Default Baby Waste's 1st BDay

I know the updates have been few and far between... ok, so this is the first one... I'm sorry.

His Bday is on the 21st, but the party was on the 24th... To have some sort of celebration on the day of, we did pre-party a little... Here he is with his first sweet ever

For all those that remember Shawn, his brother's daughter is born 3 days after Baby Waste. To save our friends from having to give up two back to back weekends for 1st bday parties, we had a joint event. Here's the boy's table and cake. Notice the Toronto Maple Leaf's goalie is a princess

The chick table was the liquor table. As I would hate to ever have a picture of a 3'x6' table decorated in a pink Happy First Birthday table cloth over flowing with booze used against me, you will have to use your imagination. But here is her princess cake... Again, notice a Toronto Maple Leaf player

Here's the mum's and birthday babies

Me and the birthday babies... I was giving Shawn's brother a hard time how Baby Waste is already poking his daughter

The guys served the cakes for the babies. Then we were forced to pose for family pics. After the first picture was snapped, I smothered my gf's face with a "little" cake. I guess since only the chicks were armed with cameras, my actions weren't funny enough to warrant a picture... but, when she steals my idea and uses it against me, it's hilarious :?

After all the gifts were done... it was time to have most of the 30 some people clear out of my house. The first 1.5 hours were fun, then it started feeling like a daycare... Here's an updated pic of Shawn and family

and Baby Shawn getting his loot bag

Baby Waste in his favortie position

Baby Waste and his new car

...helping me build his new chair...

...trying out his new chair...

Remarks:
- Those couches aren't mine. They moved in with the gf. I have a plan. They will be gone by next year. I know I said that last year, but this year I'm even more determined. Any comments on the couches will be deleted.

Again, sorry for the lack of updates. I promise to update at least once before his 21st bday.

Thank you... Next time, just call when you're in the neighborhood, and maybe you'll even get to meet her

Only when he needs to... a quick couple steps here and there to get my cell phone and the TV remote, but that's pretty much it. He's using a couple words, but again, only when he feels he has to.

Give him some time, I'm still working on it... He shows great promise of living up to the Waste family name.

That's right, it took you that long to get Todd's pic up in your avatar...

Well now that he's going to BBG, I figured I'd throw him in there too.

He's been on my myspace page for a year tho!

Just another 20 short years we'll have baby waste at BBG too and then I'll have someone else to spill on

awwwwww too cute!!!

He is at the perfect age to learn sign language you know?! I do home daycare for now (can't beat the $) and I teach it to all of my kids. The words we use most are: more, please, thank you, drink, hungry, stop, yes, and of course no. At this age, they will probably do a 'modification' of the true sign, but you constantly repeat the correct sign and say the word at the same time, their motor skills will increase and they will get better and more accurate.

Here is a website I use that is targeted especially for young ones and sign language: www.signingtime.com If you go to Vocabulary scroll down into the Episode 1-6 and look at the vocabulary tables, and it will show you how to do the words I listed above, as well as a ton of others. If you cruise around the site, you will find tips and strategies for teaching your child.

Sorry this became such a book to read...I just know it really helps the kids communicate at this age..

20 years? He's already showing signs of being like Dad... very persistent and doesn't like no for an answer... I give him 17 years before he writes his first BBG trip report

It wasn't me... you're not getting off that easy. I still call her the gf... or in the ideal social situation, she is sometimes referred to as My Baby's Mama

Just because I don't argue it anymore, doesn't mean you're getting off that easy!

Thanks. With my cuteness expiring at the young age of 5, mom's his only hope in the looks department...

Not likely. Hopefully as he grows up, he will acquire a true appreciation for hockey. Understanding the game, the strategies and unbiased sense of fairness for the sport. As the rules of the sport depreciate over time with regulation overtimes, shootouts, etc... it will be difficult, but I am hopefull.

With teams like Montreal, Calgary and Boston, the old Blackhawks and potentially what the Penguins are becoming, hopefully there will still be something left to appreciate from this great sport. As the game continues to change, it may no longer be an option. That said, being a Jersey fan will never be as bad as being a leaf fan.

Thanks for the info. We did discuss teaching him to sign. We were planning on starting at 3-4 months old, but then decided against it. We consulted a few specialists in the field and decided the cons outweighed the pros. Although most specialists agreed that signing did encourage infants to communicate at a younger age, many also argued the downside as well. In the end, we decided that although the studies against signing are still fairly recent and many of the results are still in-conclusive, we didn't want to take the risk.

cool. We taught our oldest, who is now 9 years old, some of the basic things I listed above...but really didn't go any further...however, she had a huge vocabulary at very young age...signing was just fun for her, she spoke very clearly and didn't really need to sign. She just liked the reaction she got from other family/friends when she would do it. She gets high "A's" in school...and hasn't seem to have affected her at all that I can tell.

Thats my personal study on one child

Also cool. If we would of had more information as well as more accurate case studies over longer periods of time, specifically case studies that focus on living environments and not just results, we probably would of been a lot more decisive one way or the other. We based our decision on the little real world data available. Although we were shown a lot of positive results, we were also shown some negative results. There was no way of telling if the negative results accounted for 5% of infants or 50% of infants. We basically decided that we didn't have enough information to make a decision.
