I was just about to say that I dont know much about the public transport there (last visit was 12 yrs ago) . But on a related note you can fly there from Cancun for 399 pesos one way, which is a bargain.

My Dad and I were going to go yesterday, since I haven't been since 1997, but opted for Coba instead as I couldn't find a darn thing different about Cozumel then staying on the mainland or going to Isla Mujeres. Kind of disappointed and maybe someone can chime in on something I missed.

I went to Cozumel last year for a one night stay with my boyfriend at an all inclusive place called Aura Cozumel Grand Resort. It was a really good price (dont remember how much exactly but around $80 USD for both of us, all food & drinks included. They let us check out of our room the following day and still use the pool facilities all day. The best thing about the resort was they had several water slides built into their pool (and it is adults only so no children on them!). We did some touring around the island early in the day before we checked in and yes it is very similar to Cancun & Isla Mujeres. Ive heard Cozumel has their own ruins site called San Gervasio Ruins that are unique in that they are dedicated to women, fertility and marriage. Some on trip advisor say they top Chichen Itza but I think that would be really hard. Wish I would have gone to see them myself but didnt know about them then.

I have visited San Gervasio ruins in somewhat of a pilgrimage- I am a doula and help women give birth so the ruins dedicated to women and fertility was right up my street. Do they TOP Chichen???? No way !!! Chichen is fabulous and a MUST SEE when you visit this area.
