowwn the beach a few hundred yards.

im with you...i (and the three others in our group) thought the reservation restaurant was wonderful and were willing to wait until 930 or 10 to eat (since we werent up bright and early to get good reservations)...we ate there 4 out of the 7 nights....

i think the problem comes in when you have been to other resorts and then compare that resort to this resort then the food might be "horrible"....but if you had a blind test i dont think you could tell...i actually give the gr a thumbs up over the italian place at ttr

We do agree with madbomber&EngGuy to some extent. By no means are we food snobs. The last thing we care about is food, but to be honest, the food there isn't great, thats just our our opinion...some people love it...who knows? This was our first resort in Cancun and we knew what to expect. We had a blast at GR, it's all what you make of it.

--- Never would we ever be that couple to post an awful review....GR is great, ull have a great time, the beach is awesome, have fun!
