| I was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them or what they would do about it. We had a group of 6 chairs. I got up and went to the bathroom. When I came back 5 min. later, there was a girl in my chair. It was right near the jacuzzi tubs and all of her friends were in the jacuzzi. I looked at my wife and shrugged my shoulders and went in the pool. I didn't care at first. People around me in the pool had noticed what happend and we were all keeping an eye on her. We all were just joking about it. After about 1/2 hour, she tried to sit back in the chair and felt my shirt and my sunscreen. The picked them up and dropped them on the ground. My wife "said to her I will take those, they are my husbands." The other people in the pool couldn't believe she would do that. I was comfortable in the pool and jacuzzi, so I still didn't need my chair back. About another hour went by, and she was sleeping in my chair. It was right in the middle of our group of chairs. All of my friends and wife were talking around and over her. Chinos started a game in the pool, so my wife joined me over by the pool bar. Next time I look over at my chair, this girls boyfriend was taking my wifes things off her chair and putting them on the ground. We didn't really care, because we were participating with Chinos in the game. When the game was over, I went back to our chairs and tapped the guy on the shoulder. I said "you are in my wifes chair. She is going to want to sit there when she gets out of the bathroom." The guy shruggs his shoulders and turns away. I said, "you can sit there until she comes back, but then, it is hers." He completely ignored me. She came back and we stood behind them talking to our friends who were on both sides on them, picked our things up off the ground that were between them, trying to make them uncomfortable, and they still would not move. I wasn't sure what to do. It was getting pissed. My wife could tell I was pissed and just said "lets go to the bar or go grab snack." When we came back, they were gone and our friends had taken our seats back. What would you have done? |

| Given those exact circumstances? in reality, probably not much different than you did. Life's too short to get into some major hassle with some jerk over a chair, and my better half would have been full of ideas to distract me if I started flexing my beer-muscles . Really, it's too bad that it can't just be a big, friendly party all the time, or that some folks don't go along to get along. It'll be interesting to see what other responses you get tho.... |

| I would bet he was a newbie. We had a guy sit in our chairs one time and took a towel as he left. We talked to chinos and got our towel back. We kept a level head and all worked out. Last edited by bonmitzi; 01-11-2012 at 06:25 PM. Reason: Spelling |

| First if someone is settling into your chair let the new person know right away, by leaving it for an hour or two they probably thought that the chair was abandoned. As for the guy let it go. Nothing good comes from a fight. Also personally if you want to save chairs and you have a group of 6 or so only take 2 chairs or so. Since you are mostly in the water use that 2 or 3 chairs to hold your stuff. Then there are more chairs for all to use.

| Been there, done that..... Was in the pool when some woman came over and dumped my stuff on the chair next to mine and sat down. Told her it my chair and she said "you weren't using it!" I said.. 'You've got to be kidding! I'm right here!" She started mouthing off and like you said, I was on vacation and just didn't want the fight.. but in my most quite voice I let everyone around us know that there was some lady coming around claiming chairs if you weren't physically sitting in them so just a heads up! So everyone is looking at her, she mumbles for a while, I head back to the pool laughing and a little while later she was gone. So I guess what worked for both of us is a quick public embarrassment and then walk away, they will go usually as quickly as they came. ![]() But always remember you're on vacation and it's not worth the worry and if you flex the beer muscle you risk getting thrown out of the hotel. Whoever is in a fight, no matter who starts it, gets tossed. Just start body shots at the bar and don't let them in... Jamie |

| As I'm reading (McKellar77) plight, I couldn't help but feel my East Coast blood pumping with anger. And then comes Jamie with a calming voice and excellent advice. Something like my Dad would say to me. |

| I had this same thing happen to me when a group of four over took our two chairs plus another couples (with all our stuff on them) while we werent gone that far, not even in the pool. I had not realize they had the chairs the day before which means it has to be theirs the rest of the week they are there.... I kinda just sat back in my chair with them all around and ended up sharing nicely with the others the rest of the day... I was too stubborn to walk away, but not ready to ruin my own time.... But wait, I was wondering, a chinos game? When was this, is he back? I leave on friday, will he be there and I didn't hear anything (been a bit busy getting ready to leave work) |

The week that we were there, it was pretty cold. We spent most of the time in our chairs and NOT in the pool.

| Sorry more of a general thing I find lots of people plop their stuff in a chair and spend the rest of the day in the pool. It can be frustrating sometimes to be at poolside at 2pm and every chair has something on it but only 10% have people in them. I always just put my stuff to the side and get in the pool anyways

| K, how much I was I in the pool? Like almost never.... That time I spent the day sitting in between the people who stole our chairs.... But, I agree, it's really annoying to try to look for a chair at 9am, not be able to find one, only to have most of them sit empty just about all day long. Well, for those of us who use our chairs. |

| Us brits laugh at the germans in resorts around the med., for getting up at the crack of dawn to put out towels on sunbeds. Its like a mission for them to reserve beds ,,, even if they arnt going to use them most of the day. It can be a real pain wanting somewhere to sit and loads of unused beds,, after all we all pay for them in our holiday. Wouldnt dream of takeing over one ,,thats totally out of order,,, but if people were a bit more reasonable with 'their territory ' and if they are away for any length of time ,, take your gear and let someone else use the facility of the hotel. They are there for us all.... |

| I think it was handled in a great way. We usually only have one or two chairs for several people. It is just a place to keep your belongings off the pool deck so they don't get wet. We are always in the pool or at the bar. |

When my wife and I were on our last cruise, we shared a chair for about an hour while staring at an empty one across from us. I used the chair, I put his shirt on top of mine. When he came back about an hour later, I gave his seat back. No problems!

... unfortunately ... is this not rather a reciprocal attitude bewteen brits and germans (and others) and obviously this attitude is not a question on which side of the ocean your are ! i feel the situation as described has been handled absolutely in the right way. personally .. when we have our chairs not in use for a longer time (say at a lunch break ... etc) we give them free and hope others do the same so we have a chance to find other free ones when returning. the holiday is too short to have a serious hassle about such matter. so keep cool and behave respectful and anyone will feel comfortable in the same way. cheers from good ole germany!

| We usually travel with another couple, we take turns going down early to reserve 4 chairs by putting shirts or towels on it, we use it all day, and if we meet other people that are fun and looking, we have shared two of them as it gets warmer and people spend more time in the pool (doesn't always happen in Feb.) Just takes some common courtesy. |
