    Would some of you TTR veterans do us newbies a favor and give us your best advice for keeping the dreaded "Membership sales pitch" short and painless? We've got just five night there and thus would like to make the most of every minute. How quickly after arriving from the airport does this sales pitch begin, and what's the fastest way to get to the end of it and head out to the pool or off to our room? Thanks so much.

    When they approach you raise your pointer finger wave it side to side and politely say not and keep on walking that is what I do. It is a little direct but straight to the point.

    From previous visit they don't actually do the sale pitch now, they want to schedule a breakfast with you after a few days and then do their sales pitch.
    We just tell them no thank you, if they ask why, we just say not interested. They are there to do their job, no need to be rude with them.
    Usually a no thank you, will be enough and they will let you alone. If they don't understand after that we just ignoring him and by 2-3 minutes he leave us alone.
    First year we made the mistake to talk with them and start the pitch sale, so we had to unplug the phone since they were no stop calling.
    The resort isn't big and anyone will be happy to give you direction if you need too.
    If ( and only if ) they still bother you schedule them the last morning ( if you leave early ), or tell them you are just here to check out the new concept. :)

    Enjoy and havefun ! :)

    They are defiantly more pushy with the new resort. We had to decline several times, not just once. When we would walk into the lobby area days after check-in and they would see white bracelets they would come running. We had one to follow us into the gift shop. We tried our best to be nice, but we finally ignored them to the point where we would not even acknowledge when spoken too. Good luck.

    How about if you go on a referral and are obligated to attend?

    Well, you decide to go on a referral, you got discounted price but you need to attend the presentation. The premier member offer you a vacation at a discounted price.. The way to return the favor is to attend the presentation and they get that credit. ( make sure to take a picture of what you sign at the end ).
    Tell them you want to go breakfast BUT don't need any tour, or any premier tour. The presentation is only about 90 minutes if you don't talk and let him speak.
    It's the price to pay when using a referral and premier perk.

    we went on referrals twice and bought the second time. If you want to keep it as short as possible ask to skip the breakfast and go straight to the sales meeting. You are only obligated for 90 minutes, when the 90 minutes us up tell them you have met your obligation and are not interested. It will take about 15 more minutes but if you are polite but firm with them you will be out in about 100-105 minutes. total. That's what we did and it was fairly painless.

    Right away, tell only one of you will make final decision and another one just listen. You will save 50% of your time. ;-) My husband told he will do whatever I decide. lol
    You can tell you are not interested in any expensive package so salesman can start from cheapest one. Or he will explain about all options and it will take longer.
    He will ask how many weeks you go away per year. You should answer: Just 1 week. :) If you tell more he will offer more expensive package for more days and explain everything again fore less expensive one...
    Just listen him and do not ask any questions. More you (or your partner ) ask longer he will explain. ;-) Tell yes every time when salesmen ask do you understand it... even if you do not understand. :)
    I made it really short when I told I cannot afford it when salesman make a finale offer. :) He will offer make a credit with monthly payments and use a credit card... I answer I do not like any credit and I will never have one! Sorry, but no credit :) Well... this is not true but it works with him. :)
    Do not afraid to tell "sorry but not interested" every time when he will ask you. After 5 minutes he will give up. lol
    Good luck ;-)

    So I will include this in my trip report as we just went on a referral and did the presentation Friday. I planned to start a clock and nicely tell them I was not buying in but we would stay for the required 90 minutes so our friends got the credit. Well that was the plan at least.

    I sat down and started the clock with the check in person. Then they brought over our sales rep, Regina. Oh my Regina. Let’s just say they must of done their research on my type as jen knew right away I was in trouble. 2 hours 30 mins later and instead of thinking about walking away I was thinking about ... can I get in trouble if I say ‘ok I will buy in if you throw in Regina for a night?’ Is that offensive? Harrassment? Would they actually say yes? As of course as part of the sales pitch she was flirting, mentioning she was ls, telling stories about her and Diego (her boyfriend and boss) experiences on the boobs cruise. Apparently they went on a couple @Steve ? Or was that just a sales story.

    Anyway I didn’t drop the line out of fear they would say yes and frankly the $ wasn’t even close to making sense. And eventually they kicked us out after I started to get naked and did some groping ha just kidding. In reality eventually I came to my senses when I heard yelling at the sexy pool and we said ok enough is enough and just left. But wow we lucked out w Regina as our sales rep.

    On our first trip two years ago, when they tried to set something up, I simply said no, at that was it. No pressure. We just got back, last week, and had to use a referral, so I was anticipating/dreading the presentation. There is zero chance we will ever buy, as we really shouldn't be spending anyway with a son nearing college in a year. Anyway, they messed up our check-in some how, and the presentation never came up. The guy we got the referral from was there at the time, and got them to sign that they screwed up, and that they hadn't scheduled or contacted us. Worked out great for us, and he got his bonus.

    We met a great couple that told us they would give us a referral next time, and they didn't care about the kick-back, so they said they don't care if we skip the presentation, and don't sign the paper saying we listened. Definitely keeping that one in my back pocket.

    In two trips I have seen zero sales pressure. Just lucky I guess.

    Tell them you are there with your girlfriend/boyfriend and your wife/husband can't know about it.

    Oh, man! That sounds really annoying. We aren't on a referral so aren't obligated to do anything. I'd just like to be polite and say "no" and be left to go on our way. We've been through this kind of thing twice in the D.R. and once at Secrets in Playa Mujeres and it's a pain. Just looking for a tried and true method of being nice but firm, and then escaping the scene.

    We have never had any pressure.... a polite no thanks was enough! Maybe it is the accent! Lol...

    I would suggest listening to the 90 minute thing then just say, sorry, but our trip was paid as a present from our parents for our birthday/anniversary/other.... otherwise we couldn't afford it as we are both unemployed! Lol...

    We went in late September a simple no thank you and do not answer your room phone, all is well.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It helps if you dress like you’re French :
    Oh, and with the makeup you don’t even have to parlez-vous Français.
    You’ll be able to get out of the meeting, but remember you’ll be stuck in a box.
