I read in an earlier post about an ice skating rink going in at Plaza Las Americas. Just wondering if the rink is still there or if there are any ice skating rinks in the Cancun area? If there are does anyone know if it's real ice or the plastic ice? Being addicted to ice skating I was just wondering if I should bring my skates with me. Thanks

There is a real outdoor rink still open at the Outlet Plaza, former Paseo Cancun; directly behind the Soriana/Home Depot. Can't imagine their electricity bill.

Arizona Al: The rink Tori mentioned, is about the size of my bedroom... Werent they going to build a "decent" one a few years ago? It was named "Cancun Baazar" or similar? Doesn anyone know what happened to that project? This is some 4 years ago, lol.

I searched Google before I posted here but no luck in finding out if there was a rink there. I am guessing if the rink is outside it's that plastic ice. Maybe someone will have heard something.

I'm sorry, but it makes me laugh to think about people coming to Cancun for "winter sports".

Real ice. I was there last week. While it is not standard rink size, it's not too bad. I was a competitive skater back in the day and no complaints here. I also find it great that Cancun has it and has left it up in all this heat. Better roads is where the $ should be gong.... oh well!

V, go ahead and laugh. When it's 115 degrees in Phoenix the place to be is on the ice. ToriB, good to hear I won't be the only skater in Cancun. I use to do dance and skated 32 hours every week plus a full time job. A bad knee and ankle surgery took me out of serious skating. I only skate now for the enjoyment and exercise. I use to joke with visiting coaches who did not know me about having a problem with my Axel. Once they took the bait, I would say I am over rotating on my Quad Axel. They would usually just shake their head and walk away. Besides missing the skating I miss all my skating friends. I now live 90 miles away from the rink in Phoenix so I don't get to skate much anymore.

| I am at the Starbucks now where the ice rink is. My guess is that it is about 10m x 20m. And I confirm Tori's info that it is real ice. Now I just have to go there when she is skating in one of those cute little leotard thingies.

Thanks T.J. for the measurements. If I remember correct our rink was 80 feet by 200 feet. I think the rink there would be just too small to enjoy as a skater. It is probably fine for it's intended purpose.

I am sure my Dad held onto them. Don't bet even a dollar I would ever try and get back into one. It's never really crowded, and I have seen a few "skaters" trying out there tricks
