| You can find unfurnished rentals from aslew as $ 200 US to birth of $ 2,000 per month. But for a decent place in a decent part of town you can score for $ 400-$ 500. You need to think in terms of access to the public bus system, walking distance to shopping, entertainment, etc or you will spend too much in taxis and/or get soaked walking to a bus stop. Or get a car and but cheap gas. Good luck.

| I've also found it easier to walk round areas rather than looking in the paper - you have no idea what the street is like, surrounding areas etc just by looking at the region stated on the ad. At least by walking around you can get a basic idea of what the inside COULD be like. Going by what TJ said and taking into consideration bus routes etc, it's easier to start from there and walk around jotting down numbers. Most people put a for rent sign in their window rather than paying for ads anyway.
