Visa/Maestro debit in Mexico?

Hey guys, did a quick search there but nothing popped up.

Just wondering if my girlfriends Visa debit card or my Maestro debit card will work in the atm machines over in Cancun?

It should work. I've used in my last visit to Cancun w/out any problems. BUT you must call your bank and/or your credit card company and let them know you'll be out of the country, in order for them to authorize your transacations...

Yeah it will work fine in the ATM's. I use my UK debit card regularly with no problem.

As mentioned above, let your card issuer know that you'll be using the card in Mexico before you travel otherwise it may well get blocked. Happened to my Mum when she visited us.

Got in touch with the bank today to let them know. They said my maestro should work at all atm's as its the same group as Mastercard so thats the problem sorted.

Although they did mention that it may not work in some shops depending on the individual place, however that wont matter as i was just planning on using my card at the atm anyhow.

FYI UK Debit cards were being blocked frequently when I was out there - unless your bank was informed before travelling.

Even then my UK Credit Card was blocked as well had to go through security on the phone with Tesco (even though they were told we were travelling).

I used my Metro Bank (www.metrobankonline.co.uk) Mastercard Debit all over Cancun with no currency or usage charges!!!!!
