Default Internet Speed Doubling??

We had a call from Telmex last week saying the internet speed would double, which alas it hasn't! Ingrid said she also thought she saw something about 10mb being available but the Telmex website still shows 5mb as the maximum, just wondering if anyone knew anymore or had their speed increase lately?

My wife just called as the speed hasn't changed and now they are completely denying that they are going to double anything!! I don't get this place sometimes, we do they phone us and tell us to leave our modem on for 7 days so they will change the speed and then don't?

My internet has been really slow the last few days - anyone else seem to be going at snail's pace?

I did a speed test and got 1.16 which is ok i guess for 1.5mb (although pretty sad for 2010!) - so not sure why it's dragging so much. My computer seems to be working fine?

I can't think of an answer to your question though - I'm just not sure why that would happen?

I've heard rumors of speed increases several times since I've been here... and in some lucky parts of town they sometimes do get the increase.. which of' course pisses off everyone else who is paying the same or MORE for lower speeds just a few blocks away. I think it was V who most recently mentioned that he had received a noticeable increase in speed.... As to the where and why its anyone's guess... some could say the infrastructure is to blame for slower speeds in some areas, but I tend to chalk it up to "viva Mexico" rather than trying to figure why they can't deliver better service... all I know is where I live near Yaxchilian Ave.. we haven't seen much improvement in internet in years... and my cablemas connection seems to be severely overloaded some times of the day.... but it's one of those take it or leave it sort of things...

Yep, Best Day on the Bonempak. How you reckon they get such speed here? If they can get this sort of speed surely residencial should be able to get 5 or 10 easily??

I reckon mine must be 5MB now.

With a 4MB connection theoretical maximum would be 4.096MB. Since mine is above that it's probably 5MB with the usual degree of degradation.

When I left Sweden some 6 years ago, I had 12mbit(ran me about $19US/month...)

Now we are on 1mbit... And the year is 2010, soon 2011... In lack of a better word: R*tarded.

My wife spoke with them and they said the max on offer is 5mb and that's only if your within 1k of the shop in centro, after that it goes down so i think the best i can hope for is 3-4 meg. I'm going to have to go into Telmex as my wife swears she saw a poster about 10 meg in there.

On a side note, anyone know how i can get a static IP withouth having to pay 1000 plus pesos a month for it from rip off telmex plus i HAVE to have a commerical line apparently, any other country they just set you one up, here they want blood, bastards.

How many sharing that connection mate? You should try and download something and see what speed it in K it comes down at.

My mate has that speed in his house for a tenner in Ashford with Virgin, you can see it now in 2050, "Telmex announce 50mb connection to celebrate the new year"

I read some bullshit article the other day, some boss of Telmex saying Mexico doesn't need more than 10mb as that is fast enough to stream anything, I can barely get VoIP working through Skype on this connection!

Our plan is listed as 843.50 pesos - not sure why it's a weird amount but that's what it says. We are over 1km from the telmex shop in centro but it's not by much.

Reading 'Kent Village' made me very homesick and reminded me of Hamstreet

I can never get past 1.66 and that upload speed makes me cringe. I think i have no choice but to go for the same package as your on Steve but I reckon i'll only get about 3.5 with me being at the very end of Bonampak.
