My wife and I are planning our first trip here and are shooting for May or June of 2018. What would you guys suggest as a good trip length. I'm all for "as many days as the in-laws will keep the kids for", but wasn't sure if there is a point where the trip starts to feel too long. My wife always tells me that longer isn't always better, thank god ;), but I'm thinking 8-10 days would be a good first trip.

I know she wants to do some scuba diving and we don't want to feel like we're missing out on too much at the resort if we do anything away from it.

Each day of the week is different. We always do seven so we can experience each day of the week.

I would say you definitely want to do at least 5, but 7 days seems like the sweet spot.

Second time going, second time 8 days.
Obviously personal preference but we thought 8-9 is great and going for it again. 7 feels too short, 10 MAY feel a little dragged out.

I think 7 days is a perfect number to start with...that's what we did on our first trip and then we've also done 5 nights, 9 nights and now we are doing 11 nights in another few weeks (I might die-totally worth it!!!!!)

Due to our flight to get there being nearly 10 hours, we always stay for 14 nights. We did Desire for 7 nights one year and was just not long enough!

As grandparents ourselves, 8-10 days would definitely be on the long end of the range. How long depends on your ability to pay, your ability to get away from work, kids, etc, and how much of your vaca time you want to spend in one place. A few years ago, there was a guy that spent 90-120 days at TTR at a time, and seemed to enjoy every one.

We will be back for our third trip in a couple of weeks. We have kids, so our first two trips were 6 nights. Upcoming one is 7. The first trip it never got old. On previous trips to Mexico to regular resorts, 24 were big on getting off resort and doing excusrsions to various places. We had planned to do the same our first trip but LOL! Aside from the boobs cruise, we only left the resort once because the rest of the time we couldn't drag ourselves from the sexy pool. Our second trip we agreed at the end that we wished we'd gotten away a little more, if nothing else just to sober up for a day. We still even haven't made as far as Isla Mujeres, but that's on our list this trip! Have fun! You guys will have a blast.

The first trip in 2015 we stayed 10 days and the second trip in 2016 we stayed 8 days. The 10 days seemed perfect and we were looking to get back home. Only staying 8 days it seemed like we didn't get enough and maybe missed out on something. I try to book the trips around the days with the cheapest airfares so arriving on Saturday and returning home mid week seemed to work out the best for us and turns out to be 10 day stays.

First trip January 2016 = 7 days. Heard they were closing for renovations, so booked again for June 2016 = 8 days.

We are now currently at TTR for 11 days.

Always factor in losing each day of travel time ! And remember, time flies when you're having fun.

The 8 day trip was about the same price as the 7 day. And incidentally this 11 day trip is the same price as the others.

Always check airfare and different travel websites.

    We've done 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

7 is perfect for us. 10 was too long. By that 7th night, we are usually both in the going home mode. :)

Isla is a fun day trip, especially if you go with other couples, rent the carts and hit all of the beach bars.

Cozumel is another great location to visit, though it would be about 2 hours of travel between the drive to Playa Del Carmen and the ferry to Cozumel.

We've determined that 9 days is perfect for us. By the 9th day when we are getting ready to leave, we're ready to get back home and see the kids. Now of course once they're out of the house, we might be saying 9 isn't long enough.

Everyone price point, and availability to get away is different. We have an extremely special needs 22 year old at home, an active high school boy, and we both work, so 5 days works for us.

Thanks for all of the input! I know this is a very subjective question.

I think we are looking at 8-10 hours of travel time (best case scenario) since there are no direct flights out of PDX, so we definitely want to make the most out of the time in between. This will be our first all inclusive vacation and we want to get the most out of it without overdoing it. Trying to gauge it off of our Vegas trips (6-7 days feels about right) and assuming this will be a bit more relaxing; although reading through some of these threads, I might be completely wrong about that lol.

4 days or 10 days, you'll have a great time and meet some awesome people! We like Vegas too, but theres really no comparison to TTR. Its a pretty unique place.

We did 7 nights a few times. Sometimes it feels short especially when you have to leave before your friends. One year we did 14 nights and both of us felt it was too long. As we started doing the same theme nights over again but now all of our group as already left and felt the vibe change during the 2nd week. We got bored and started during more excursions outside resort. I think between 7 and 10 nights is perfect

Been there 8 times of various duration and found that 9 nights works just about right.

Since it's your first time and you have 8-10 days to play with, perhaps you might want to split the trip between 2 resorts, maybe 3-4 nights relaxing and getting pampered at one of the Hyatt's all inclusives, then take a 5 minute cab ride to Temptation for 5-6 nights of hard core partying. We love Temptation but don't enjoy relaxing and/or not drinking at Temptation as much as we have at other all-inclusives. The Hyatt's in Cancun for example have better relaxing areas and beaches, plus there is not "temptation" to party on your recovery day. To us, Temptation is a world class hard core party, with super friendly people, where we can't help but drink like maniacs, and we wear out our livers somewhere around night 5 lol...
