Default Watching the Atlantic

Things have hotted up there, recently, and now the storms are being churned out one after the other. Two named storms are currently out there, Earle and Danielle. Invest 97L, the latest, is mid Atlantic, at the moment: a single computer model shows it moving in this general direction, the others all show it heading a bit more to the north, but the season is clearly upon us now and the Atlantic bears keeping an eye on.

Default Fiona

Our little storm, Invest 97L, now has a name, and a charming name it is, Fiona.

All but one computer model has it turning to the north, but model BAMD has it hitting the Yucatan Peninsula, a week from now.

Don't worry about Earl............Up in Massachusetts - WE ARE....WORRIED.!! As the track of Earl IS going to brush right by us up here.... Forecast is for heavy rains and winds of possibly upto 60 MPH (100 KPH)............

Default Bamd, bamm

The computer model, BAMD, continues to show Fiona heading for the Yucatan: it has now been joined by the model BAMM in making the prediction that Fiona will turn west.

The majority of models continue to show Fiona turning to the north, as Danielle and Earl have done.

And yet another storm is now forming in the midAtlantic: they are rolling out of Africa now one after the other, just like freight cars. I don't think I've seen such a consistent pattern since I started watching this phenomenon, last year.

Go to this website and switch on the "computer models" if you'd be curious to see what I'm talking about- Saint Louis, MO Weather / Stormpulse / Hurricanes, severe weather, tracking, mapping

Almost all of the models show this new storm- as yet unnamed- as tracking west, in our general direction.

Last year, Cuba got hit by a succession of hurricanes: could this turn out to be our lucky year?

People here don't get worried until storms are at least to Cuba... and even then historically they'll move North before getting here... with a few notable exceptions.

Default Gaston

Our newest little storm, unnamed even as recently as this AM, now has a name, not so charming but in keeping somehow with Fiona, it is Gaston.

Unlike Fiona, a majority of the computer models show it heading this way. The predictions are long range, and subject to many errors, but each new storm heading this way increases the likelihood of a visit.

I follow several hurricane pages on Facebook (I like the ones in Spanish as they tend to focus on Latin America and not just "Florida, watch out!". Search "hurricane" or "huracanes" and find a page you like, some are quite good. Hurricane Track is doing some decent coverage of Earl.

I'm not worried about what's out there for Cancun right now, nothing to fret about yet.

Whasamatta V? Didn't you get the memo? Yucatan is off limits this season. From Akumal to Isla the tortugas tell the story. I am holding firm to the prognostication of no hits within 300 km of Akumal.

Don't worry. Be happy.

Earl is tracking directly over my house in Halifax, and then my cottage in Pictou, Nova Scotia - and it's very wet and windy here! And, you folks are looking at a prospective storm hitting there, where I have a house (in Puerto Morelos). Makes my investment choice of real estate versus stocks scary at this time of year.

I like it! I'm kinda tired of tuna.

Only kidding, the reality is the weather here is delightful, most of the time, and weather events of any consequence, rare.

Watching the weather, on the other hand, is something people must have done since time began, and remains one of the first topics to com up in any casual conversation. Unfortunately for those who are counting on sunny weather for a brief visit, it remains almost impossible to predict more than a few days out and not at all, until it occurs, in full detail.

According to News957 - Breaking News Headlines: Halifax, Local, Canada, World, Business, Sports, Entertainment News, Weather & Traffic Reports almost all of Halifax is operating right now on back-up power, ie generators - including them.

Saint Louis, MO Weather / Stormpulse / Hurricanes, severe weather, tracking, mapping shows the track.

Default Invest 92L

Invest 92L, now approximately 350 miles from Cancun, is said to have the potential of bringing heavy rains to our area, from Wednesday evening. As of this moment, Tuesday AM, our weather is delightful, if hot.

Well V, it looks like you'll finally get your storm... although I'm not expecting it to be anything more than a day or two of rain... they're calling it 70% change of storm formation and it looks pretty cyclone-ish on the satellite... so we all better stock up on the beer and poptarts..

rawkus: I prefer the deep waters and soothing waves of the Yaxchilan, myself. Or the rocky lakes of La Luna.

Looks like Karl will be born shortly... I just hope it breaks up before the rain hits Veracruz and Tabasco, they've had enough!

Default Karl

Well, it is hotting up now, Life.

Karl is predicted to have sustained, 50 MPH winds when it hits the Yucatan in about 21 hours, with gusts higher.

It is predicted to pass south of Cancun: sorry, Kathy Caribe....

I dont expect Karl to amount to much, sure we'll get some rain but I doubt we'll see much in the way of wind.

You're gonna have to hold on a little longer V for a proper one

According to Novedades, a local meterologist predicts the storm to pass between Punta Herrero and Punta Allen, well south. It's still probablay going to be a wet bicentennial.

Karl is at the coast, near Chetumal, 185 miles to the south, with 65 MPH winds and rain; but, our weather, at this time, here in Cancun, could not be better.
