| My wife and I will be at BBG from feb 9th to the 18th. We're both hitting the tanning bed every day. Are we still going to burn in the sun there? We hear it's so much more powerful down there. Should we ease into it increasing our time in the sun as time goes on? thanks for any suggestions in advance........see you next week! |

| Just use common sense and sunscreen when you get there. Depending on how tan you want to get, you should be fine on your stay. The sun is definitely warm and very intense. We both tan fast, and we have to be careful not to burn, but covering yourself with SPF 30 several times per day will not allow you to get much of a tan. Like I said earlier, just use lots of common sense.

| My rule of thumb is this one.....start day 1 w/a 45....see how it goes, then to a 30 then a 15 and go down to no lower than a 10.....I was just at BBG a few weeks ago and i had no problems w/burning and i came home golden brown! I have excellent tanning skin but I'm very anal about sloppin on sunscreen, I dont have the time nor patience to be sunburned while on vacation, you will see soooo many people who burn and they are just miserable for the week. Please dont let that happen to you!!! Tina |

![]() PS If you're too tall for your hair like I am, where a white ball cap, colored one's heat up....white is much cooler, and lots of sunscreen on your head....thin skin up there...lol

| Another good reminder is if you are short enough for your hair don't forget to put sunscreen on your part, if you pull your hair up be sure to get your ears and back of your neck and if you take your rings off (cus hands sure do swell) make sure to get tons on that white line, and don't forget under your chin. Even using SPF 30 to SPF 8 as the week went on we all got pretty tan. I was just not going to chance getting a bad sunburn.

| I've suffered lots in cancun. Bring a shirt to wear in the pool between 2-4 PM and suntan lotion, suntan lotion, and more. Spray suntan lotion for the hair part and a hat to cover the head when burnt. Stay hydrated with lots of water every morning. I have always had a dark tan going and I have still burnt everyday. |

| Good advice. Use a high factor and if you dont get a great tan, then so be it. Since I cam here, where theres the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, I've been so concious of it. I dont use nowt less than factor 30 anymore.

| Last but not least, bring your own, unless you want to spend $12 for a 6 oz bottle of decent sunscreen. |

| thank you for all the tips. My wife says she's not using lotion but I'm bringing 2 bottles in case she later changes her mind. We're both already chocolate, we've been in our tanning bed almost every day preparing. |

| Another idea is to use eco-friendly sunscreen. There are many benefits to these. 1. Wont harm the environment, marine environments in particular. 2. Does not contain harmful chemicals such as PABA. 3. Oil-free which means it wont clog your pores, and it absorbs into your skin instead of sittin gon top of it like oil-based sunscreens. 4. Waterproof because it absorbs into your skin. A good brand to try out is SmartShield. They also make sunscreen with natural DEET-free insect repellant mixed in. |

| seriously, you need to drink lots of water - and skip the "agua potable" from the sink" and the water in the buffet restaurant... well.. in my opinion anyway, it tastes like ass... some sort of sweet nasty tasting water i'd never experienced before... when i was there i never used sunscreen, just tanning lotion, and spent just about every day laying out... but everyones skin is different... if you say you are tan already i wouldnt worry about the hot mexico sun... just put some sort of lotion on it... say like an spf 4 lotion for moisturizing etc... i actually used an indoor tanning lotion (no spf) when i was there... got a little pink in the cheeks but nothing major.... ha. and stay away from the cheladas. i think thats what they're called.... beer, lime, salt... totally yummy but total dehydration.
