Default british girls staying at gran melia

we'rea group of british girls studying in the states atm that have just booked to stay in the gran melia for spring break. haven't seen much on this hotel, but it looks nice from the website. and we're hoping it will be somewhere to relax in the day, before we go out to party at night.

ive heard taxis are dangerous is this true? we wouldn't get them alone... they're just so much easier than busses.

been on plenty of 18-30 holidays in europe, is spring break in cancun a similar atmosphere?

heard david guetta is playin the 23rd march. will we need tickets before we fly out? or can we buy them once we're in cancun. saw him in ibiza last year and we were able to buy tickets once we were out there.

ahhhhhh. on an absolute buzz for this. usually have to wait 7 months before we can party in the sun.

I guess some can compare Cancun to Cyprus and Ibiza but its a different vibe for sure.

Cabs aren't dangerous but do negotiate a price before getting into the cab. Ride the bus if you are unsure.

Gran Melia is a great hotel with tons of amenities and you can get day passes to the Oasis/Be Live right next door.

Get the Guetta passes during the day you will see people selling the tickets at a discount promising "vip privileges" They might let you cut the line but i doubt it.

British girls? Wow, out of all my years to Cancun, I think I've only met 2 of those. Usually it's British dudes bring their whole football team, entire male side of the family, and all their guy neighbors to Cancun.

Gran Melia seems pretty decent. Fletch (another fellow CC moderator) and Chad (a CC vet and an all American boy) will be staying there March 11-18. Definitely try to get in touch with them if you are going around the same time. I'm sure they'll be able to show you how Spring Break is done.

Taxi always seems safe to me and I take them a lot. There is only one big road going up and down Hotel Zone so it's not like they can take you anywhere else. If you go downtown, it may get a little more complicated. Just stay in Hotel Zone and you should be fine. Taxi from clubs to Gran Melia will probably cost 130-150peso metered. But if you negotiate before getting in the cab, you can easily get it down to 100pesos, or even less if you are patiently aggressive.

The crowd in Cancun during spring break will be very similar to Ibiza during the summer. There will probably be a higher concentration of 18-22 in Cancun because it's college spring break. The clubs are all concentrated in one area so you won't have to take the bus/cab all over the island at night like in Ibizia. Music there unfortunately will be very American pop/mainstream. There will be some but not that much electronic dance music.

You don't need get tickets beforehand. Everything can be arranged and negotiated once you are there.

You're going to make me blush with that kind of talk. Seems like more and more are booking the Melia. Should be a good time. I noticed the grandfather of the forum has shown back up as well. He did the same thing last year and never showed his face. Maybe we'll see a different Dennis this year.

The grape Three Olives with Grape Pucker, and white cranberry juice, and something else.. I can't think of it right now, makes a drink & it taste just like grape gatorade!

Sorry i am with nuno on this one. . . . grey goose is the drink of the gods! I will be bringing a bottle of 2 with me. How much is a bottle of the goose over your side of the pond?

Also out of pure intrest, being so close to Cuba can you get any of the famous cuban cigars in town?

Also princess have you tried flavoured grey goose?

Vodka is NOT cheaper in Cancun. Cheapest place to buy vodka would be your departure airport's duty free shop in the US. Second cheapest place to buy would be at Cancun airport duty free shop (which is probably the one of the few airports in the world where you can buy duty free shit without an outbound boarding pass). Vodka in hotel zone will cost an arm and a leg.

I'm pretty sure the liquor at duty free in Cancun cost the same.

Speaking of which, particularly due to non-all inclusive, we need to get 2-3 bottles each, so we need to organize who should get what, and where. Seth and I will probably have to get ours at the Cancun airport, I don't know if Bradley even has a duty free shop. We can get that much liquor each when we're inbound, right?

I think it's slightly cheaper in the US's duty free but it's like a couple dollars per bottle so not really noticeable.

I don't think they ever check for amount of alcohol you bring in through customs. Cancun airport is a very relaxed airport (besides the ridiculously long line to get in and out). I always bring in 3-4 bottles of goose no problem. Worst case, ask the girls you picked up at the airport to bring a couple bottles in for you.

Last year we brought over 10 bottles between two people with no issues

Yes u can get cubans down there but buy from places that guarantee them to be authentic like walmart. Don't buy them from that guy on the beach.

Been reading a fair amount, but have been pretty busy trying to finish a project...damn work!

A few things...Three Olives Bubble Gum + sprite is tasty (although not something I would necessarily order in a bar). Had a holiday party in December - we went through a shitload of beer, a dozen bottles of wine, multiple egg nogs with the requisite Cabin Fever and other goodies...but went through an entire handle of the bubble gum. People loved it, to say the least...

Hartford airport: pretty sure that there is no duty free shop. We are lucky enough that they now have the Black Bear Saloon (and not just McD's and the "Last Resort")...

Cuban cigars: there is a Cuban Restaurant (La Bodeguita del Medio) across the street from McDonald's in the club area. I recommend the appetizers and mojitos there. Attached is a place for Cuban cigars. Not cheap, but fresh and assuredly the real thing. Do not buy them from the beach vendors, at the markets, etc...as Nuno says.

It's been a few years but I remember the first time I went to Cancun not knowing about anything. We went to the liquor store to try to buy a bottle of Smirnoff and saw the price tag which was the equivalent of at least an Absolute (maybe even close to a Goose) in the States. We were like WTF and proceeded to buy a handle of Barcardi instead.
