Default What to do when the weather is lousy?

Much to my dismay, the weather forecast for our stay (19th through the 24th) looks pretty rainy - calling for showers on Thursday the 19th and Friday the 20th, partly cloudy the 21st, and then showers again the 22nd through the 24th.

Questions:

1) OK, how reliable is this forecast. In my experience in Cancun in July (4 trips total), it seems like a daily splash rain is inevitable - but a "showers" forecast makes me wonder if something more organized is settling in. Any experience anyone? Steve? What's your prognostications saying?

2) If there is a rainy day, what does the resort do? Do they get some fun going in Nice Shoes? Or if it's not t-stormy and just warm rain, do they still have pool fun? What do the people do?

While I haven't been entirely against having a reason to spend a day watching (and acting out) the action on channel 12, I'm thinking 5 days of that isn't what I want ...

??

Stew,

I'm going to be there from the 20th to the 24th and really am not worried about the forecast.

This time of year it's not unusual to see showeres or t-shorms in the forecast but if it's anything like the weather the last few weeks, if it does rain it will be about 10 minutes or so and the sun will be back and dry everything up.

It has been hot!

As for what to to do on a rainy day though...check out one of the local malls..go out for lunch or dinner...head to Playa as just because it's raining in Cancun doesn't mean it's raining in Playa..the bars at BBG are still open....

There's lots to do!

This time of the year dont worry about the weather, the forecasts always say chance of showers. I think we've been back from the UK around a month or so now and it's rained about 3 or 4 times, never longer than 5 or 10 minutes.

We have been to BBG lots of times, and have never seen rain for over an hour or so. One trip was windy and cold, and that trip was obviously not in July.

Have a great time!!

mmm channel 12 ... mmm

Cool, thanks! Reason I'm raising it is we did have an experience when we went to Nassau - we went in November and had one whole day just be a complete washout. Ironically, it was also one of the most fun days we had on the trip - we toured around Nassau by public bus, ate conch salad in the "Fishfry" area, then back to the resort where the animation staff had Karaoke going in the disco, wacky games set up all around the interior of the hotel, and even little minature "clown bikes" to ride around indoors. Got bash-hammered by 3:00 in the afternoon! I guess where I was going was wondering if the resort staff (Chinos & Co.) does something like this if there's a washout day.

When we were there in January and there was a long period of rain (started about same time as Wacky Time) the games went on!! Once the rain got heavy they moved Crazy Darts into Nice Shoes and the fun continued.

If it's just rain then the animation staff makes no real changes to the scghedule...it's just done in the rain.

If it's a really heavy rain or there's lightening involved they may move the activities into Nice Shoes.

If it's a total washout and no one can even hang out under the cover of the palapas at the pool bars, they may open Nice Shoes and/or the Alernative Bar and move the pool bartenders in thre.

No DJ music or anything like that but it is a dry place to hang out and drink.

You'll also see the staff bring out ganes like Jenga etc on days like these.

Alot of times when it's calling for rain in July, it will rain in the middle of the nite also. We've sat in the bars and watched it rain and by the time we come out it was all done and over with.

I was at BBG about 5 years or so ago with a friend and we had one day of just total downpours.

We had brought a bottle of Ouzo with us and the two of us played Ouzo Jenga with Lalo. It was just the 3 of us.

He didn't fair so well and drank about half the bottle..Chinos had to send him home by 2 o'clock because he was so messed up.

Our Jenga game was the drinking variety as well - in the picture I linked to, the guy with the goatee was puked, passed out, slept it off and back in action all within 5 hours - legendary!
