Default Talavera Style - Where is Best Price

I am looking for the best prices on reasonable quality Talavera products for my home.

I have bought many things at the place at Market 23, where you get 10% off if you buy $400 or more. Generally I have found piece by piece prices there to be as cheap as anywhere. DOES ANYONE HAVE A SECRET PLACE to buy this beautiful stuff for bargain prices?

I have seen odds and ends at Tianguis but no real selection. I bought this cool thing for my garafon a couple of years ago on Talleres. But I have yet to find a good source for glasses, plates, cups, cookware, etc.

Recently I tried to buy a lot more at M23 and they would not budge on the 10%, no matter how much I was willing to buy. I did my best "he who speaks next loses" technique but they let me walk away. It amazes me that with transient/replaceable merchandise, any merchant in a mercado venue would let someone walk with no profit for them, rather than some profit. Bienvenidos.

For example, $2,000 less 20% = $1,600 and assuming they (at least) double their cost at full retail, that would still yield $600 gross profit. The rents, payroll and electric are there no matter what. $0 x double your cost is still $0 profit. Go figure.

The place in Valladolid right after you get off the Cuota is a joke. They think they are Liverpool or something. Really high prices.

Thanks in advance.

I bought some cool Talavera-style melamine dishes and salsa bowls at Pottery Barn this year... but I'm guessing you want something more authentic

I got some pretty Talavera wall art (cute little lizards and frogs and such) very cheap at Ek Balam ruins (near Valladolid) the other week. About $30 - $50 pesos a piece, depending on the size. They had tons of cool decorative stuff, but not so much for plates and dishes. Very far out of the way, but I'm sure at tons of ruins and cenotes you can find gift shops with similar things.

In Playa there is a large place on the Federal Road with a lot of sinks outside. We stopped there and bought some hanging plant pots, a dog bowl, and a key rack for pretty cheap. They have all kinds of stuff including serve ware, dishes, cups, pots, tiles, sinks, etc. but some of it is dusty and broken so you really have to search through it. The guy told us that his family made all of it.

I get so confused when I drive to Playa now, because of all the bridges but this place is hard to miss. It is on your right side driving in to Playa. It looks like it is 2 stories and the whole outside is covered with sinks. Hope it helps.

Thanks KD

I am assuming it is on the right if going from Cancun.

Picked up a nice waste basket today, bedroom size, just after Bonfil, on the right going toward the airport. Mostly things for plants. Pretty much nothing for kitchen. Of course I did not find what to display and enjoy the aroma of, some quite fragrant eucalyptus cuttings.

Thanks again,

At the place I'm talking about the entire garden is full of every size and shape of planter and I think I even saw some fountains. Tons of kitchen goodies inside. It is like a Talavera outlet.

And yes, on the right when driving in from Cancun.

Try Atesanias Mazahua . They are on the road to the airport. Carr. Aeropuerto sm 308. mza 2 , lote 12 alfredo v. bonfil. Tel: 998-882-1770. If you go towards the airport from downtown, they are just past the Alfredo Bonfil "glorieta" with a Dominos on one corner and a restaurant called Las Tarascos on the other corner. They have a place in mercado 27 but I think they give better deals in this store.

Thanks Poco,
I actually went there Monday and got a nice bedroom sized waste basket. $380, with "precio mejor" of $300. I am happy with what I got.

Hardly any selection of dinnerwear items. Mostly for plants.

I actually parked at the entrance to Bonfil and walked, after consuming .25 kg de barbacoa de borrego. Yummy. So good I ate there again Tuesday with a friend.

Thanks for the info.
