Default Water at the resort

So, I've read here that they give you a liter of water a day - but is there not water available at the resort (bottled water)?

We drank the water from the resort straight out of the tap in the bathroom, had no problems what so ever. Yes they give you a bottle a day everyday, regardless if you use it or not. You can get bottled water at the bars, restaurant's, the on site store or just across the street from the resort at the 2 stores, less than a 3 min walk sober, 7 minutes if you're hammered.

If you're really not sure about that option, theres a Wal-Mart there also which I am sure you can get a case of water if you really need

You can drink the water out of the tap gun at the bar, or the tap in the room, we have been thee 3 times and never got sick, I drink a ton of water. Just bring your own insulated cups with a lid for the pool, you really don't want pool water in your drink, or you might get sick.

Being a germaphobe I lean the other way......We never drink the water out of the tap. We always use the bottle water to brush our teeth also. When showering you can smell iffy contents in the water..... Not saying the water is bad but it is not going to be what your system is used to for sure. Our theory is why risk it when you don't have too.

I had good intentions to use bottled water to brush my teeth, but tired and drunk on our second day, I forgot, and used the tap in the bathroom. Didn't get sick so stuck with the tap for the rest of the holiday and had no issues.

I think this is a much bigger concern than the resort water. I got pretty sick one day and I'm 90% sure it was because of the pool water getting in my drink. After 24hrs I felt fine and watched my drinks more closesly whenever in the pool.

They will give you a 1 liter bottle, but you can leave a note and ask for more from your maid (tipping helps). We have never had any problems drinking from the bottled water they give you or the tap gun. We use tap water to brush our teeth.

The water at the resort is fine. If you venture off resort, it's questionable. Remember that ice is made out of water and all your food is washed in water, so regardless of what people think, they likely haven't avoided tap water at the resort. If I head off resort into backwoods areas, I usually stick with beer. Bottled water is usually just tap water in a bottle. I don't believe that being in a bottle gives it any sort of miraculous sanitation traits and I seriously doubt that sanitation standards in a Mexican bottling plant are any more extensive than in a resort in Cancun.

If you do develop problems and you suspect water to be the culprit, just drink beer instead. Fermentation actually has a lot more sanitation properties than placing something in a bottle.

I drank the water out of the tap every day I was there this year and last year and never got sick. Also you will notice a sign above the sink in the bathroom saying it is drinkable water. They have a whole resort filtering system. Yes the water doesn't really taste like the one I have from my well but when you need to keep the water in you when you are drinking so much it works. I also bring a 52 oz bubba keg and go to the bar in the buffet and have them put ice and water in it for me in the morning and during the day.
