and finally Normskids Guide to the Breakfast Buffet

We get lots of questions regarding the food at BBG and many have posted that for them, breakfast is the best meal of the 3, so I figured that I'd let those who've never been know what your missing if you sleep in and don't get up til after noon:

First, as you walk into El Embarcadero, on your immediate left is a complete waffle station. There will be a young lady there making waffles to order. Just let her know if you need one or two. One will fill up your entire plate, however, if you are ordering for you & your spouse, tell her 2.

She will pour the batter into the grittle and within about 3 minutes you'll have a nice hot waffle to sink your teeth into. But your not done yet....they have fresh strawberries, fresh pinapple, fresh peaches, to top off your waffle. There is also regular maple syrup as well as peach, chocolate, and caremel syrup. You will find honey, chocolate sprinkles, whipped cream and something pronounced "charro" (dunno what it is an was too scared to try it). They have regular butter as well as crock spread.

Here is a picture of the Waffle Station:

As you walk further into the restaurant, you will come to the main buffet area. To your immediate left is the toaster with white bread, wheat bread and various rolls and other types of bread. The toaster is self serve so grab some toast and put it into the toaster. It will go around in one cycle and be toasted and fall down the shoot.

Here is a picture of the toaster Machine that you put your bread in:

If you keep bearing to your left, (see the black lady with the blue capri's & white top) you will come to the omelette station. At the omelette station you can get a omelette made to order with whatever you want in it. Just tell the young lady what all you want an she will fix it up for you. They are heavy on the ingredients, so if you don't want alot of something, let them know as they are picking up a scoop full if that is too much.

Here is a picture of the omlette fixins:

You can also get fried eggs at the omelettte station. If you would like your eggs "over," just say so and they know what that means and will turn the egg over to cook both sides.

Some more food toppings at the Omlette Station:

This is where you'll find the pico de gallo, salsa verde, limes, etc....

Now....on to the main buffet:

There are 2 sides to the main buffet and they usually have the same, exact stuff...but every once in a blue moon, one will have something the other doesn't.

You will find scrambled eggs, fried eggs, hash brown pattys, smoked pork chops, french toast, chicken vera cruz, chicken crepes, chorizo, cheese quesadillas, link sausage, poached eggs in tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, (even though the sign says MUSHED potatos) refried beans, chicken chiqualles, and oatmeal.

Some pictures of the main part of the buffet:

For the most part, it's the same stuff every day with minor variations.

Here is a pic of the infamous "Mystery Dish"...eggs floating in some sorta red sauce. Every other day you'll find the same eggs floating in a green jello looking sauce. YUK!!!

Your still not done though....

Moving to the middle of the buffet, you will find a huge pile of whole fresh fruits. Apples (red & green), pears, mangos, bananas, grapes, kiwi and pinapples. I like to take a couple pieces from here each day to take back to the room to put in the frige for late night snacks. Bring your own knife from home to cut your fruit with, those at BBG are sorta dull and hard to cut fruit with.

There are also some cold cuts here as well.

Here is a pic:

Don't be too greedy and snatch the whole pinapple like I saw one guy do!LOL!!! I think it's just for display...but the other whole fruit is for the taking.

To the right of the pile of fresh whole fruit is the Horchata (rice water)...it is a REALLY refreshing drink that looks like dirty milk, but tastes more like cinnamon flavored sweet milk. It tastes ALOT better than it looks. Try it, you'll proly like it.

To the right of the Horchata is the fresh squeezed Juice bar.

To the right of the Juice bar is the fresh bread & pastry section. Here you will find your Mexican breads & pastries....they are MUCH better than the American breads in my opinion....try them! Nice & moist! There is also banana bread & yellow cake if you want something sweet.

Here is a pic of the Mexican breads:

Moving on around the bend, to the right of the Mexican bread section is your yogurt bar. There is strawberry, peach, and plain yogurt. You will also find cottage cheese, chopped nuts, granola, raisins, and coconut for toppings.

Just to the right of the yogurt bar is the freshly sqeezed orange juice & watermelon juice dispenser:

Some people say the watermelon juice tastes too watery, however, it is freshly squeezed an watermelons are primarily water, not full of sugar! If you need it to be sweeter, add your own sugar to it, but it tastes the way it's suppose to as is.

Moving further around the bend you will come to the mixed fruit bar. Here you will find all sorts of fresh fruit already cut up and ready to eat. There is watermelon, cantalope, pinapple, honey dew melon, oranges, grapfruit, cherries, papaya, prunes, and peaches.

Moving down further you will find the dry cereal. There is Trix, Corn Flakes, Fibra Max & Corn puffs.

That's the bulk of what you'll find for breakfast.........

Anybody hungry!

Michelle

YEAH, SO WAS THE REACTION EVERYONE BACK HOME GOT WHEN HE WENT TO WORK. AND HE HAS TO DEAL WITH PUBLIC.

SO, EVERYONE WHO KNOWS US, THOUGHT I PUNCHED HIS LIGHTS OUT.

NICE THOUGHT, BUT I WOULDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO DO THAT. MAYBE A LITTLE SLIP OF THE WRIST WITH THE FRISBY, BUT I WOULD NEVER BE THAT LUCKY.

The room service is outstanding. When we were there, someone came back up to our room every 30-45 minutes with new cocktails!! You can't be that!!!

In the VIP info packet that was given to me, there was two door hangers that you can use for ordering room service. It had the same items that Karan listed with a box next to it where you can put the amount of each item wanted.

Here I am, running around the house looking for the waffle station. Those waffles are to die for!! The omlettes are great too. A couple of times there, I was in a panic, because I overslept and thought I was going to miss my favorite meal. It's funny, here at home, I will have maybe a bowl of cereal for breakfast. When I get there, that is my biggest meal of the day. I can't get enough of it! I think that's why I pack on a few lbs. every time I go!

Terri, I'm so the same! I'll have granary toast or cereal or fruit at home, but at BBG, I was packing in the sausages, hash browns, pastries, and more! Yum tiddly um pum! Never had a waffle though (apart from potato ones, yum!), so as told by Michelle & Karan, I will be having one of them in May!

I know.....I rarely eat a thing for breakfast here at home. Sometimes on the weekend, I'll go out for brunch or something...but hardly ever make anything for myself for breakfast.

I don't think I've ever gained weight at BBG....I usually loose 10-15 pounds per trip depending on how long I'm there.

Great info on the best meal. The only one small detail that me and possibly a few other people like but wasn't mentioned is:

At the same place that area that you order the omelettes you will find: Pico de Gallo, a green salsa and another salsa/hot sause.

Beware: they are hot

On the contrary, I look forward to it Michelle, really I hoped I'd be further on by now with adding new stuff whatever format you have it in let me know and I'll get things sorted soon. Once I get a car then I hope to gather alot more info too.

But what with sorting out the medical care for Jannet and the baby, furnishing the house, getting used to the Mexican way of doing things, I seem to be out all day - I heard it was frustrating but now I'm finding out for myself.

Here's one for you, did you know that downtown the daily ATM limits are less than half the amount of the hotel zone - so unless I get a taxi to the hotel zone then I have to visit the ATM (a 15 minute walk away) on 4 consecutive days just to get my rent money then on the 5th day I have to go (in a taxi) to the bank and queue for an hour or so to pay it in to the landlords account.

We havent had the telephone, water or elec bill yet - and they are just as much fun!

Jen...I forgot about the sausages!!! You really have to try a waffle, you'll be hooked.

Mikey...I knew you would remember the "hot stuff!"

Michelle...how the hell do you LOSE weight??? I guess I'm just a human garbage disposal while on vacation (it's all pent up eating from the other 50 weeks of the year) I'll eat anything!

Steve...you are so right. If you have any questions at all about Cancun,(as well as anything else) just ask Michelle!

I think I know why:

Trivia & Top Ten
Burn those holiday calories away

Okay, so it's the day after Christmas and you're stuffed to the gills with goose, packed with prime rib, hefty from ham, and crammed with cranberry sauce. A trip to that evil enemy, the scale, reveals that you're either wearing 10-pound snow boots or mom's mince pie has done a number on your waistline. What's a person to do?

You're options are limited —you can either do a crapload of speed for a few weeks, or you can peel off the pound with sensible diet and exercise. And since neither of these sounds like very much fun (particularly the latter), I've got another one. F**k those calories away!

Here's a list of popular sex-related activities, and the amount of calories each one burns (courtesy of our pals at Sex News Daily). So have fun burnin' off that fudge, and God bless us, every one.

As Karan stated, Dos Equis on tap is the ONLY beer they serve.

Items 1,2 and 3 are cocktails made with beer.

Amber.

It's about half way between a regular and a lite beer, maybe closer to the regular level.

Well.... if I drank beer I might know better.

I thought Amber was the light colored beer and Lager were the dark....

Got to take up beer class with that spanish class.... back to school.

Hummm.......let me jus add to the confusion.

Dos XX that they serve at BBG is the "Dos XX lager" (the stuff in the green bottle, when bottled), however, it's a pilsner & Dos XX Amber is a lager.

Check out the FAQ on the website.......

http://www.dosxx.com/dos_faq/dos_faq_index.htm

only in Mexico!!!!
