| CANCUN/PLAYA TRIP REPORT - DAY 7 WEDNESDAY Another pic of our room ... ![]() I was determined to get at least ONE sunrise picture, so I had set the alarm for 6 a.m. When the alarm rang I hurried to shut it off, I didn't want to wake Norb. I quickly got dressed, grabbed the camera, and decided to peek out the drapes. Just my luck ... it's raining! So I jumped back into bed until 7:45 a.m. We got up, and the rain had stopped ... YAHOO! Got ready for the day, and went to the Spices restaurant for breakfast ... ![]() I had scrambled eggs and hash brown potatoes with my mimosa, and Norb had a waffle, bacon and fruit. It looked like another beautiful day! But first, I want to show you around the Royal Porto Real. Walking into the Lobby Bar ... ![]() Beautiful ... ![]() Yes, there are beds in the Lobby Bar, if you just hafta have a nap while drinking ... ![]() The bar, with big t.v.'s ... ![]() Which fancy drink should I order? ... ![]() Norb enjoying a drink, behind him are a few pool tables ... ![]() There was a small stage at one end of the Lobby Bar for the nightly band. And there were plenty of couches and comfy chairs to sit and relax. Every afternoon they served tea, too! Down the stairs from the lobby is the Tequila and Cigar bar, at night this bar was hopping ... ![]() ... and sculptures and waterfall near the restaurants ... ![]() There's a Spa and a Beauty Salon ... ![]() The gym was well quipped ... ![]() There was a big Gift Shop ... ![]() The Royal Porto Real also has a 24 HOUR SNACK BAR off the lobby. This was something I have never seen at other hotels. There are pool tables ... ![]() C'mon ... let me beat you with a stick ... ![]() Ping Pong tables ... would you prefer to be paddled? ![]() A few plasma t.v.'s with lots of seating ... ![]() Food, food and more food, all fresh and constantly replenished. Cold cuts, cheeses, olives, cookies, etc. ... ![]() You are guaranteed to gain weight staying here ... ![]() Also, there is a "HELP YOURSELF" bar with top shelf liquor, soda, juice, coffee, tea. There was Jack Daniel's, Bacardi's, Absolut, Crown Royal, Bailey's, Smirnoff, Johnny Walker, Kahlua, wines ... ![]() And, outside the door is a big balcony where you can sit and enjoy your snacks in the sunshine, if you wish ... ![]() The Royal Porto Real is truly luxurious! Everything you could possibly want is right here. Time to take a walk. There was a small wedding going on in the gazebo ... ![]() The gorgeous pool ... ![]() Another view of the pool ... ![]() Looking toward the blue, blue water ... ![]() Heading toward Mamita's and the Shangri La ... ![]() Hola! :wavey: Waving at the webcam ... ![]() Did you see us? We walked through the Shangri La hotel, thinking we'd like to stay there some day ... ![]() They have one of the best beaches I have ever seen. The Shangri La ... ![]() We LOVE Playa, it's so beautiful here, less congested, more serene ... ![]() It was getting quite warm, so we decided to get a taxi back to the RPR. We were crossing the street, when ... ![]() Oh No! ... Run, Norb, run! Whew! ... Norb's okay ... Those crazy cab drivers! On 5th Avenue I spotted this mother and son eating an ear of corn. I asked if I could take their picture, and she said "si", and after I took the picture I gave her some money, and she smiled ... ![]() They were soooo cute, they both had corn all over their faces! We went back to the RPR, and lounged for a while on the beach ... ![]() Oh no, too much to drink again! ... ![]() It was such a great day, sunny and warm. All too soon it was time to get ready for dinner. We went to the buffet restaurant tonight, but you can order from a menu if you don't want the buffet. We ordered from the menu. First we both ordered tortilla soup. Norb had grilled salmon, and I had jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon ... ![]() For dessert we ordered the banana flambe and Spanish coffee ... ![]() Everything was so yummy! The only thing we didn't like at the RPR were the chicken sandwiches we had one day for lunch at Pelicanos. Everything else we ate was delish! After dinner it was getting late, and we had to start packing, so we went back to our room. We started to pack, before drowning our sorrows in the jacuzzi ... ![]() We were being picked up at 8 a.m., so it was time for some sleep. ~ TOMORROW ~ PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME GO :-o |

| thanks Janie...its one of my favorites We had borrowed a friends scuba diving camera for our trip...and thats what we used. It was a digital with an awesome housing...people were looking at it everywhere we were because we were tromping through the water with it.....because it looked like a normal camera from the distance. We had a ton of pictures in the pools and ocean...I think I have a total of over 500 pictures of that trip.

| Janie, Awesome trip report! We have enjoyed reading all your amazing trip reports. My husband and I arrive in Cancun at the JW Marriott on Dec 31 for 3 nights, and then to RPR for 7 nights. You have really help us with a lot of information about the RPR. We have an oceanview request and was wondering if you would recommend a good room or building location. Did you enjoy eating at the Buffet with the menu option as much as the ala carte restraunts? Glad to hear you had such at awesome time on your trip! Sharon |

| Sharon, thank you so much! We were in room 251, and we thought it was wonderful! I think any room facing the pool and beach would be great. We thought the Spices restaurant was very nice, although Maria Marie was our favorite. The food was very good at all the restaurants. Please post a trip report when you get back, I'd love to hear YOUR opinion! 10 nights? I'm jealous! |
