My Trip Report (Barcelo Tucancun.... May 23-30)

ahhhh... I've been back for almost a week now and am still bitter about being home. I'm gona keep this trip report short as I'm going 100% by memory and alotta the days were the same thing.


Day 1 (Wednesday, May 23): Left here for Boston at 3:00 AM. Everything went smoothly and on time..... Flight left from Boston for Charlotte at 615.... then Charlotte to Cancun for 11:30. Made it through Customs, got our bags and we were on our way. Entertainment Plus did a great job picking us up. And we were at the Barcelo Tucancun for 12:30. We couldn't check in so we hung around, had drinks, went in the pool, and had lunch for 3 hours. Finally, we hung out in our room from 3-6. Went to dinner at the buffet and then to the lobby bar for a few hours. Finally, it was late and we decided to walk around the city for a while. "Scope" things out and then we went to bed by midngiht as it was a hell of a long day.

Day 2 (Thursday, May 24): We got up late... 10:30. Didn't leave the room till about noon. We went to lunch and then spent the day at the beach/pool as it was a beautiful day. Before we knew it, it was time to go to our room and get ready for dinner/going out. We ate at the spanish buffet, which wasn't bad and then went to the lobby bar till about 10:30 pm. After all day planning on going to the Foam Party, we decided to switch up and try to go to a club like Daddy Rock or Coco Bongo. On the bus ride there, we met a club promoter who told us what was happening and showed us where to go (even tohugh we didn't need it.) He took us past the line at Dady Rock and actually got us to a VIP table right in front of the stage. He hooked us up good and we got a front row look at the booty shaking contest and wet t-shirt contest (Too bad my girlfriend came with me or else I would have gotten some nice pics.) Rained pretty hard when we were going to the club but we didnt care.

Day 3 (Friday, May 25): Woke up around 10:30 again after a crazy night.... Made it to breakfest at 11:30 and then went to meet up with a few of my girlfriend's friends at the La Isla Plaza Mall around noon. It was a dumb meetup place though as it was too big to find them so my gf & i just continued to walk around and visit some of the stores till about 2/2:30. Went back to the hotel, and hung out at the beach/pool till about 3:30 when it started pouring. It continued to rain all night, and so the 4 of us (me, my girlfriend, my cousin and her boyfriend) just hung out in our rooms after dinner as we were all exhausted. My girlfriend fell asleep by 10....

Day 4 (Saturday, May 26): Woke up earlier then usual, so we had breakfest by 11. Same routine as the other days...... Pool/beach till about 4 when it started to rain AGAIN. Went to dinner at 7 since we had reservations at the Mexican restaurant. Food was really good..... had Chicken Fajitas. We then went to the lobby bar for the night, played poker and drank. Even though it was one of the simpler nights of the vacation, this was definetly one of my favorites..... We went back to the rooms around 11 when my cousin was getting a little out of control.

Day 5 (Sunday, May 27): Woke up sometime between 10:30 and 11 probably. Went to breakfest..... then went to the Flea Market in the city near where all the clubs are. This was an event as I got offered drugs close to 20 times in about one hour ("Yo man... I got party supplies for you."). My girlfriend eventually got her shot glass and we were on our way back to the hotel for the usual routine...... Until it rained again around 3-4 pm. My cousin and her boyfriend spent the day at the Chichen Itza from 7 am- 4 pm. When they got back, they said they started to feel really sick. We met up though and went to the spanish buffet. After dinner, none of us really felt like doing anything so we just hung out in the lobby bar for a little while and then our rooms.

Day 6 (Monday, May 28): Woke up same time as usuall..... went to breakfest..... and then usual routine of beach, pool and a late lunch. It rained again for a little while. We went to dinner again at the buffet, and my cousin's boyfriend, Jim, didn't even leave the room for the day. He actually called home and called a colon specialist he was so sick. He got a very bad case of Montezuma's Revenge.... They think it was from the food at the Chichen Itza, as they ate a bunch of different kinds of food. My girlfriend & I were hungry by 10 pm, so we ventured a little around the city. After taking lots of pictures of the live statues, and walkign around the mall that has the Hard Rock Cafe, we decided to eat at My Place. I recognized it from all the mention of it from this site, and so we gave it a try.... I was very impressed with the overall atmosphere of the place. It was nice to see a place like this amongst all the huge clubs in Cancun. We got nachos and my gf had a huge magarita and we were there for about an hour. Even met the club owner, Steve..... I will definetly go back to this place in the future.

Day 7 (Tuesday, May 29): Final full day in Cancun.... We did nothing differently during the day. We did go back to the La Isla Plaza for little souvenirs to bring back home. At night, we got reservations again at the mexican restaurant. Had the same thing I had last time (If its not broke, don't fix it...). At night, we finally decided to go out to a club again. We chose Senor Frogs and we had a great time. It was a Madi Gras party and definetly was worth the 40 dollars we paid for admission. We went home around 2.

Day 8 (Wednesday, May 30): This had to be one of the longest days of my life. We woke up around 11..... We originally thought that we were being picked up at 12:30 but I had misread it and we were actually being picked up at 11:45 so we had to rush through getting checked out and beign ready downstairs. We got to the Cancun airport around noon and waited in line till 1:30 at the US Airways Check-In. Cousin's boyfriend lost his Mexican Tourism Card and so he had to go to immigration. We all made the boarding of the plane oon last call at around 2:05 and we left at about 2:30. Flight made it to Charlotte at 6:30 and everything goes smoothly through customs and we figure were on our way back home to Boston...... until we find it out our plane had been delayed for 3 hours due to maintenance and we won't depart for Boston till 10:35. This sucks and so we hung around the airport for a longgggg time..... and eventually made it to Boston for 12:30 and at my house for 1.


Some other info...


- Our room was nice. We had a corner room so we had a great view of the city, the lagoon and the beach.
- The food at the buffet was very average. We were sick of it by Sunday as it was the same every day for lunch (I dont wanna eat hot dogs for a while now....)
- I will definetly go back to Cancun... but probably not this hotel. We liked it, but they are alot of hotels I'd prefer to go to again then this one...
- Beach was in good shape... there is a slope but its not a huge one. I took lots of pictures of the beach and the beaches of a few other hotels.... there in my pictures.
- I wish I went to the clubs more.... But its a different situation when you go with your girlfriend and not your friends.

rain alot huh? now it gets me worry, i'll be leaving in three weeks.. i hope it doesnt rain. hows the weather? extremely hot?

There was actually rain at some point in the day for 7 days in a row. But we still got lots of sun as the rain didnt usually stay too long and was later in the day/night. There were some days that were extremely hot.....

I still wouldn't worry about the weather too much though... I'm sure youll get more then enough sun.
