| General Information to be used to decide if Blue Bay Getaway is the type of resort that you are looking for: 1. Where is it located? Blue Bay Getaway (BBG) is located at kilometer 3.5 in the hotel zone. It is on the bay side (the top of the 7) where the water is calmer. It is only a short bus ride to party central and an equally short ride to get downtown. 2)What type of resort is it? There are a number of ways to answer that question: 1) BBG is Adults only and no one under 21 is allowed to stay at the resort. 2) Although BBG now comprises what use to be 3 separate resorts, it is NOT a mega resort like some of them are in Cancun. You will not find long lines to get into the restaurants to eat. You will have to make reservations to eat at the specialty restaurants though, due to space limitations. 3) Contrary to what some people have been lead to believe, BBG is NOT anything like Hedonism in Jamaica. BBG is not clothing optional, it's topless optional AT THE POOL AND BEACH ONLY. You will not see women wandering all over the premises without tops on. You will not see hoards of people engaging in lewd sex acts all over the premises. This is not to say that a random, odd, person won't ever be seen in the pool butt naked. It has happened, but it is NOT the norm by any stretch of the imagination. 4) BBG is an all-inclusive resort. The price of your stay includes all food in all of the restaurants, including the ala carte ones, all drinks including those with alcohol, all activities and all non-motorized water sports such as canoe, kayak, sailboards, etc. What about the swingers/nudists and perverts? BBG is NOT a resort full of swingers, nudists or perverts. Sure, the over 21 only age restriction will attract a certain type of person, however, swinging, full nudity and perverts are the rare exception, NOT the rule at BBG. It is neither promoted by the staff nor condoned by the average traveler to BBG. That beinig said, if you have "issues" with topless women in general...book another resort as topless bathing is allowed and enjoyed by many at BBG. Why be uncomfortable and make others around you uncomfortable if you know in advance you don't approve of topless bathing. Book a more familiy oriented resort where you'll find lots of children to be on the "safe" side. In addition, if seeing some limited full nudity would cause you to be offended, book another resort. The odds are not great that you will see any full nudity unless you are looking for it, but why risk it if you know in advance that you would find it highly offensive. Book a more family oriented resort where you'll find lots of children to be on the "safe" side. Lastly, if you are a swinger or nudist, try Desire Resort as they cater to alternative lifestyles and BBG doesn't. It's just not that type of party!!! Are the rooms nice or are they more on the run down, weather worn side? This depends on which room you get, as with any hotel in Cancun. However, BBG has recently gutted out and renovated all of the oldest rooms on the premises (Sections A,B, & C) which use to get continuous complaints from visitors. There are still some rooms that could use some renovation work, but for the most part, most of the rooms are now habitable and would be acceptable to the average 4 star traveler. How is the beach? If a awesome beach is one of your top priorities in picking a resort, then BBG is not where you want to be. You will want to pick a resort on the Carribean side, a little bit south of party central. That being said, the beach at BBG is not the worst in Cancun. There is, however, seaweed and even some fish at times. To get to the better beaches in Cancun just hop on the bus, pay your 6 pesos, and get off anyplace along the hotel zone after you pass the Kin Ha. All beaches in Cancun are public so it's not difficult to find a great beach for swimming. If you want some wave action, then you'll want to get off the bus just past "party central" and on the caribbean side you'll find some waves to splash around in or boogie board in. Do they have a Spa or health club? Yes, there is a brand new health club and spa at BBG. The 2nd level contains free weights, tread mills, stationary bikes, some machines, a television and is ocean view. The 1st floor contains the dressing rooms, massage rooms, Jacuzzi's, etc.. Use of the facility is included, however, special services like facials and massages require a separate fee. They also have a beauty salon should you want to get your hair done prior to heading back home. Nice feature to have if you got your hair braided in Cancun and don't want to remove the braids yourself before heading home. How many pools do they have? There are 3 pools. The "sexy pool" is in the 2nd phase area and they start playing the music at 10:30am each morning. There are 4 built in Jacuzzi's in the pool and a swim up bar. There is a sports pool in the 1st phase area. This is where they play water basketball and tequila volleyball. There is a pool identical to the sexy pool in the 3rd phase area, where the rooms with the 4 digit numbers are. Do they have internet access or a business center? They don't have a business center, however, they do have 1 working computer with internet access in the lobby. The cost to use them is 50 pesos for 30 minutes. Do they have room service? The only room service that they have is for continental breakfast. There is a doorcard that you fill out indicating what you would like and what time you would like it delivered. You simply hang the card on your outside doorknob the night before and they will deliver your continental breakfast. Do they have servi-bars in the rooms? No, some rooms have empty mini refrigerators, but none of them are stocked with anything. Most people get munchies and their favorite beer to keep on hand for after the bars at BBG close at 1am. Do they use purified water or provide bottled water? Yes, to both questions. They do have a purified water system at the resort. You will find a bottle of water in your room when you check-in. There is also a 5 gallon bottled water machine in the main restaurant for guests to use to re-fill their bottles. There is also bottled water for sale in the gift shop. Can I book tours at BBG? Yes, there are several different tour desks at BBG. If you book a package to BBG, you will find your tour representative has a desk at BBG and can book the tours you want to do. If you booked independently, there are also a few independent tour desks that will book tours for you. How many different restaurants to they have? They have 6 different restaurants. The main buffet restaurant is called El Embarcadero and it sits in the middle of the property. There is a snack bar called La Lagarta which is near the sports pool. There is Las Margarita's Bar & Grill which is just outside the lobby. There is a Chinese ala carte restaurant called the Village Wok. There is an ala carte Italian restaurant called Il Piacere. There is also a seafood restaurant now. How many different bars do they have? There are 5 bars at BBG. There is Diego's Pool bar, Las Margarita's bar, Nice shoes Video bar, the alternative game room bar and the theater bar. I've never been to an Adults Only resort, what type of people will I find at BBG? BBG attracts a more diverse clientele than the American chain resorts or the Mega sized resorts. You will find A LOT of European travelers on two week holiday's. A lot of Canadians have recently started flooding BBG as well. There are plenty of Americans, however, depending on the week, they might not be the majority. Where can I find photos of the activities staff Right here, with more to be added soon Mario - Director of Entertainment ![]() Chinos - Assistant Director of Entertainment ![]() Omar - BBG Cast Member ![]() Alex - Cast DJ ![]() Please feel free to ask whatever questions that you have about the resort so that you can get different peoples opinions about BBG and make a truly informed decision as to whether BBG is really some place you'd like to try or not. | I have got to meet you Michelle, if we haven't already. I love the description and as a repeat offender, it’s right on. The only difference I would have is the food. But I'm a man, I'll eat anything. I do know that if you don't like the menu at the main restaurant, you can ask the Chef for something different and they'll server it up. Also asked for a birthday cake once and they came through. The best advice I could give is that the Staff at BBG are like mirrors. You smile, they smile. You act pissed off, and they let you be pissed off. That's not to say they won't do whatever it takes to make you happy, it’s just that you need to try and be happy too. I remember being at the front desk one day and after a guest walked away, apologizing to the lady behind the desk on the behalf of all Americans for the treatment she had just received. |

| Michelle, Great post, Makes me wish I was there now. We found out BBG was for us by going someplace else. We took our girls on a cruise last month and 2 days after we got home my wife asked if we could go back to BBG. I booked 9 days for June right away. Although we had a good time on our cruise it didn't come close to the fun we had at the BBG. I think we're lifers now. Pat |

| Once you've been to BBG, it is hard to find someplace else that matches it. They seem to have their own unique brand of fun--and it is very addicting. I, for one, do not plan to seek treatment for my addiction.  Karan |

| What sold us on BBG more than anything else was the "clientelle", the resort guests who visit year after year, trip after trip - a lot of whom are on this site. Bricks and mortar are important, and certainly staff is critical as well, however it would be just another good resort without the special attitude everybody seems to bring to BBG with them. For reasons unkown, people seem to check the outside world at the door, and meld into one large, off the wall group - much more so than at any other resort we have ever visited. Can't quite explain it yet, but once your in the lobby, your "home", amongst friends and family. Occasionally you experience people who simply don't get it for one reason or another, and let me tell you, they really stand out ! When we return to BBG, it will be beccause of the people. |

| I have not been there YET, but I already feel hooked. Thanks for the informative info for those of us that have not had the pleasure to stay there and want to decide on whether to stay there or not, (hope that was not too confusing). Maybe you could change the title to the post to "BBG 101", just kidding great title. I am one of those people that it does not take much to make me happy and it sounds like it would a great place. |

| You are so right, Suzie. BBG is all about the people. Everyone just sort of melts together at BBG--even if they wouldn't normally in the outside world. And the staff does their best to promote this. I have very close friends that I've mmet at BBG that I probably wouldn't have---even if we had stayed at anither resort at the same time. BBG just promotes openess and friendliness. I fel more at home there than just about any place I've ever been---it really is my "home away from home." Karan |

| Can't agree with you more... I just returned from my first trip to BBG. I took my brother and in his words, "If I die tomorrow, I die a happy man!" It was great. We met great people and had a blast. The food's not the best, the drink's not the best but the people are incredible! From Charly and Alberto at the pool bar to Alphonso in the restaurant to Enrique in the Nice Shows lounge. just great. I did join the premier club and plan on returning (with my wife) year after year. Looking forward to their newest club (Desire) opening at the end of the month. Thanks Blue Bay! |

| Club Desire is the name of the newest resort owned by BBG's owners. I'd say it is about 30 minutes from BBG and is basically a swinger's property. I believe it is set to open the end of this month or the beginning of May. Nicholas Santos, who use to be at BBG, is the manager there. Karan |

| I just returned from BBG on may 30, 2003 & had a great time. I would recommend any couple to stay there. We were honeymooning & felt like everyone was lifelong friends. I would like to make a few comments. Don't exchange your money at the fron desk unless you feel uncomfortable going downtown. The rate is about 1/2 point less than downtown but better than the exchanges in the hotel zone. We didn't receive any bottled water in our room. The water out of the tap is drinkable but not recommended. I think the coolers are filled with same water as they taste the same. Buy bottled water at the Chedraui downtown for 7 pesos for a 1.5 litre bottle. I highly recommend the Blue Bay Isla Mujeres tour & the Blue Bay booze cruise on Wednesday nights that goes to Carlos & Charlies. Definetly a highlight of our vacation. The other tours are quite expensive at the hotel. You can find then 25% cheaper downtown or free if you can sit through a timeshare presentation. By the way, all "Vacation Clubs" are time shares & 90 min is more like 3-4 hours. The food at the buffet was excellent but the a la Cartes were better except for the steakhouse. We found the steaks tasteless. Bring closed toe shoes & some light long pants for the a la Cartes as there is a dress code. Sun tan oil is very expensive at the hotel. Bring some from home or buy it downtown. If you can find it, buy biodegradable sunscreen as they will not let you use oils in the wtareparks or anytime you go snorkeling as it damages the coral. Anyways this was our 3rd visit to cancun & the Blue bay was by far the most enjoyable place to stay. Larry |

| Thanks a lot to all the fine people in this forum, specially Karan, Michelle, Steve and of course JonC, yes I got the mail with the info about the premiere membership,It was very useful, unfortunately while i was looking for good air fares my girlfrend thought it was a good idea to handle the hotel thing, and she came up with the "surprise" that she had already booked with BBG and I didn't want to start an argument, so i left it like that. Anyway it's ok, I'll start saving so that in the future I am able to get some premium stuff so Michelle thanks anyway, I've already gotten the info, and thanks Steve yes I got the mail. thank you all you're really nice people.

| much like KT I'm off to BBG in the very near future 8) the age spread in my group is from 20 yrs. old to 70 yrs. young! Is there a chance I'll get sick on the boat ride over to Illes de Majeras? I got pretty ill on the catameran ride at St. Maartens. Is there a nude beach close to BBG that would compare to Coopecoy or the Orient Beach? |

| If you're looking to get hammered till you can't stand up, then no this place is not for you. If you're looking for someplace where the women are just waiting for man to walk through the door so they can jump in bed, then no this place is not for you. If you are looking for an Adult party where there is lots of fun to be had, if you are looking for a place where the women are as hot as they are smart and discerning, if you are looking for a place where respect while partying is not only achieved but a requirement for participation, then YES, this place is for you.
