| I will need to dial into the US every night. What is the least expensive method? Calling cards? Can they be used from a resort phone? Direct dial from resort? World Traveler plan on cell phone? its like .60 cents per minute. Anyone living in Cancun call the States regularly?

| One option is to rent a phone from Home - Cancun Valet although their price is .69 cents a minute so no cheaper than your own International plan. Definitely don't call from the phone in the hotel room it costs a fortune for International. Not sure about cost of calling cards, but using them in the street with a backdrop of traffic noise wont be much fun. Pretty sure they wont work from your hotel room phone. |

| I always suggest renting a phone from Cancun Valet. Most people don't have an International Calling Plan, although I think you can add and remove from your US phone. Probably the cheapest way to call is Skype from an Internet Cafe. Just bring a headset with a mic and you should be good to go.

| Or you could have your US provider give you instructions for a "SIM Unlock". They do this by email and it takes 24-48 hours once requested. Then, once here in Cancun, go to a Telcel store and buy a SIM card for (I think) $250 pesos and that includes $50 or $100 in credit. A call to the US is about $4.3 peso, or about $.35 US per minute, or fraction thereof. WITH THE CANCUN VALET PHONE, BY THE WAY, THE BILLING IS PER SECOND SO A 30 SECOND CALL ONLY COSTS HALF OF $.69 US PER MINUTE. You can add credit to your Telcel chip at any convenience store. The more you buy the greater the value. $100 = $100, but $500 = $900 and there are increments of $200 and $300. I have a plan with Telcel and I think if you buy the prepaid credits, you have to buy the prepaid, scratch off Amigo Card and enter the code to get your credit.

| Cancun valet works for me when i'm in cancun. In January it was $5 usd per day and that fee meant i could make 7 minutes of calls per day with out an extra charge ($5 divided by $.69) i did tip hugo for delivering and picking up the phone. i was totally satisfied with this service. i'm not cell phone literate and when i called cancun valet with a problem, he solved it immediately on the phone. the problem of course was due to my cell phone illiteracy. |
