So I had the idea today after finding out that cell phones wont really work in Cancun without ridicolous charges to spend like 100-200 bucks on walkie talkies. Found place to get pairs of them for 20 so 10 each with a 12 mile radius. I think it be great for any guys or girls me and my friends meet and party with and that we like to give them a walkie talkie so that we can all meet up and chill at a later point. Im in cancun for 2 weeks so even handing out one a day to group of people we meet or w.e so that they have option to hit us up to go to same club or w.e

Don't be that guy Cell phones work everywhere and every cell phone company offers a Mexico travel plan which makes it pretty cheap to use down there.

| I tried that my first year. It was a fail. The range is never as good as advertised. Nobody wants to carry it out. Cell phone is better.

It's pretty much a waste anyways, I kept one in my purse for emergencies and as soon as I got to the club, the doorman confiscated it and said I could get it back at the end of the night. Try remembering to do that after you've drank yourself to oblivion. I ended up forgetting about it lol Besides we never ended up using them anyways. We would always just plan ahead with people where to meet and when just like the old school days before everyone had cells and it always worked out okay. If you need to call back home, I just bought a phone card, it was cheaper than adding international calling to my cell plan.

bbm uses data plan (whereas sms is part of voice plan because it uses an older technology) so it's a lot cheaper. An sms is limited to 160 characters each and will cost you $0.20-0.50 (depending on carrier and plan) out of the country. bbm is just like any instant messager. There is no limit per message and sending plain text through data plan. A 160 message through data plan will only be 0.2kb and it usually cost $0.002-$0.015/kb for international data roaming. Basically, it costs nothing comparing to sending txt. Just make sure if you have your data roaming on, you don't send/download pictures/videos. Those will cost you an arm and a leg.

i disagree with MIT being the nerdiest, probley Cal Tech is. MIT might be full of geniuses but they party like no other, I have tons of friends who go to BU and BC and the girls all go to MIT frat parties cause they are way better than the parties at their own schools

OR you can just buy a prepaid cellphone in Cancun. the local variety store OXXO carries samsungs and nokia's. They cost 300 pesos ($30 US) and come with 300 pesos of airtime or textn. To send or receive a text is only 1 peso. Buy the phone and get the airtime for free. Best Deal Yet!!!
