My favorite part: "Prosecutors can’t get an arrest warrant for Sanchez because judges are on vacation."

Actually, although he was recently released, he was "supposedly" involved in aiding to bring in cuban illegals.
Also, it was found that Some people in Immigration were also found to be helping illegals, from different countries which is why there was a huge cleanup, about a year ago in immigration department, bothin the city and at aiport.

All I wonder is WHY did it take officials over a year to realise this, when it has been Very public knowledge if you read the paper.

Nope. Guilty people either don't go to jail or don't stay there very long. Got out the other day and was like a returning hero at the airport! "I don't want anything to do with politics anymore." he said. Spoken like a good politician. Let's see how long it takes him to run again. Or make a new gospel album.

He has already asked the local government--that has no money--to supply him with 5 police as a bodyguard.

On the allegations of theft from the city coffers (early reports spoke of 800,000,000 pesos) I suspect they couldn't get any of those involved to "turn".

To pull off a theft (embezzlement) of that size would have required the cooperation of a number of people involved in handling the city's revenues; they would also have profited from it. It may be that the records showed, clearly, that the money was gone, but not so clearly who had actually gotten hold of it, absent a witness from inside the loop.

Whether a civil action would stand against those responsible for managing and safeguarding the city's monies is another question, and might not reach to Greg, himself, in his capacity as mayor.

It would be an interesting question whether Mexican courts recognize the taxpayers as potential plaintiffs to such a suit. The City has been robbed of critically needed resources, and the evidence of it is seen on every street, and sidewalk.

The people sue? Here? It happens every sexenio and every trienio and nobody complains except the ones wanting to be elected the next time. "Every nation has the government it deserves." Joseph de Maistre

There are common sayings here that show that the "people" know and really don't care because changing may affect them negatively.
1.- ¿pobre político? pobre político. (A poor [$] politician is a poor politician.)
2.- Él que no transa, no avanza. (If you don't cheat, you don't get ahead.)
