Default Trip Report for 11/11/11 - 11/18/11

Just a quick trip report from our week in Cabo....sorry about the delay, but the real world hit hard and fast once we returned to Florida. Now that Thanksgiving is over I'm starting to get caught up!

Travelled with some great friends that we met @ TTR Cancun & honestly I could travel with them anywhere and have a great time. That being said, Cabo is absolutely beautiful!! Living in Florida my entire life, I've seen lots of beach and have probably started taking for granted the beauty of the beach. In Cabo you have beach and mountains combined, which to me is just the best of both worlds.

We arrived Friday afternoon. No problems with check in, we were in a deluxe room. Nothing elaborate, but definitely roomy enough & my only complaint was the safe that never got fixed even though we reported it about 3 different times. Not a big deal, mainly a problem because the safe door wouldn't stay closed & got in the way when we tried to open the fridge to get beer!! LOL! The shower was great - plenty of room & loved the shower head! View off of our balcony was some great landscaping and a distant view of the ocean.

Friday night was the 360 party at the rooftop hottub; must admit I was a little nervous about outsiders being there. In addition to outsiders, we had noticed a large group of single men during our late lunch (later discovered that the resort was home base for a group involved in a golf tournament). My worries were pretty much put to rest by the pure enjoyment of the night! Had a GREAT time...yes, there were outsiders, but we pretty much stayed in the hottub and introduced ourselves to several other couples staying at the resort. Eventually got out and danced for a while, by that time I wasn't thinking about who else was there and no one was inappropriate to my knowledge. Just an FYI...the following Friday night (after we left) was promoted much more to outsiders as a "Lust Night" and a guest DJ was brought in etc. My understanding is that this made the night less enjoyable for the guests of the resort - really a shame in my opinion.

The rest of the week usually started with a relaxing walk on the beach followed by breakfast, then on to the pool for the day, breaking away for lunch, a little more time by the pool followed by a "nap" in preparation for the night's activities.

I'm not a very picky food person, so I was pretty pleased with my choices and everything I ate was tasty. Never made it to the Italian, ate at the buffet most of the time, but did hit the Japanese place one time. Overall, not what most would consider gourmet cuisine, but was definitely more than acceptable in my book.

Drink wise, I had read reviews about the drinks being weak.....well not the week I was there!! Plenty of alcohol in those drinks and with the right tip and attitude (sweet always wins over sour) I was able to get the "premium" liquor instead of the other stuff. Juan Carlos & Octavio were great at the pool bar and honestly all of the bartenders were exceptional. There was an issue with the beer at one point, but it didn't affect me since I prefer whiskey. (Monique, if you read this, I did have my fair share of Sambuca as well & thought of you with each one! lol)

Theme nights were not well attended by guests in general. One night in particular I called to verify the resort's theme for the night and was told a theme that was not even listed on the website when we were preparing for the trip. So if you're planning to dress in theme, be willing to be in the minority and be comfortable with that or communicate with a group going at the same time to ensure participation. A group of us from CCC had planned some additional theme nights as well, and I enjoyed those too! Did discover for my husband and I that we're a little more comfortable being able to hide in the crowd when it comes to theme night dress-up so with this being a smaller resort and not many participating it took us a little outside of our comfort zone. Not a criticism of the resort, just something we learned about ourselves in the process. Our CCC white night/glow night was one of the most successful themes....had a great time! Also really enjoyed Bruce's guitar & singing sessions; only thing that could have made them better was a lit fire pit to sit around …. just wish I could have stayed awake longer!!

Off resort we walked around San Jose del Cabo and ate at the Corner Restaurant, which I highly recommend! Their margaritas are the BEST and their "Shit on the Grass" shot is the perfect dessert shot! Also went on a sunset booze cruise out to the Arches, which was beautiful! Would highly recommend getting out there! Used buses & taxis....never had a problem with either.

Finally, what really makes every trip worthwhile are the special people that spent time enjoying it with you.....It was great to meet and spend time with Kim & Bruce, Jeff & Deb, Gordon, Donald & Bonnie and last but certainly not least Lisa & Jim. There were several more couples and singles that we enjoyed talking with but names escape me. So if we met you, talked to you, waved at you, or toasted with you.....thank you for helping us have a great vacation! A special thanks to Donald for taking some great pics, it was nice getting to know you & Bonnie!

Oh.....one last thing....... the golf group was replaced on Monday by a decent sized group of single women vactioning together. So my idea that this is more of a "couples" resort was pretty much blown out of the water. It wasn't a problem in any way for me, but I was just a little surprised.

So, all in all it was a successful vacation! Yes, it is different than Cancun. I've been to each place once and enjoyed both. If anyone would force me to say which I would return to more often I would say Cancun just on the basis of the travel (air) expense. Cost quite a bit more airfare wise to get to Cabo from Florida. Each vacation was great and neither was a waste of our time or money! Hope all of you that decide to check it out enjoy your time relaxing as much as we did!

Great report it was so nice meeting you both. I'm hoping we all meet up again in April. I still can't get over how lucky we are to have met such wonderful people on this site, and keep meeting more.

I was going to make a comment about me not doing a trip report but didn't want to start anything.

Glad you guys had a good time and hope to meet up with you again.
Cheers

Thank you for TR, we are still trying to decide if we are returning to Cancun or going to try Cabos. We, like you, prefere to blend into the crowd more then be the stand outs, but we do like participating. Very undecided where we should go...I guess there are worse things that could be troubling me then what tropical resort we should travel to..lol

Any advise is greatly appreciated...loved TTR Cancun

I don't regret going at all. It's absolutely beautiful there! I would say go during a time that a strong CCC group is going and you should be just fine blending. I know that there is a pretty large group going in April; if the timing is good for y'all I would suggest going then. Whichever tropical destination you decide on, just remember a drink on the beach is always better than a drink on the porch!! LOL
