Default Cancun three weeks in Feb where to stay

My wife and I will be going to Cancun next spring form 10 Feb. to 29 Feb I' m wondering is worth while staying in all inclusive or just getting a hotel room and enjoying different restaurants.
We are foodies, so we experience all type of foods. This is our first to Cancun but not Mexico.
Also this is high season so I would like to book early so any advice would be great.
Thank you.
Willy

I would suggest going the AI route, especially if you like to drink. You can always eat somewhere else if you get the urge.

Oh, and where to stay for AI, we really liked the Omni's pool, and we've also heard good things about the Riu. If you cannot afford the Omni or Riu, you could always stay at the Flamingo Cancun. No frills, and a McDonald's, Margaritaville, Bubba Gump, and Outback directly across the street, not to mention the mall. If you don't like to drink a lot, you could get the European Plan at Flamingo and eat across the street every night.

A friend of mine stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Las Americas and he said it was a top-notch resort, with great food, great pools, and great rooms. I am not sure about the RIU Caribe resort.

I suggest you to choose a small cosy hotel and to enjoy all the local restaurants and amusements. If you prefer all inclusive hotel- I have heard that hotel Riu Palace is really awesome!

I will also look at that option. I plan to rent a car so that we have more ease to move around. I want to go to Puerto Morelos, Merida etc so I think having a car wil lhelp.
I speak fluent spanish and have lived in many central and south America places so I'm looking forward to enjoying Mexico.

In that case, I can only wish you the best time ever which I am sure it will! Speaking Spanish is a great advantage for you because when my sister was there for her honeymoon she had some troubles understanding with the locals! Have a wonderful vacation!

I have stayed at all the RIU. I suggest Riu Cancun it is in the heart of Cancun. You can walk to everthing. You can also go to the RIU Caribe with your AI band. You can not go to the RIU Palace (Las Americans). I stayed there not worth the extra money but if the price is right that is good also.
