| Hi, I would like to know if you know of any cheap / affordable room or Hotel in downtown Cancun city center. All we need is a bed and a key to our door to lock the room. Our plan is to arrive to Cancun and stay someplace just to sleep while during the day we will be visiting apartments for our long term stay (4 months). Anything you would recommend us? |

| Hi Carlos, there is a cheap clean hotel on avenida Tulum called the Parador, pretty much around the corner from immigration, they charge about 400/450 a night. With regards to a 4 month rental, there was a guy on here if I remember correctly who had a lot of problems finding a short term rental in downtown stating that most people want to rent their properties for 8 months or a year. I might be wrong though.... |

| @matkirk: I think the problem there was that the person wanted to reserve the short term rental months in advance. Maybe if someone were to ask for a short term rental available right away, they'd have more luck... but I'm not sure either |

| Hotel Económico en Cancún - Hotel Alux 300/350 pesos a night. We have stayed here several times. Nothing fancy but they have a bed and a lock (with key)! |

| El Parador!! Ahhh, memories! I stayed there for about 2 weeks while looking for a place to live 24 years ago when I came here to live. I check for a friend a couple of months ago and the brand new Ibis hotel was really cheap too. Good luck |

It's possible to find recommended landlords, which is very important in avoiding disappointments. I know one, if the budget will permit it. Soon, high season will again be upon us, and four months will take the OP right into the middle of it! | |

| Thank you very much for your suggestion. I highly appreciate them! I will have a look at the Hotels you recommended and book one of them. So some of you believe finding a place for 4 months could be an issue? We are the perfect tenants as we are a non-party couple (been there, done that), both highly educated being myself concluding my Ph.D. studies and only looking for a break in our life to reflect on what we really want to do in the future (both work and location to live). We have discussed the possibility of staying permanently in Cancun (I am an academic researcher being the location irrelevant for my work as long as I have Internet and my computer) but we have not yet decided on that so I would not want to compromise myself with a landlord. Any strategies on how to approach landlords on this? |

| The Ibis is at the corner of Acanceh and Nichupte, a block from the north end of Plaza Las Americas. Great location and a nice looking brand new building. Alux is a lot cheaper and a block from the bus station on Av. Uxmal. Across from El Parador is a nice, inexpensive place, on Av. Tulum and a block from the bus station. Free internet in the lobby for guests. Hotel Kin Mayab.

| I would suggest El Rey Caribe (opposite corner from Immigration - Close to Bus Station). Eco-hotel Rey del Caribe downtown Cancun. Check out the Trip Advisor comments at Hotel el Rey Del Caribe (Cancun, Mexico) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor |

hostal el meson de tulum - hostaltulum.com I believe this place is closer to Chichen Itza than to McDonalds. Down in the area of the Palacio del Gobierno or whatever that gov;t building is called.
