Default Anyone know how to nationalize a car?

I have a car that I am looking to sell simply becasue my family has out grown it. It has US plates so I can only sell is to another foreigner. I have heard of people nationalizing a car and then being able to sell it to anyone. I would like to know how to do this. Banjercito told me to talk to Aduana. Aduanna told me to get an aduana agent to help me. Every aduana agent has told me that it can not be done. I have read on the intenet that this can be done and the car has to be more than 10 years old. Does anyone know a starting point for me to get this process rolling? Any idea of the costs involved? Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

I did a lot of research on this issue, bringing one down Vs buying one here, back a couple of years ago when we bought our car.

First, it is not legal to sell/buy a US or Canadian plated vehicle and although it is done, should Aduana stop the vehicle it will be confiscated and impounded. The "permit" is issued only to the owner who brought the vehicle into Mexico. Again, there seems to be ways around this but if stopped.....

Nationalizing a vehicle can only be done during the 10Th year of the vehicle's 'life' and it is not cheap either. Since the Fall of 2008 only Mexican citizens and those with an FM2 can register (get plates) a Mexican/Nationalized vehicle. This change caught a lot of folks unawares including us when we went to register the car!

Debi decided not to nationalize her car, due the cost of about $1,200 on a $3,000 value US.

There has to be a simple way to do this. I am pretty sure NAFTA said, and I don't know how they got around this, was at the time of NAFTA, it was 10 years or older to nationalize. Each year a year off the minimum age requirement was to drop off until after 10 you could bring a new foreign car into Mexico. It make zero sense now that it is 10 years on the button or not at all.

Go Figure.
