| HI! I know this is a Cancun forum, and it has been quite a long time since I have posted anything (probably our last trip there, in March!!)but I am looking for a little guidance. Hubby and I are thinking of doing a long weekend in May to either Playa del Carmen or somewhere south of Cancun. This time around we would like to try an all inclusive, so what we pay now is most of what we have to worry about for the trip. We are looking to spend about $1200. for May 13th-May16th, and I am finding things like that on Apple Vacations and Expedia but it is hard to know a decent hotel. We want a nice beach for swimming and relaxing on, if there is good snorkeling too that would be awesome, good food but we also aren't "fancy" people to dress up for dinner. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (I always get good advice here, that is why I am posting again) Thanks in advance!! Amy |

| I suggest you contact David Phelps, who lives in Cancun but has a US 800 number. He got me a couple of great weekend getaway deals and knows the area backwards and forwards. Ask him about El Dorado Royale. Great place between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos. | Hello. Asking for and giving hotel recommendations can be a bit hard. Few people have stayed at all the resorts in the area, and with so many changes going on, a resort that was great 3 years ago, doesn't mean it will be great this year. This also applies to the beaches at the resorts. The beach can be great at one resort one week, and have no beach the next week. The rule of thumb I use is you get what you pay for. You will never be able to compare a stay at Le Blanc vs a stay at Grand Oasis Cancun. Once you find a couple of resorts within your budget, start asking questions about those resorts. There are many great resorts between Cancun and PDC, but do keep in mind that many of the hotels in the middle, like Valentin Imperial do offer great amenities, but they are sortha out of the way from everything.

| Ok, we usually have lots of responses on here with questions, so I guess I was too vague. There is one resort now that Cancun Tom had been to a while ago, Gran Bahia Principe Tulum that looks wonderful, does anyone else know about this one? I have read a ton of great reviews on it, with a couple of people though talking about mosquitoes. We are from MN, so we are used to that, but just curious if in May they would be bad? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

| If Chicago Tom, now known as Cancun Tom, told you something, you can take it to the bank. If you are leaning to the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum and Tom liked it, then you will too. I am not pimping the El Dorado Royale but it came highly recommended by my travel agent friend David, and it was wonderful in every way. Manny's post says that "few people have stayed at all the resorts in the area" but David makes it a point to visit as many as he can. Since he is selling rooms and so are the hotels, he gets super deals so he goes on a lot of weekend getaways with his family. He makes it a point to talk to other guests so he really knows his stuff. He gets paid by the hotels so his services don't cost you a thing. He may have current positive or negative info on a resort you are considering and may be able to get you a better rate than you could by going direct or by going through Travelocity or Expedia. Or maybe a free upgrade or a free bottle of champagne. Who knows. Good luck.

| I have to second TJ's contact. David is our TA as well. I just talked with him about an hour ago about our trip last week in Playa that he booked for us. He does an excellent job. We travel to mexico 3 times a year, and David does a great job.....knows the resorts, and will work hard to get what you want. |
