I have been trying to quit for years, Ive tried cold turkey...ive tried a few things. I can now 3 or 4 days with out one and then if i have a beer or a drink, I need a smoke. I was really impressed when Rob quit and made it through a cancun trip.... thats always been my nightmare scenario. ive heard great things about that mist cigarette or the fake cigarette whatever it is

thanks to all of you. i did quit 4 times for 8-10 months. each time i was pregnant. my biggest fear is that ill end up 500lbs. keep tring backs, i think the cancun trip will prove interesting in the no smoking department. i still drink my coffee in the morning though. havent tried a beer yet. might have to wait another week or two for that!!

I had quit for 7 years using Zyban.

4 years ago after contacting colitis and reading some statistics on Colitis, I started smoking again, I quit 2 years ago for 3 months and then went to Cancun and started again. Last year I quit again for 3 months and then started up again after Los Cabos. Both of those times were on Zyban.

This year I am on Champex and quit after this years superbowl, the big test will be Los Cabos next month.

The money is a big motivator for me, 11 bucks a day for a pack (plus being a closet smoker and going for coffee more often) adds another 3 bucks a day, 14 bucks a day cause I smoke = about 400.00 per month that I could better spend money on.

Keep at it b, and b. youll kick its butt!!!

I am a newbie to quitting. Its been less than a week and we are at TTR in 10 days. That outta be interesting. This time I used the other little blue pill. I think it works but the side effects are no joke.

Jim & Bob

You guys are correct about smoking drinking vacation - clearly the hardest times for me as I associate all my fun and social life with drinking smoking and being in a swimming pool

I can honestly say the first few times drinking and pooling were the most difficult - however - it had become easier - each time I do it - it builds confidence and makes it easier

Trust me I've been tempted - knowing and planning ahead for those week moments and how you are going to win those is a big step

A quitter

Everyone can laugh if they want but I've been quitting for 9 months now.

Some people can do cold turkey and that's great for them. For me I took a longer approach. Since smoking is partially habit and mostly chemical I decided to cut it out slowly.

Getting rid of the habit part is all about recognizing your triggers and preparing to deal with them. If you smoke after meals that's a trigger. Smoke with your morning coffee... trigger.

I gradually pushed out my first cigarette to later and later in the day. Doing this lets you get rid of your triggers a few at a time. If you're the type that smokes when they get up. Make yourself wait.

I haven't had a cigarette at work since Aug 2010 and am now working on not having one as soon as I get home in the afternoon. Not smoking in your home and vehicle will help a lot too.

I switched to E-Cigs last November and haven't had a "real" cigarette since. Worked great for me

www.whyquit.com

Do yourself a favor. Read there for 30 minutes. I did and kept on reading and learning about nicotine and addiction. I have been off nicotine for 6 years+ - one day at a time.

KMontoya- I was talking about Chantix. The dreams can be crazy and they are serious about the suicidal thoughts/behaviors. I have been on it for 6 weeks and I havn't killed myself yet so you can push through it. I have been nicotine free for almost 5 days and I think I have it whipped. I have been a smoker for 22 of my 38 years so I have to relearn everything. It honestly isn't as bad as I have experienced on other attempts, it has to be the Chantix because I would normally be a problem for society by now.

good point with the triggers ian

helps to know them and plan for them

mine were

golf
work (rare but still do once a month or so)
arguing with ex wife
drinking

for golf - the first time i just made sure i brought a sucker to put in my mouth

for work - the first time i brought my son with me to work

arguing with ex wife - the first few times i simply gave the phone to t and let her handle the bitch

for drinking - this was by far the hardest - i just constantly remind myself.........there is no way i am going to give up both habits so smoking has to go

My way wss to smoke two packs and leave the but in the ash tray with one or two hits then absolutly need one I take a drag off one of them,by the time all the butts were gone, I was done.when I drank we can't smoke in bars so when I want to smoke I just got another beer to drink and couldn't leave till it was done. It worked

I used to joke that quitting was easy....I had done it hundreds of times. I got sick one day and said to myself I was going to quit for a week and then go back to it when I felt better. And just to make it more difficult it was the first day of tax season when I'm under extreme pressure and working 80 hour weeks. The date was February 1, 2005. I felt better the next week and just never started again. Prior to that time I had tried the gum (lost a ton of fillings in my teeth), hypnosis (I did quit but found I had a new fondness for pocket watches), and the drugs which made me so damn irritable noone wanted me to be in the same county with me. All it took was just getting a really bad cold and that was after I had been smoking for over 30 years.

BTW, I bought my Mini Cooper with what I saved in cigarettes. Yeah I put on a few pounds but I don't huff and puff on the stairs anymore. Would I go back to it again? Never, ever, ever would I smoke again.

when i did smoke it would cost me $7.00 a day for smokes.... smoked for 19 years before i stopped..... gave it up after our second daughter was born..... she will be 17 on march 12th.... so i have been cigarette free for 17 years... now i like a nice cigar from time to time..... but that still don't make me want to smoke again...

In the end as long as something works for you it's great.

It's basically the only legal product in North America that has 0 good qualities. Even pot is good for some diseases.

This along with a heart attack eight years ago worked for me. The Doctor told me to notice when I smoked (all the time 4 pks a day) and make a note of it. After a meal, stopped at a red light, before bed, after sex,,,, etc. I spent two weeks doing that. After two weeks, the object was to wait 15 minutes. After dinner, want a smoke wait 15 minutes. Stopped at a red light want a smoke, wait 15 minutes. Did this for two weeks, then increased the time to 30 minutes. Seems like a lot but breaking a physical habit as well as a mental habit takes time. 45 days later I quit. Oh and drink lots and lots of water. I carried a water bottle with me. Wasn't easy, still get the urge, especially setting arond the sexy pool at TTR smelling all of the cigar smoke. But when the urge hits I wait and hour and now the urge seems to pass. Some days I still want a good cigar but the threat of dying(my wife will kill me) seems to keep things in perspective. Good luck and be patient. It takes time. We're pulling for ya. YOU CAN DO IT!!

I am a smoker, and yes drinking does trigger the want for a smoke. I use to hate going to downtown bars n clubs and not being able to breath. Come home shower, and still wake with a "nicotine" headache! I use to smoke a pack a day. I am a closet smoker, have a few family members that smoke, but i do not do it around my kid, anyone else's kid, and or family. I hope i go out with a bang at TTR, and come home not wanting them lil-white sticks. For the past year i have made a pack last me a week. Its the weekend i can't let go??? I don't smoke all day, i don't smoke in the car, its really for me, something i just need to let go of!!!!
Good luck, i believe you wake up and say today is the day. Why the F@#! did i ever start these damn things....jimmy
