Default A Canadian Rant "I am Canadian"

I am a Canadian: The new version...

I AM CANADIAN
I am in the minority in Calgary,
Vancouver , Toronto
and every casino in this country..

I was born in the forties, fifties or
sixties, yet I am somehow responsible for some First Nations people
being screwed out of their land in the 1700's!
I pay import tax on cars made in Ontario

I am allowed to skydive and smoke, but
not allowed to drive without a seat belt.

All the money I make until mid July must
go to paying taxes..

I live and work among people who believe
Americans and Canadians are Ignorant....
These same people cannot name their own country's new territory.

Although I am sometimes forced to live
on hamburgers and don't have a pot to piss in,
I sleep well knowing that my taxes
helped purchase a nice six figure home in Vancouver for some unskilled
refugee.

Although they are unpatriotic and
constantly try to separate...
Quebec still provides most of my
nation's prime ministers.

95% of my nation's international
conflicts are over fish.

I'm supposed to call black people
African Canadians,
although I'm sure none of them have ever
been to Africa for that matter.
I am being told that paying a 200% tax
on alcohol is fair.

I am also being told that the same tax
on gasoline is also fair.

Even if I have no idea what happened to
that old rifle my
Grandfather gave me when I was 14, I
will be considered a criminal if I don't register it.

I am being told that spending $15
billion to promote the French language in the rest of Canada is fair
when the province of Quebec doesn't support or even recognize the
ENGLISH language.

I am being told that paying $1 million
for 3 Stripes ('The Voice of Fire' painting in Ottawa)
by the National Art Gallery was a good
purchase, even though 99% of this country didn't want it or will ever
see it.

When I look at my pension and realize
that I take home a third of what I actually make, I say
'Oh well, at least we have better health
care than the U.S.A..'

I must bail out big corporations who
drive their business into the ground and say,
'yeah that's ok.'
And When they move all their manufacturing
plants and jobs to a third world country and say,
'no problem.'

I must fork over my portion of the 11.5
million dollars to show the Queen of England and her family a good
time visiting in my country even though I can't afford to visit the
province next to me.

Canada is the highest taxed nation in
North America, the biggest Military buffer for the United States, and
the number one destination for fleeing terrorists.

The Lord's prayer is not allowed in our
schools anymore because of other religions who chose to move here.
I am an angry white person.

I am one pissed off taxpayer, who is broke
I am Canadian !!! My name is Ben Dover ... say it fast!!!

You know we could very easily insert the word American for Canadian and Spanish for French. Sounds like our side of the river.

Yeah, but you know what's really scary? Think of the dumbest most out of touch person you know. Now realize that their vote counts the same as yours.

You mean it's not a utopia north of the boarder?????

You would think about all the "observations" made from up there that it was. Now I know that it because you all have so much experience with the crap we have going on down here.

Guess once again the grass only looks greener on the other side.

Swingers get a discount on everything based on age (21 years old 21% Discount - 65 Years Old 65% Discount
Canada's Wonderland would be owned by Canadians
Hwy 407 would be owned by Canadians
Slow down Immagration and start taking care of our own
Union's would be a thing of the past
Minimum wage is $15 straight across the board
Better health care and less waiting times

What else needs to change in Canada, Im starting to sounds like a politician

How about that new pedestrian bridge in downtown Calgary Bruce? For the life of me I can't figure out what the hell made council think that a red lattice straw shaped bridge that really went to no good spot on Memorial was a good idea.

Goverment releases limits the land at a rate maintains the outrageous prices when you have to drive 3 hours of nothing but bush land. That way if you keep the people broke and in debt they have to work! So we work our asses off for a couple weeks holidays a year ! Buut look out as we are going to party hard, live life to the fullest on thos days off ! smiles and winks ! Remenber no body knows ya and no body give a shit !!!!

I feel your pain, I lived there from 2002 to 2006. I couldn't imagine how I could afford to move back there. I'm actually drilling a few water wells along the LaLoche road southeast of town as I am typing this. I sure hope that the people who lost their place in that big fire this morning in town get helped out!

Try buying a house in Vancouver! $1.4M for a tear-down bungalow...ouch! My 2-bedroom condo 5 minutes from downtown doubled in value between 2003 and 2008 to $700K. It's just NUTS here and we don't even have any oil!

I think you hit the nail on the head here, keep us broke and in debt so we have to work our asses off. My company gave me a bonus this year for all my hard work and dedication.. the government took over 39% of it, so I guess they got a bonus also

Alison Redford, our provincial premier in Alberta, saw fit to bring in legislation allowing the police to take your vehicle and suspend your drivers licence if your blood alcohol level is as low as .05%.

I know a lot of jurisdictions have similar laws. But here are the stats.

20 out of 100 fatality traffic accidents involve alcohol.

Of those 20, 16 involve a blood alcohol level above .11%.

The majority involve a blood alcohol level .12% to .22%. Interestingly the stats drop off considerably beyond .22%, presumably because the individuals are aware that they are "too drunk to drive".

So, statistically only 4 out of 100 fatal traffic accidents involve blood alcohol levels of .05% or less. And that is not to say that this had a direct correlation to the cause of the accident.

It seems to me that:

1) Governments are bending to special interest groups in passing legislation of this sort.

2) They are targeting the wrong people! If you want to reduce fatalities involving alcohol, increase the penalties for levels above .12%.

3) Even then you are only dealing with less than 16 out of 100 fatalities. Shouldn't we be looking at the causes for the other 80% not involving alcohol?

This legislation has a severe impact on the restaurant industry and causes a lot of worry amongst people that would like to have a glass of wine or beer or two with friends over dinner.

It's typical of how governments operate these days. Restrict freedoms to win the support of special interest groups.

We have an election coming up in Alberta.

There is a .05% chance I will be voting for the Conservatives this time around.

Passed the same law in Ontario... I feel like I'm gambling almost every day now. I know a few people fighting it as the Federal tolerance is .08

Not sure if you misquoted your stats or your summary. If it's your summary, the numbers make the law even more ridiculous...

"20 out of 100 fatality traffic accidents involve alcohol.

Of those 20, 16 involve a blood alcohol level above .11%."

Which means 4 of every 100 fatal accidents involve an alcohol level below .11%.

Of those four, how many are above .08 and how many are below .08, but above .05?

And does it really matter? Realistically, should an accident with a blood level of .05 be counted as a alcohol related accident? My professional opinion as someone with a BAL well over .05 most days of the week is no, the accident probably would of happened anyway.

Sounds like the buyer may have been acting as a proxy for someone with a large amount of cash they needed to get rid of....

Surely a mortgage company/building society wouldn't have been impressed with this deal....
