Default Stopping at Walmart on way to TTR

Booking transfers soon and wondering if people find it worth stopping at Walmart on the way in.

What items are good to not bother packing and to just buy at Walmart?

How is the booze selection/prices at Walmart? Is there a liquor store close to TTR with a better selection/prices? Duty free at the airport the way to go? Looking to bring some booze home to the States after our stay...not really to save a few bucks as much as to score some stuff that I can't find at home.

Anything else to consider?

Thanks!

There is a great liquor store directly across the street from Wal-mart...It's called the La Europa. They have a huge selection of everything (flavored vodkas, tons of tequila, beer, etc.) Definitely worth stopping if you are particular about the type of liquor you drink - or to have a bottle or two in your room!

We save our trip to Walmart for the morning after we arrive. We just want to get to the resort and don't want to be rushed while we're shopping...anything that we don't have with us we can wait until the next day to get.

If the only thing you are planning on buying is liquor and/or smokes, just pick it up at the duty free in the airport and save yourself a trip to WalMart.

Thanks for all the info...

Is there a "mega store" across from TTR? Would this have just about anything you might need but just at a higher price (I would imagine)?

We always bus it to Walmart and then cab it back with all our goodies. It's also the best place to stock up on Red Bull...a heck of a lot cheaper than buying it at the gift shop.

It really depends on what is important to you. Time or money? Time is more important to us so we just go across the street and buy some Absolute, Red Bull and Diet Dew. I dread going to Wal Mart as it is so you are not going to get me there unless I forget all of my make-up, etc...in a St. Louis hotel.

Nice to know they have diet dew across the street. I usually drink 20-24 onces every morning (as my coffee) and have brought them down in my luggage in previous trips. That sure will make my luggage lighter.

Sure no problems there...the more the merrier. I warn you though it will probably be nice and early...don't want the day to be wasting away!

Ok, so it might just be me (Corey) coming with you...lol...Nahh, Im sure Shannon will get up extra early one morning to make the trip...She better if she plans on drinkin some of the redbull Im gonna have to bring back with me....any stuff you recommend not bringing because its easier to get at Walmart as opposed to bringing it in our luggage?

I would advise pesos, I have read some of the local threads on here and they are starting to get resistance using dollars there. Just make sure you can use your bank card in Mexico (all it takes is to call a bank) and make a withdrawl at an ATM, look for a 'real bank one' common ones are HSBC, and Scotiabank. Like the bar ones at home the privately owned ones always charge you more!

Use your credit card if you have one. They give you a fare exchange rate and its less cash you have to carry, and you get your Reward points if applicable.
Call your provider before departure to avoid any problems.
