When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Use pesos.

I would agree with Henry because I find it annoying when people dont use Canadian currency when they are up here, however, I am hopeless at converting so I use USD in Cancun. I might get ripped off a couple dollars here and there but I try not to worry too much about money down there...until I run out

The peso is your friend. Can and usd are about 12.3 to 1 right now, use simple math in pesos and think 10 pesos per dollar and you'll have a good general idea of cost.

Default U.S or Pesos

Hey all,

What would be the wiser thing to do with the exchange rate and currency being used in Mexico..would getting cash converted to pesos be the smarter thing to do?

Thanks

Just get pesos and take your bank card when you need extra cash (tell your bank). There really isn't a compelling reason you need to go the effort of getting USD as a Canadian (it's not even worth that much any more)!

Tipping in dollars is more powerful in cancun. It is like the difference between moet and laurent perrier. Lol

Default Dollars or Peso's? INFO PLEASE!

Hi there,

My vacation to Cancun is fast approaching and my UK travelagents (Thomas Cook) have called me saying that in Cancun they now prefer the Peso as most clubs and bars wont accept Dollars?

Is this the case?

It;s not i dont trust them but i prefer to hear it from someone who is either in Cancun already or is due to go....or someone who knows a bit more!!

Thanks

Do people not understand the concept of search? This is the 4th thread about the same topic. I'm getting tired of merging them.

Apols, no real need to stress, Was a simple question, granted a search would have been the best practice.

Bear in mind for future.

Im unsure what to do now, Would you suggest just changing Sterling into Peso or what?!?!?!?

I sure as hell am not changing Sterling to dollars just to tip and also change sterling into Peso to spend.....

Think i should prob just take either Dollar or Peso.

UK Pound is worth 18.21 peso
UK pound is worth $1.57

Any ideas people

i'm just doing the peso, keep everything simple. Money is money if they accept many forms i'm just gonna take the path of least resistance.

Hell yeah,

Im sure they will accept a tip in Peso?

Failing that may just change couple hundred sterling for US dollars worst ways.

Cheers

The reason we tip in US is because they can exchange it for a much better rate locally than we can, psychologically it seems like a much much bigger tip. my opinion anyways

Then you do not understand the power of tipping in cancun. You will soon learn when your waiting an hour for a drink.

So at Oasis, it's hard to get drinks from the swim-up pool or just regular bars without handing out a tip every time?

Same thing in the clubs?

I don't mind tipping, but I will be there for 5 nights and I don't want to be tipping each drink if I am going to be partying all day. No point of going all-inclusive if thats the case!

Tip big early, more than likely, they'll remember you.

By this you mean, first day at the Oasis, hand the bartender over $20 tip. Am I good for the day or am I good for the week?

The clubs I assume are the same as it is in the US. If you want good drinks, tip upfront and they will hook you up. The part that is confusing to me is the resort. I've been to breezes before in the Bahamas and you could ask them for a cup full of rum and they had no problem giving you it. I tried to tip a couple of times but they said they weren't allowed to take it, so I am a little unsure how it works in Cancun.
