Default First timer with questions

First time single goin feb. 19th. What is the best way to avoid time share presentation? I get into mexico at 10 am. Also, what is the earliest rooms are ready? I should be at the resort by 11 am since i got a direct transfrer, and am not above tipping to get my room early.

Best way to avoid time share people is to tell front desk that this is not your first time here. Then, also tell the time share people that you have already heard the presentation, and are not interested. There is a chance your room could be ready, depending on how full the hotel is. And you could throw a $20 at them and see what happens, but it is no sure thing.

After checking in, one of the resort reps will explain your weeks activities to you, give you a map of the hotel, what time breakfast, lunch, dinner is available at and where you'll need to go to make reservations for the ala carte restaurants. At the end of it which only takes about 10 minutes, and the info is very helpful if it is your first time there, then they will explain to you about the tour and ask for a $10 to $30 deposit for the time share tour. Although we said we were not interested, they still pushed a bit for a free bottle of tequila, t-shirt, or a insulated thermos, and apparently you get your deposit back.

We said we had no money for the deposit yet and that we weren't interested at all, they still booked it the following morning by calling us at 9am and eventually knocking on the door. We just ignored them and went and had breakfast and didn't hear back from them at all during the balance of our stay.

Oh yeah, and as soon as you get to your room, might as well unplug the phone right away so you don't forget to do it later because they will be calling you every morning around 8:30/9:00am.

Really??? We had a totally different experience our first time. We got the tip from this site to tell the resort we'd been there before to avoid the timeshare thing, and it worked just fine. We recieved no phone calls the entire week. Oh well, different experiences for different folks I suppose.

Kristenanddoug are right--unplug the phone! We had the same problem with morning calls our first time until we did that. I couldn't tell you if they ever called the second visit because I unplugged it the second we got there.

It's not very nice, but if you want the map and overview and want to make it up to your room without a 15-minute argument about why you need the "breakfast" you can set up a time slot, refuse to pay the deposit (We just said no firmly, twice, and they accepted it) and then unplug the phone and not show up.

Tell them it is your 5th trip and head straight to the sexy pool and get some drinks.

All good replies... we typically get there early afternoon. Room still may or may not be ready and yes, once you have your wristband on, enjoy the beverages at the the sexy pool bar. Giving a tip may help, and definitely does to get a better room. Especially if you have one that faces off the resort (such as the rooms that face the street).

We tell them to stick it the minute we walk in the door. We have been there 14 times and never done a presentation. Don't answer the phone in the room either when they call in the more. See your representative at the Alternative bar for excursions. Just tell them you are not wasting a minute of time on timeshares.

Does anyone here have the timeshare?? What's their selling point in the presentation? My friend from work (who happens to be there right now) swears there some secret underground club for "members only". He's going to break in sometime this week!

Tell them that you are from the UK, they have never given us any hassle! They probably think it's too far for us to come!

whats with the deposit????

in cabo last year, we got suckered into it on the line" its an orientation to the resort" so we went. got a 5 min meeting, a 5 min walk around the resort, then the girl tried her hand at the time share. no thanks. at that point, we were passed off to a "canadian" who "loves it here so much he went to work here" and he really put the high pressure on. he was told no thanks, at least 4 times, and finally, after having enough, i said to him, look, apparently no isnt in you vocabulary, so may be "F OFF is". and left.

no more problems.

but i dont understand what the deposit is for. the enticement last year was a free excursion whale watching.

Now I understand what the deposit is for. The first two times we scheduled the "tour" to avoid the harrassment and then never showed up. It's a great way for them to make sure you show back up the next morning.

The phone calling must be new. We never got a phone call the previous two years. Then again we are normally up and out of the room by 8am, so maybe we just always missed it.

Forgot to say, make sure you have a bathing suit and sunscreen in your carry-on. If you can't get into a room, you can change, let them hold your bags, and start the party

As for the deposit, they try to entice you to the timeshare presentation by offering you a free gift like a mug or bottle of tequila, then ask for a deposit to "hold" the gift for you.

Thanks so much for all the info. What about Cocobongos trip with resort. I have been to Cancun 6 times (first time at TTR), and have been to just about every club.

We checked in early, was told to come back at 3 for the room and as we stepped away one of the representatives snagged us, we sat down, listened to her presentation and maps, when she asked to sign us up for the tour I simply told her no thank you, I book travel on spur of the moment & couldn't really plan to far in advance. She offered a $50 coupon if we would meet her in the morning & I said "really. we aren't interested at all and it would be a waste of both of our time", she accepted it & we went off to find the bar, no pressure, no calls and no problems at all.
