Someone has more information?

Half the streets of the city are closed and there was a big shooting around 5:45.

Word is it was an assassination attempt on a chief of police for the whole state of Quintana Roo. One bodyguard is dead, another has had something like 10 blood transfusions already, leaking like a sieve I gather. Parts of Chichen Itza are closed and there are checkpoints around the city. It will be all over the news in the morning.

Mexican authorities have placed security forces in Cancun on their highest alert after an assassination attempt on the police chief of the seaside resort.

Chief Adrian Samos Medina was not injured in Thursday's attack, but one of his bodyguards was killed and two were injured when unidentified gunman fired at Medina's car in broad daylight in the middle of the city.

Mayor Francisco Alor said the attack was the result of the action law enforcement was taking against organized crime.

Since the beginning of the year, the government's fight against organized crime has resulted in the deaths of nearly 900 people, including police and soldiers, which were deployed by President Felipe Calderon to cities considered especially in danger.

On Wednesday, five soldiers were killed in Michoacan in a hail of bullets fired by a group of 30 attackers.

Aida works at IMSS. They have closed off Coba between Tulum and yaxchilan.
There is a Police official in IMSS that the "Trafico narcos' (Drug dealers) tried to kill hom and he is there. he was hit but is in good condition.
It is in Novedades today.
