| Just renewed mine in August. Take a copy of your existing license, passport, FM and bill from your house. Expect to be there for an hour or so going through the stages. |

| Yes, you'll need FM3 or FM2 When I got mine 6 years ago, they would only issue it for as long as your Visa is valid. Hence I never bother renewing and rely on my UK licence. Might have changed since then. |

Drivers license.....??????????? What do you need a driver's license for in Cancun..?????? What they really need - is some type of vehicle inspection like we have in all 50 states in the USA...!!!!!! I have seen what "passes for a motor vehicle" in the roads of Cancun which should have been junked years ago..!!!!! No headlights - tail lights - fenders - no muffler of any kind...!!!!! AND talk about AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS!!!!!!! IT IS A GOOD THING THAT GUNS ARE OUTLAWED IN MEXICO!!!!!!!!! I come from Boston, MA where the drivers are known to have a bad reputation for being aggressive. BUT Cancun cannot hold a candle to any Boston driver...... change 3 lanes on Kabah without any turn signal - Turn without any signal - Even race car drivers have more road courtesy.... AND - I thought there is supposed to be a HELMET LAW for scooter & motorcycle riders....???? A few years back - I forgot my helmet at home and was stopped by traffic police and paid a $100 Peso "propina".......

| Easiest way to prove you're a local for local discounts. That's why I got mine anyway. |

| For anyone wanting to get a new Mexican driver's license (not a renewal), you will need to produce your current foreign license, your FM2/3, your CURP, proof of your address and blood type (no kidding, but they'll do it there for you for a fee of 70 pesos), take a vision test, and fill out a form you can buy there for a peso, called a "Carta Responsiva". As Steve said, they are only good for the time you've got left on your FM2/3, and they ain't cheap, at around 650 pesos per year, or fraction thereof. (I can see why Steve decided to rely on his foreign license: I may do the same, at those prices....). |

| My FM3 expires in 2 weeks and my license expired last month. Last week when I presented my Visa, license and CFE bill, they also asked for my birth certificate. This if my 4th renewal and they have never asked to see my birth certificate before. Interestingly enough, I happpened to have it with me and showed it to her. She looked very surprised when I presented it. At that point she offerd me a 2 or 5 year renewal and, of course, I took the 5 year for around 1,000 pesos. I have NEVER had an issue with them wanting to match the date of my license expiration to the expiration of my Visa. Funny things happen here.

It's all very legit, with everything posted for all to see- prices, requirements, etc. Beauty, your situation raises an interesting question- how do they both match the expiry date to the FM2/3 AND give a license valid for five years. You may have found the gap in their rules that gives the foreigner a break on the high price of the license. | |

| Like beauty, I have never had any real issues renewing my driver's permit past my Visa expiration. It came up six years ago and I showed them how long I had been in Mexico and pointed out that my Visa was a "capital variable" Visa and I got a smile and a 2 year permit. I have since converted to a 5 year permit. Like beauty, it was offered to me at the time of renewal...I did not know to ask for it. |
