| Here comes more.... Viewing workplace diversity | Vancouver, Canada | Straight.com Under the Employment Equity Act, the federal government, federal Crown corporations, and federally regulated companies with 100 or more employees must try to accommodate four designated groups””women, aboriginal people, visible minorities, and people with disabilities””through positive measures. Under the act, these employers must also conduct a workforce survey, prepare short-term and long-term goals for achieving equity, and file annual reports to the federal labour minister The purpose of the Employment Equity Act is to ensure that federally regulated employers provide equal opportunities for employment to the four designated groups: women; Aboriginal peoples; persons with disabilities; and members of visible minorities Damn it..... How about just having professionals doing the job???? |

and even more... rbc.com - RBC Financial Group - Corporate Responsibility and again, it's NOT about your skills, knowledge, professionalism, integrity and willingness to work. It's all about having the right skin color, being of the right sex and being a visible minority.

I guess I am at a loss here v8eyedoc...if you don't like the way things are going in the US, why not just leave. I have discovered that one of the great things about gringos living in Mexico is that we don't usually complain about the way things are done in Mexico, we find humor in the situation.

Perceived Beauty, running away from the problem is not a solution of a problem... What will happen if all the professionals with knowledge, who can not get through the political correctness and Affirmative Action limitations just pack up and leave the country?? And trust me, it's NO fun or humor in being denied a job for being a straight white male with knowledge, skills and willingness. Just happens that I have the wrong skin color, wrong sexual orientation (I'm straight) and apparently too much education and life experience. I don't fit into the vision of modern society, which prioritizes Affirmative Action over real skills, knowledge and desire to work and to contribute.

Come to Mexico, if you want to compete for a job based on your qualifications. Unhandicapped, young, white male, well educated, Spanish speaking, and lots of valuable experience will not weigh you down, here; nor will you feel the burden of those affirmative action programs you've spoken of. ![]() Scorpio, you're not old enough to behave or think like a bitter old man who resents the opportunities he sees others enjoying. Most of your life still lies ahead, and it's full of good surprises. Trust me.

Good points, V! I'm not bitter or try to sound bitter, I'm just fed up with political correctness and Affirmative Action policies. Anywhere I go in Canada, I encounter the following note: "The ****** is committed to having a skilled, diversified workforce reflective of Canadian society and to the equitable representation of women (especially in non-traditional occupational groups), Aboriginal peoples, persons with a disability and members of a visible minority group.** It is soooo contradictory..... with the so called **skills** on one hand and an **equitable representation** on the other... And yes, I do HATE when selection is based on the right skin color and sex instead of skills, knowledge and willingness to work. It's like an evil circle, going rounds and rounds and always ending up at the starting point.

What irks me most about the whole controversy is the hypocrisy on all sides. One country stating, while maintaining its right to control its borders, that another country doesn't have that right. What happens here in Mexico when people from the southern border come through "without passing through Immigration?" The are "repatriated" while Mexicans doing the same thing going through the northern border are "deported." What would happen to any non-Mexican citizen living here who just decided to not follow the rules of the Immigration and Naturalization Services or just wander back and forth between countries without passports, FM-3's or 2's? Although primarily a philosophical anarchist who believes that we are all citizens of the world and that borders are artificial inventions, I find it a currently untenable philosophy to put into practice at this time. Sovereign countries seem to at least think they have the right to control their borders and what happens within their territory and we seem to have to follow their rules if we wish to not be hassled, jailed, deported or repatriated. Sigh.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Canada, Mexico and USA could implement a system similar to the European Union where citizens of all the 27 countries can travel, work and live anywhere in the EU without any kind of visas, permits etc?? Aren't Canada, USA and Mexico members of NAFTA agreement?? What's the point of it all when an average citizen has to clear numerous hurdles and obtain several permits if willing to live and work in any of these 3 countries??
