Default Hurricane Rina headed for Cancun

There's another storm heading this way which is likely to affect the region from Wednesday. The picture below will automatically update several times a day.

There's also two more weather systems behind this one that could affect the area but too far away to predict right now.

My advice would be to stay clear of rooms that face the beach or the direction the wind will be blowing. Sounds like it will be a full house for Halloween and if you have flooding in the room they may not be able to move you to another room. The flood in our room was very inconvenient and if they would not have moved us it would have ruined our trip - the room smelled musty, the carpets were removed because they were soaked, there was an inch of cold water all over the floor, including next to the bed, and the couch was musty and soaking wet.

The sliding doors are not sealed very well and with heavy rain and wind it will blow the water into your room horribly and there is nothing really to do to stop it. Our storm wasn't even a named storm at that time, but they said it had tropical storm wind speed, just never got organized enough with the center of circulation. This new storm looks much worse, but if the center stays well to the south it may end up being similar to last weekend (which was pretty darn bad).

The wind rattles the sliding doors, and if you have a jacuzzi on the patio it is impossible to use it in that weather. Only the suites have the jacuzzi tubs in the bathroom.

Also, don't even try to wear high heels in the halls if it is wet at all, you will kill yourself!! I actually slipped on 2 inch sandal heels, and then my heel popped off - was awesome! Got a bad bruise on my forearm from the metal hand rail I whacked it on when slipping another time. Bring shoes that you can walk over ice easier (my Keen sandals were best), otherwise it is very dangerous and it does feel like you are walking on ice!

Hope you get lucky and the storm stays to the south! If it is just raining it isn't that big of deal, the wind is what f*cks everything up at the resort!

I'm picking up some booze at airport on the way in just in case bars are boarded up due to storm. We have a great game to play and with fun people, we'll have a great time. Think positive.

They opened up the nice shoes bar when the storm hit last weekend and people pretty much hung out in there. They brought food into the dance area behind the sports bar and that is where the parties were Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday night Paty O's was open because it was more windy than raining (but most people were in the Nice Shoes bar), but Sunday it was all boarded up.

I'm sure they will do the same next weekend if the storm hits. Just be careful with the slippery hallways, especially after a few drinks! But the nice shoes bar will be open for sure - I still recommend bringing your own alcohol, but that's just in case you are not wanting to leave your room at all!

I posted some videos of the storm just now.

The good thing is, the sports bar is usually the busy bar and the staff will do some sort of games (bean bag toss) in the hallway and they will do games inside the night club. There is always fun to be had somewhere, So like you said, think positive

Hmm, well as it stands at 11pm Sunday the storm is now named Rina, and predicted to be Hurricane Rina at Category 1 headed straight for us on Friday.

With these things though, changes can and often do happen. I wouldn't be canceling anything just yet, give it a few days and see how things develop.

On the bright side, one of the two weather systems behind it has fizzled away.

It's like I said before Kelly, bad weather isn't continuous. There was a storm last week that affected the area for a few days but the last 4 days have been great. Nice and sunny during the day, cool and fresh at night.

Storms/Hurricanes typically affect the area for 3 or 4 days at a time. This time of year they are at their peak so are not a surprise to those of us that live here. At the best, weather predictions are only accurate 4 or 5 days in advance and even then things can change a lot. No way of saying if Nov 7th to 14th will be nice weather or not this far out.

Kinda like me asking you if it will snow in Toronto during Nov 7th - 14th, it might do but no one can be sure whether it will or not, two weeks away.

LOL - well at least I can tell you with some degree of accuracy that it will rain in Seattle sometime this week, that is a given :-)

Good luck to everyone there - hope the storm takes a different path!

Hopefully our flight won't be cancelled (landing at thursday afternoon at 1:30p)... but if it isn't it sounds like we may all be having some interesting room parties! We do have a first floor jacuzzi room reserved.. don't know which one yet.

We are used to hurricane parties in Florida! The first thing on the list of your hurricane emergencies is booze and lots of it!

That's all we can do, Keith, at this time.. hopefully the system will bear more southwest. We're just hoping our plane will get there and if so we'll just make the best of it with the 4 cans of alcohol infused whipped cream that we're bringing. Hmm... using Jim's positive thoughts, at least it will easy to reserve pool side lounge chairs! Although we were so looking forward to the Boobs cruise... Hey Steve- worst case (and if the weather isn't too terrible), can you make some kind of a Boobs Land Cruise?? Just a thought.....

So, how bad does the weather need to be before they cancel a flight? We're willing to chance it.

Default Hurricane party

We hope to be joining everyone's hurricane party's as well!! We may be stuck in Dallas/Fort Worth a day or two before we get to TTR. Will see how it goes. I am sure our flight will get from Illinois to Dallas on Thursday AM but will just have to see how it goes since we are suppose to arrive at 1400 on Thursday on AA. I wonder how they will go about rebooking us and getting us on a different flight when the weather clears. It could be interesting I guess I better get my patience in check. LOL. Hope to see everyone soon and safe travels everyone.

PS Ken we tried calling you earlier!!!

I wont be at the hotel, we have two young kids and with school and childcare we cant visit as often as we'd like to. I do go on all the cruises though so if you come along on one of those we could meet - we have one during your stay on Nov 12th. BTW I do have a pic of me and my wife on my profile, just that it isn't my avatar.

Still a little early to write the boobs cruise off yet. One of the models has the storm fizzling out on Wednesday as it moves North and meets the cold air we currently have.

We might be able to arrange some kind of alternative party, maybe a Carlos N Charlies takeover or something, or perhaps reschedule the cruise for Monday. (I just updated the Oct 30th Cruise thread)

My best advice to the ladies is to bring shoes that will give you some traction on slippery tile - and I am SO not kidding on this one. The wind blows a lot of water into the hallways because of all the open areas and it gets VERY slick - reminded me of trying to walk on sheet ice last winter!

During the storm last weekend everyone was pretty much hanging out in Nice Shoes, and it was like someone else said with the games in the hall and stuff. The staff do what they can to make it fun, but it isn't very big and for the large turnout due to the special Halloween stuff, I don't know what they'll do. It was wall to wall people in the dance area and sports bar, and with everything all wet it can get a little 'ripe' smelling - lol!! Go with the flow, don't worry about hair/makeup (that gets ruined in the wind/rain, even inside, trust me on that!), wear beach clothes and dance!!

For those with outside jacuzzis, if this is a hurricane you probably are not going to be able to use them! Make friends with someone in a Temptation Suite! It isn't a big jacuzzi tub, but several people can sit on the side and put their feet in and play footsie games

I strongly recommend bringing a large tumbler or your own bottles of liquor for a hurricane party because there is only one bar that isn't outside and if that is where everyone is then it will be very crowded and take a long time to get your drinks! That's how it was Sat/Sun night last week. The bartenders were doing the best they could, but there just isn't that much space to have a lot of people working back there.

Hope the worst of it stays off the coast!!
