I want to recommend a real estate agency that specializes in Mexican Caribbean properties. They specialize in properties down in the Costa Maya and also have a fair number of listings in the Riviera Maya. These guys are Americans and, of course, speak perfect English, but they know the area well. They have an office in Playa del Carmen and another in Houston, Texas. And they offer mortgages for Americans on Mexican properties (which is a new thing).

But the reason I'm recommending them is because I know them personally and I know that they REALLY know what they are doing and are HONEST. There are so many people pimping real estate here and some large percentage of them are shady. But these guys have integrity. Please feel free to contact me if you want more info.

Here's their info:
Mexira: Mexican Caribbean Real Estate and Financing
US Tel: (713) 344-1712
MX Tel: (984) 803-5013
Web Site: http://www.mexira.com

Adding to the list of local services, YZA Farmacias has a delivery service 24 hours a day. Excellent service for those of us with kids who get sick at the worst hours, or don't have a car. Nothing like being at home with a sick toddler and no way to get medication! They are fast and efficient, one of the only delivery services I've encountered that actually has a decent computer system, ie, we just tell them our phone number and they have all our info. (Now why can't the pizza places get on board with this?)

From my personal experience, Hospiten almost let me die when I got a surgery because I couldn't reach either the phone or the bell, I was tied upright to the bed, I had to unplug my ... what is the name already, that takes blood from the scar.

The surgery was performed by Dr Rafael Velazco, who (I learned later) was just out of jail, and probably went back later. I have heard other horror stories, which I will not report.

Amerimed was wonderful last year when I got a salmonellosis, although they wanted to keep me overnight uselessly. But they saved my life, I was totally dehydrated.

I would like to get your opinions about insurance companies. :?: I have 2 very bad. I had a policy with INTERACCIONES when Wilma visited us. They never gave me a centavo for my damages. I made a complain at the Condusef, to no avail. (no icon for Arrrggg....?)

I insured my car at MAPFRE TEPEYAC, I sold it about 6 weeks ago and asked for the return for the left time. I went there maybe 5 times, the check had not arrived yet.... until I call Mexico where they said there has been no cancellation!!!

I contacted Lewis&Lewis, but they are very expensive. They gave me a higher price (for Qualitas) than Qualitas themselves here! My new car is insured with Atlas(good price), and my apartment with Metropolitana (not cheap), but no hurricane = no damage = no experience yet.

I have a very good experience with some carpenters, but they are in Temozon. I think it is worth going there. Very good jobs, good prices. . All in Cancun I contacted (Thanks Wilma!!!) were very bad. Some works are not finished (and will never be).

Steve, Ana and Estander....

I will be seing Dr Oriol tomorrow.... and not for a baby.

A friend of mine just recommended him to me also as a specialist of cancer matters.

I cross my fingers. She told me, unlike Steve, he is rather dry, but I really don't care. I ask him to be very very good. He charges $600 now.

Default Insurance for cars with foreign license plate

I can recommend the following insurance broker for cars with foreign license plate, I think, it´s the cheapest on market:

Luis Lobo Cancun, Quintana Roo
sucursal Av. Tulúm No. 192 Loc. 24-B Sm. 4 Plaza Tropical
telefono(s) (998) 884-9640

The insurance ist from Comercial America and the broker is making it through internet and you pay with you card (credit o debit).
We are for years with him, we pay for 1 year only 2400 Pesos (only third party liability).
Once we have had an incidence and it was our fault, the insurance representant came inmediatly and fixed it without any problem with the third party.

Just wanted to re-recommend my dentist:

Dr. Mauricio Grassi
American Smile Clinic
Nance #17, SM 25
tel: 887-4521
cell: 044-998-154-5255

He speaks English, Spanish, Italian and I think French. I just saw him again and have to say his attitude towards dentistry really makes me comfortable going to him. He does what's needed and doesn't over-diagnose just to make money. Also he doesn't hurt me and I have sensitive teeth.

I want to recommend an Official Translator. Her name is Julie Menasco. Some of you may know her from when she was the Director at CES Elementary School.

We just had her translate a large number of legal documents and she did an excellent job for a very reasonable price.

Julie Menasco - Official Translator
email: juliemenasco [at] yahoo [dot] com
tel. 884-6878
cel. 998-161-8186

Julie translates both English to Spanish and Spanish to English. When she translates English to Spanish she has a native Spanish speaker double check her translation. She does excellent work.

Hi GONZO.....!! Not living in Cancun....yet! And still in the planning & preparation stages... So far, I have had 4 international movers come to the house for an estimate of shipping costs..and they range from $20,000 to $10,000 for the same amount of "crap"... ! So...I am rethinking what I can sell here and just replace in Cancun, as I have no sentimental attachment to a piece of furniture. Just my motorcycle.!

Leaving on the 24th of Feb for 15 days...to see if I can purchase a house of my liking... THEN...I will have a place to ship my goodies to...!!

SNOW........?????????????????? OMG.....!!! All the meteorologists here..have just about been BURNED AT THE STAKE..!! They had forcast over 1 foot of snow..for last Wednesday.....and we got an inch and 1/2..!!

Schools were closed for the day, businesses were closed, all state workers were let go early..!! Millions of $$ were lost..!! Even the newspapers had a hayday.. as headlines read - "NO SCHOOL & NO SNOW"

Mexira is gone. Sorry.

There's a real estate agent here who I recommend. She does everything by the book, she fully understands the system here and she's been her for over 20 years. Her name is Carmen Bianca. She's slow to get a web presence (I keep nagging her), but I know she has a lot of listings right now in your price range. Her cell is 998-874-0177, her email is carmenbianca [at] hotmail [dot] com.

I just wanted to throw in a recommendation for my new Ob/Gyn. He came highly recommended to me by a few friends, and I was not let down in any way. I come from a land of free healthcare, which I now see doesn't always mean better!

Dr. Luis J. Medellin Lara - he speaks English, and was very professional. His office was amazing, and he was very thorough. I felt very comfortable with him, and would recommend him to anyone.

Web address : Ginecologos en Cancun, Centro Ginecologico y Perinatal: Dr. Luis Medellin Lara

Email :ljmedellin@ginecologocancun.com

Address and other contact info on the link provided above.

Yes Rivergirl, Dr. Grassi is one of the leading dental surgeon in Cancun and majority of his patients are from US and Canada. Just found him on youtube also:

I want to recommend a great Plumber/Electrician/ Handyman (Albanil)/Painter. He also repairs Hydraulic pump and drywall problems. His name is Pedro Uc Noh. He is very skilled, punctual and reliable. He did a lot of work for me and I am pleased with everything he did. On one occasion, I had a leak in my roof. He fixed it, but apparently I had more then one leak (I found this out after another storm came through) and he came back to fix the problem without any extra charges. His prices are very, very fair. His (Cell) phone number is (998) 118-6687.

By the way, I used 2 other "handymen" before finding Pedro, and they were certainly not worth recommending.
